Baby

40 Weeks

Well, here we are at 40 weeks and I’m still pregnant!

I’m honestly not too terribly surprised since everyone tells me that first babies are usually a week or so late. I had a really great midwife appointment the other day and it seemed like I was making really good progress — I’ve also been having countless braxton hicks contractions but nothing I would say is “painful” quite yet. More just like someone is tightening a belt around my middle. Uncomfortable but not painful. My mom arrived the other night so it’s been nice to just relax with her here. She’s been spoiling Adam and I with amazing cooking and cleaning!

We aren’t talking about induction yet. They usually give you until 41.5 or 42 weeks here. I’m hoping baby beaugh decides to greet the world before that! Today I am going in for some more acupuncture to help speed things up {I’ve been going every week for the past five months} and seeing my chiropractor for what’s hopefully the last time until after he’s born.

Thanks everyone for the good vibes! We had a great Mother’s Day yesterday with my mom here. We went to the farmer’s market in the morning and Adam totally surprised me with two huge bouquets of flowers {one from him, one from baby}, three adorably sweet cards and a pair of navy blue Tieks {from both him and baby}. I’ve been dying to get a pair of these shoes so needless to say, I was reallyyyyyy excited. Not going to lie, I was really hoping for a Mother’s Day baby so initially when I woke up yesterday feeling fine I felt a bit bummed, but he totally made my day!

As my doula would say, “babies come when they’re ready….”

Our bags are packed and by the door, we’ve preregistered at the hospital and I finished the gifts I had planned to make the labor & delivery nurses and hospital midwifes {homemade jam…of course!}. Hopefully my next update will be announcing baby boy’s birthday!

I was going on 43 weeks and set for induction but it was pushed back due to staff shortage….baby came 12hrs before second induction date at 13 days late. Good luck to you! All that matters is that baby makes it safe.

You look lovely! Although the birth was difficult because of his size, things have been so much easier with my son (he came at 41 weeks). I still can’t get over what a difference that extra week made between him and his older sister (born at 39). He nursed better, held his head up much more steadily, started making eye contact and smiling sooner, doesn’t startle as easily, etc. I hope the next one will be a pound lighter though. 😉

There is a famous place in Atlanta that is notorious for their eggplant Parmesan…It is supposed to help women go into labor! They even have a whole page full of their “eggplant babies”. They have their magic recipe online…if you like eggplant, you could always give it a try!! http://www.scalinis.com/main-babies.html

Hang in there, Jenna! How wonderful that your mom is there now. Sounds like everything is all set. Are you having any cramping with your BH contractions? Walking is getting harder over here. I’m due the 20th, and it’s really hard to know what to do with myself sometimes. Wishing you guys all the best!

Just a word of encouragement for you, three of my four babies were late, one went 10 days over! Just remember that God is giving you some precious extra time to pray and prepare for this high and holy calling of motherhood. I will forever remember those final quiet moments I spent in my baby girl’s nursery praying and singing and sloooooowly 😉 welcoming her into our lives. May God give you great JOY in the days, weeks, and years to come. May your son grow strong in the Lord and may you and Adam love him in a way that brings honor to Christ. God bless you and your family Jenna!

I went to the chiropractor when I was 40 weeks and 5 days pregnant, the next morning I woke up and was in very early labor. I went to work because I was worried it was a false alarm, and my baby girl was born the next day at exactly 41 weeks! I fully believe visiting the chiropractor helped get the ball rolling. I have to say that I am so thankful that she was a fully baked baby. She was so healthy and perfect, and our breastfeeding relationship has been wonderful She just turned 10 months and is still an enthusiastic nurser. My advice is to rest/sleep lots now 🙂 Good luck mama, you will be amazing!

My daughter arrived right on her due date, some 18 hours after my mom flew in. So sweet of her. It was in December, and I took packages of homemade holiday cookies. The medical staff loved them. I was surprised how many friends never thought to bring anything for them when they delivered. The entire team were all wonderful but I do think it helped the late night crew that delivered my baby stay there with me for those extra pushes!

I am so excited for you! Just 3 weeks ago I was out having lunch with my mom and brother while I waited for my little boy’s arrival. They do come out eventually although the wait can feel like an eternity. Savor every moment and while visitors are nice I was so happy to have time alone in the hospital to just soak up the first moments with him.

You are going to be a wonderful mom! Enjoy!

Hitting your due date and still having to wait to hold your baby can be really tough! While expecting my youngest son who is now a healthy, full of life 7 year old boy, I was induced twice before he decided to bless us. The first time, I was on pitocin for a full 24 hours, never having one contraction. I left the hospital in tears because I was so over being pregnant. Thankfully, the second time around, a full week later, he was ready to come into this world. Blessings to you, your husband and especially your baby boy!

So, I’m planning my girl’s 1st birthday and it turned out the cupcake recipe I’m using is one you created, which got me to thinking, “I haven’t read her blog in awhile!” Wow girl – you’ve been up to a lot! My girl’s EDD was May 11 last year, but she waited until May 20 to make her arrival. I joked she didn’t want to share Mother’s Day or Memorial Day ever cause she split the difference. Excited for you to start this new chapter – motherhood is beautiful (and enlightening, and challenging and the best thing you’ll ever do). 🙂
