1. I’m moving…tomorrow? I don’t know. All I know is that half of my worldly belongings are in my new house and the other half (pastry tips, broken chocolate bars and Dexter) are scattered all over my old apartment floor.
If you don’t hear back from me, it means I didn’t survive the dusty year old broken chocolate bar. Send help. Or fresh chocolate.
2. While cleaning out my kitchen drawer, I found three rock hard green gummi bears, about 300 nails and tattered work-out cards. Clearly I don’t open that drawer much.
3. Cinnamon frosting is everywhere…and that’s how I like it.
4. I’m currently plowing through season one of Grey’s Anatomy. I like to be fashionably late to the party.
5. Today is National Pancake Day! I’m making these for lunch to celebrate since in my cleaning endeavors I found an old can of pumpkin. That stuff doesn’t go bad, right? Ok good.
6. Thanks to all of you, I just made a dentist appointment to get drilled on tomorrow morning at 10:30.
7. Adam surprised me with this new book! I can’t wait to start it! He knows me so well.
8. I’m trading having a garbage disposal for having a huge wood burning fireplace in my new kitchen. I told Adam it was the logical decision because then I could make corn pone for breakfast. Don’t know what pone is? Read this.
9. Tonight we are seeing JJ Grey! I don’t know who JJ Grey is, but will report back.
10. I’m going to Austin in two weeks! If any Texas friends want to meet up for coffee or tea (or Rudy’s barbecue), let me know!

Moving is a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end! Good luck!
Moving is exhausting. I hope your new place is great for you! Is it close(r) to Adam?…and Farmer’s Markets?
…I would have ate the Gummi Bears.
Sometimes it is great to show up late to TV shows, then you can watch multiple seasons all at once!
You will love JJ Grey, his song Mississippi is one of my favorites !!
Those cherries look delicious!!
Good luck with your move!!
Good luck on your move!! YAY for Pancake day
Moving…hang in there Jenna!
I have moved…like 10 times in 10 years. Finally though, I am STAYING put!! Some of my moves have been across the country, some have been across town, but thankfully, I love my place, love San Diego, and don’t want to move. Moving…is not fun.
The fact that cinny frosting is everywhere. Not the worst problem to have
Moving is so much work! You seem to do it often too! That gives me a headache to think about. Hope you like your new place and are able to stay put for awhile!
Now I want pancakes.
Yay Austin! It’s going to be crazy here because of SXSW, but I hope you have fun!
How sad is it that I live here, yet I haven’t had Rudy’s in over a year?!
Ah! I’m so sad I’ll be missing your visit! I’m going up this weekend and then heading to NYC for the following weekend! You have to come back again!
SXSW will be killer this year…..crazy good bands:)
WOOT!! Austin!
Hey Jenna!! I am going to Austin in a few months, and I NEEEEED to know where to get the best tacos…..so please report back!! This is VITAL!!
I’m not Jenna, but I do live in Austin and I would go ahead and say Torchy’s Tacos!!!!
I agree, I’m a native Austinite and have been here for over 20 years — Torchy’s is best in town. I also love Taco Shack for breakfast tacos. Wahoo’s Fish Tacos is all right but a bit overrated in my opinion. Juan in a Million is great for breakfast tacos too =)
mmmmmmm…..thanks MUCHO!!!
oh moving – there is nothing fun about that! I’ve done more moving in the last 8 years than I care to remember. Yay for a return to Austin! Please keep me in the loop!
Good luck moving! I look at moving as an opportunity to get reorganized, but then again, this is coming from the girl who goes home for breaks to clean closets for fun
Just don’t forget to take a break while moving… to watch some Grey’s
are you coming for SXSW? It is gonna be crazy!
I recommend Franklin BBQ- delicious bbq in a trailer off the interstate.
JJ Grey is great, and one of his most famous songs is about FOOD! Good luck with the rest of the move
good luck with moving! sounds like it’ll be rewarding
that’s an awesome surprise that book! i’ve been wanting to read it too. AND i’ll be in houston in 2 weeks! wish austin was closer or else i’d love to meet up. rodeo watching and jason aldean jamming calls me though.
i should have been born in the south. you seem to have so many fond memories.
I saw JJ Grey & Mofro in concert last year and they were great! Have a fun time
Good luck on the move! And YAY for Grey’s!!! Love that it’s all on Netflix. I’m catching up too and am on the 3rd season. It gets so good!!
