Behind The Butter

10 things

1. I’m moving…tomorrow? I don’t know. All I know is that half of my worldly belongings are in my new house and the other half (pastry tips, broken chocolate bars and Dexter) are scattered all over my old apartment floor.

If you don’t hear back from me, it means I didn’t survive the dusty year old broken chocolate bar. Send help. Or fresh chocolate.

2. While cleaning out my kitchen drawer, I found three rock hard green gummi bears, about 300 nails and tattered work-out cards. Clearly I don’t open that drawer much.

3. Cinnamon frosting is everywhere…and that’s how I like it.

4. I’m currently plowing through season one of Grey’s Anatomy. I like to be fashionably late to the party.

5. Today is National Pancake Day! I’m making these for lunch to celebrate since in my cleaning endeavors I found an old can of pumpkin. That stuff doesn’t go bad, right? Ok good.

6. Thanks to all of you, I just made a dentist appointment to get drilled on tomorrow morning at 10:30.

7. Adam surprised me with this new book! I can’t wait to start it! He knows me so well.

8. I’m trading having a garbage disposal for having a huge wood burning fireplace in my new kitchen. I told Adam it was the logical decision because then I could make corn pone for breakfast. Don’t know what pone is? Read this.

9. Tonight we are seeing JJ Grey! I don’t know who JJ Grey is, but will report back.

10. I’m going to Austin in two weeks! If any Texas friends want to meet up for coffee or tea (or Rudy’s barbecue), let me know!

    Moving…hang in there Jenna!

I have moved…like 10 times in 10 years. Finally though, I am STAYING put!! Some of my moves have been across the country, some have been across town, but thankfully, I love my place, love San Diego, and don’t want to move. Moving…is not fun.

The fact that cinny frosting is everywhere. Not the worst problem to have 🙂

I agree, I’m a native Austinite and have been here for over 20 years — Torchy’s is best in town. I also love Taco Shack for breakfast tacos. Wahoo’s Fish Tacos is all right but a bit overrated in my opinion. Juan in a Million is great for breakfast tacos too =)

Grey’s Anatomy will suck you in and never let you go. Even when the plot lines get reallllll cheesy and all your favorite characters leave or die, you will find yourself in front of the t.v. or computer with ginger snap cookies … crying, thinking how Patrick Dempsey is just so darn cute or looking over your shoulder and finding your boyfriend shaking his head at you. But in the end, it was worth it. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Good luck with the move! Def not on my top ten ‘things I love doing list’, but sometimes it needs to be done. If I had to pick wood burning oven in kitchen or a garbage disposal… I would not choose the latter.

I bought a cherry pitter last summer bc I just couldn’t pit a whole Costco sized package of them again. I still have some in my freezer ! I’m hoarding them until I see the first ripe batch appear at Costco again.

    I’ve never seen Grey’s ! I live in a closet 😉

Made buttermilk chocolate cupcakes with vanilla bean buttercream and rainbow sprinkles. It’s the boss’s birthday this week. Pretty sure I’m gonna score some major bonus points with those puppies! Vanilla beans = most worthwhile expense, I think. And I felt really badass using them like the pros on TV. The buttercream is amazing, tastes like vanilla bean ice cream only in frosting form!

I also went all out and invested in pastry bags so I could properly pipe my icing onto the cupcakes. Far too fun.

Pretty sure your blog is my current go-to for all recipes. Love it!

I was obsessed with Laura Ingalls Wilder as a child. So much in fact, that my best friend from elementary school and I did a social studies fair project about her AND my family and I stopped at her home on a summer vacation. Have you been to her house? She was a tiny woman so the kitchen is customized to be smaller for her. They also had cornhusk dolls and shingles from the original house for sale, which I’m fairly certain I begged my Dad to buy one of despite it being such a ridiculous souvenir.

Anyways, I’m glad your love of LIW reminded me of mine! Good luck moving!

Rudy’s is good, but Salt Lick is better. Franklin’s BBQ is also delicious but there’s always a line and they usually run out before you make it to the end of the line… however, that’s part of the experience and can be enjoyable. I’d also suggest County Line if you want to avoid a drive out to Driftwood, because it’s pretty much fantastic and there are two locations much closer to central Austin.