Grey’s Anatomy will suck you in and never let you go. Even when the plot lines get reallllll cheesy and all your favorite characters leave or die, you will find yourself in front of the t.v. or computer with ginger snap cookies … crying, thinking how Patrick Dempsey is just so darn cute or looking over your shoulder and finding your boyfriend shaking his head at you. But in the end, it was worth it. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Which weekend??? I will be in Austin the weekend of the 19th.
Yes Austin!!! What are the dates? (I’m assuming you’re coming for SXSW’s last weekend?… as that’s in a couple weeks)
A new house?? How exciting! Wait, a house or apartment? Good luck with the move – at least you have a car. I had to move in Boston without one and it was horrible. Can’t wait to see the new place!
love love love that pic of the cherries. they look so good! not in austin but if you’re ever in dallas…
You’re coming to Austin!? OMG YAY!
Good luck with the move! Def not on my top ten ‘things I love doing list’, but sometimes it needs to be done. If I had to pick wood burning oven in kitchen or a garbage disposal… I would not choose the latter.
I bought a cherry pitter last summer bc I just couldn’t pit a whole Costco sized package of them again. I still have some in my freezer ! I’m hoarding them until I see the first ripe batch appear at Costco again.
I’ve never seen Grey’s ! I live in a closet
We can talk Grey’s any time. I’ve seen every episode at least twice. Just to let you know, the end of season 2 is like an emotional roller coaster that sucks you in and never really spits you it.
well great. Now I’m going to have to get through an entire season and a half tonight so I know what you’re talking about. Thanks, Evan.
I’ve always wanted to make corn pone
I loved getting to meet you last summer, and I’d love to get to say hi again. Yours was the first blog I ever read and opened my eyes to so many things.Thank you for your writing, you showed me that my passion for food wasn’t crazy!
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet up in Austin when you are here!!!!!!! Just send me the details
Rudy’s BBQ is good, but if you’re going to be in Austin, you should make the short drive to Driftwood for Salt Lick BBQ!!! Especially because the Salt Lick in Driftwood is the original, and OH SO GOOD!!
Too funny that I saw this post AFTER I recommended that you go to Salt Lick BBQ, lol. Seriously, this place is fantastic (Texas native here).
Good luck on the move!
Good luck with the move! Can’t wait to hear the details!
I would love to meet up when you come to Austin!
ohhhhh I wish I could see it all again with fresh eyes – I swear, the end of season three made my heart actually STOP the first time I saw it. brace yourself!
& it sounds like I’m alone in this, but I kind of love moving. even if it’s awful, a woodstove is definitely worth it.
If I still lived in Austin I might try to hustle you to Salt Lick too…
Good luck on the move! A whole house sounds like a congrats is in order
I recently started watching Grey’s Anatomy too. I’m about midway through season 3…wow! Why did I not know how awesome this show is sooner??
So excited you’re coming to Austin again! Loved meeting you on your last visit – would love to catch up again
Everyone’s going to Austin! I’m at a conference in Austin this weekend, and I keep hearing from friends and colleagues who are talking about various trips they have to Austin within the next month. I’d never been until I got here Sunday, but really enjoy it (and the 82-degree weather — it’s been a snowy winter!).
Are you moving in with Adam yet???
I feel like the first season is the best season!
And I’m jealous of your future trip to Texas — I’ll always be a Texan at heart!
That’s a pretty loaded, but exciting list! I suggest lots of cinnamon buttercream to ensure you don’t get injured while moving (no sprains this time!).
OMG National Pancake Day!! Thanks for the reminder! And good luck moving tomorrow
Oh Austin BBQ…….and tex mex…….and mexican martinis………how I miss thee….so jealous!
Those cherries & pancakes look delish! Am off to pick up ‘Pictures of You’ will add ‘Paris Wife.’ My son called & thankfully is back home in Amsterdam safe after skiing in the Voges, France. Was slightly concerned (OK, silently obsessing in my nail-biting neurotic Mom no, I don’t need a big glass of wine, thank you, style) aft Adam’s ski mishap. Hope all is much better. Dexter’s favorite song must be ‘On the Road Again.’ He looks like could be a Willie Nelson fan
Definitely want to meet up while you are in Austin! I mean I already met Adam at the UT/A&M football game on Thanksgiving it seems only fitting that I should meet you too!!
Please share some photo’s of your new home!
What dates? I’ll be in town for SXSW!
Good luck on the move, & I hope you post pics of your fab new place =]
Rudy’s YUM! I had no idea it was national pancake day. Pancakes are my 3rd favorite cakey treat, I should get on that.
Are you heading to Austin for SXSW? I live here, so I’ll be here. Hopefully I can check out some free shows throughout the week. Let me know if you need any advice on things to do/restaurants to try.
Instead of Rudy’s (which is just ‘eh’), try Salt Lick BBQ. Trust me. Just do it.
I’d love to meet up! Hopefully you’ll be there on a weekend?
I heart Grey’s, too…but started hating it after a major event on that show. Can’t give too many details cuz I’ll spill the beans:)
So many exciting things going on!! Congrats on the move. Hopefully it goes smoothly as possible
Good luck moving. I’m moving this weekend too (but luckily just to a different apartment in our complex) so I can sympathize!
I’m in Austin too . . . though I am NOT looking forward to SXSW because I hate crowds, ha! Jenna, I actually met you briefly a few years ago in Chicago, when I was in college there. It would be fun to attend another meetup!
Good luck with your move! I can’t wait to see pictures of the new place if you choose to post them!
That.pumpkin.thing.looks.amazing!
Season one of Grey’s was probably my favorite season! It was so good back then. Those pancakes look delightful.
Good luck moving!
A wood burning fireplace in your kitchen? Wow! Good luck with the rest of your move!
Made buttermilk chocolate cupcakes with vanilla bean buttercream and rainbow sprinkles. It’s the boss’s birthday this week. Pretty sure I’m gonna score some major bonus points with those puppies! Vanilla beans = most worthwhile expense, I think. And I felt really badass using them like the pros on TV. The buttercream is amazing, tastes like vanilla bean ice cream only in frosting form!
I also went all out and invested in pastry bags so I could properly pipe my icing onto the cupcakes. Far too fun.
Pretty sure your blog is my current go-to for all recipes. Love it!
Oohhh – JJ Grey & Mofro is really good. My dad saw him in concert a couple years back and got all his CD’s. Good music!
And welcome to Grey’s Anatomy!!!! I’m a huge fan. =]
yea I would for sure suggest salt lick or franklins over rudy’s!
That’s awesome your moving, good luck! I hope everything goes smoothly!
And yay for Austin! I’d love to head out there for a little meet up or something, let me know!
A new home! How nice! Change is good. Moving is stressssful! Be sure to post pics of the new place for us, I’d love to see the fireplace.
I was obsessed with Laura Ingalls Wilder as a child. So much in fact, that my best friend from elementary school and I did a social studies fair project about her AND my family and I stopped at her home on a summer vacation. Have you been to her house? She was a tiny woman so the kitchen is customized to be smaller for her. They also had cornhusk dolls and shingles from the original house for sale, which I’m fairly certain I begged my Dad to buy one of despite it being such a ridiculous souvenir.
Anyways, I’m glad your love of LIW reminded me of mine! Good luck moving!
A wood-burning stove in your kitchen? Please do a house tour when you’re done moving in. This place seems awesome!
Excuse me as I go pull out the entire Little House on the Prairie collection (we’re talking Laura, her mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, AND daughter). I may not resurface for a couple of days.
how was jj grey? did you LOVE it? I have seen him at Skipper’s in Tampa-and it was the greatest! what did you think?
he was AWESOME! Totally blew me away!
I’ve read your blog for months, but have only left a few comments. Not enough to become friends unfortunately! But I love your blog and know we’d be good foodie friends, plus I live in Austin!!! I would love to meet up for food and drinks! Please email me!
Morgan
hi!! I’ll make a bigger austin meet-up announcement when I know more information probably next week so look out for that!
I agree with all the previous comments about skipping Rudy’s when you’re in Austin, but I would suggest that you head over to Elgin for some Meyer’s BBQ. My husband grew up around Austin and he says it’s fantastic!
Good luck moving! Moving into a new place is so exciting
Also-I just started Season 1 of Gray’s Anatomy too! I wanted to see what all the fuss was about
Good luck moving, Jenna. Can’t wait to hear all about it! xo
Rudy’s is good, but Salt Lick is better. Franklin’s BBQ is also delicious but there’s always a line and they usually run out before you make it to the end of the line… however, that’s part of the experience and can be enjoyable. I’d also suggest County Line if you want to avoid a drive out to Driftwood, because it’s pretty much fantastic and there are two locations much closer to central Austin.
Please put me on the list for Austin Meetup details!!
Wonderful to read you are heading to Austin soon! I am now living back home in San Antonio (moved back from France in December). I would love to meet you while you are in the Lone Star state
Let me know when you are free!
Jenna, I’m wondering if you started reading The Paris Wife? I just finished it and I’m curious about your thoughts if you’ve read it yet. I LOVED it!!
Have you tried to freeze these? My kids are drooling at the thought of having homemade oatmeal cream pies in their lunch boxes
