Lunch

A Big No-No

Okay. Every girl on the planet should know that there is a time to bathing suit shop and a time not to bathing suit shop. I don’t care how thin you might be! Today was not my day. At all. Hormonal/bloated people should just stay out of the mall entirely I’ve decided. So that being said, I didn’t last long at the mall today. haha. I tried on a sale bathing suit at jcrew, was not happy at all about the results, and ran out and came home. Its not that I think I’m fat. I know I’m not fat…but being bloated is enough to ruin anyone’s self esteem for the day.

At least my headache is gone. I think its the espresso that really did the trick. Caffeine usually helps a lot. I had a lighter lunch because its terribly hot and muggy outside and I’m always a little “blah” after taking a migraine pill. I made another tomato salad using the dressing I made last night (see below) without cheese and I had a small piece of bread on the side as well as a yogurt and cherries.

I think I will stay to safe shopping places such as Barnes and Noble today where I can sit and read cookbooks tucked away and sip on tea. I’m planning on exercising later on, probably just some light cardio at the gym.

Edited to add: I’m going out to Cafe Tu Tu Tango tonight for dinner with Chef Erin and her husband. What sounds good to you?

Glad to hear that even girls with perfect bodies (we have seen pictures of you in a bathing suit) have these days. I’m sure you looked great, it was just “one of those days”. 🙂

Know what’s the worst thing about bathing suit shopping? THE LIGHTING IN THOSE STORES!!! As if I didn’t feel bad enough, seeing my skin all blotchy and pale is NOT cute. 🙁

Interesting comment Kelly L. “perfect body”? Jenna you are in great shape and look fantastic, but i am a little sad to see someone use a phrase like perfect body on a food blog. Aren’t these all about being happy with how you look and being at a comfortable weight, not comparing your body to others? It’s hard to not compare your body to someone else’s when it is described as perfect. I usually enjoy food blogs more then magazines because you avoid this kind of thinking, so it just makes me a bit dissapointed to see it here.

Not trying to start a contraversy, just voicing my opinion.

oooh, definitely hit up Barnes & Noble today… one of my favorite things to do is spending hours there sipping a fun beverage and reading.

and I totally agree about the bathing suit shopping – sometimes it’s just not the day! but you do such a great job of eating well and working out I’m sure you’ll feel fantastic shopping for one soon 🙂

I think the term “perfect body” was just lightly thrown around. we all know that the only one with a perfect body is jessica simpson, not me. (haha just kidding!) Everyone has flaws, no one is perfect of course!

    I have NO boobs. Sigh.

Bathing suit shopping is a horror task as is. But on a bloated day? I don’t even want to think about it.

i can’t help with main dish suggestions–i would definitely get something non-vegetarian ; ) but the roasted pear on pecan crisp for a started sounds DELICIOUS!

I don’t know any woman who really likes bathing suit shopping, no matter what her size. Feeling bloated certainly doesn’t help =/

Regarding dinner, I think the sun-dried tomato pizza sounds really good. (Personally, I would probably skip the mozzarella – not a huge fan – but keep the goat cheese. I LOVE goat cheese on pizza!)

PS – And I have no boobs either. It’s sort of a blessing and a curse, right?

I’m sorry to hear the bathing suit shopping didn’t go well…i had the same experience today at aeropostale…i SWEAR it’s the lighting that tricks your eyes. ARG.

But, I’ve been to Cafee Tu Tu Tango, but out here on the west coast, in CA. So I don’t know how different the menu will be. When I went though, the party I was with ordered a bunch of things and everyone ate everyone’s stuff, which I think is the best way to do it. This is what I had:

    Mediterranean Spinach Dip
    Roasted Pears on Pecan Strips
    Grilled Vegetable Pizza
    Sun Dried Tomato Pizza
Molten Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream

    Enjoy your dinner!

I love Cafe Tu Tu! My personal faves are the thin-crust sun-dried tomato pizza, and the stuffed mushrooms (sans blue cheese.) And the Spanish Rioja wine, of course 🙂

Jenna, so sorry you aren’t feeling your best. Bloated days suck. And here is what is so funny about bathing suit shopping- you don’t like not having an ample chest, and I absolutely hate it! Every day I wish mine were smaller so I could wear cuter bathing suits! “Perfect” bodies just don’t exist- that is why I am so grateful for you and everyone else that is a part of this community- we just do our best to honor our bodies, feed them nourishing food, and love the skin we’re in. Thanks, Jenna, and everyone else!

I know what you mean about the bathing suit shopping horrors! There are stores I refuse to try swimsuits on in just because I know the lighting is horrible and I feel awful about myself every time. Being bloated is even worse! I totally feel your pain.

The menu looks great! You should do the fresh veggie pizza (seeing how you love pizza so much!) and a big glass of red wine! That’s what I’d pick, anyway. Hehe.

    Little Black Dress:
That was a very well said statement. I love your perspective.

Darn- Sorry you feel that way. It was meant to be used lightly. I do think Jenna has (in my opinion) a perfect body. She is fit, toned, thin, and healthy looking. To me, that is what a perfect body LOOKS like. Do I look like that? Absolutley not, but I’m also know that I’ll never look like that. For that reason I don’t compare myself to other people. Each person has their own views of what perfect looks like and perfect feels like. We all have our own favorite body parts and parts we dislike (love my calves, hate my butt and no boobs) What difference does it make that I made that comment anyways? It was a compliment to Jenna, because, this after all, her blog.

Bathing suit shopping is the *worst*! But if you were at the J.Crew at Millenia, we might have passed accidentally!!
My Mom’s birthday was yesterday, so today I took her on a shopping spree at J.Crew, Gap, Williams Sonoma and Anthro–with a few other stops for me!

I’ve driven past Cafe Tu Tu a few times, but I’ve never been. Have fun, though!

Jenna I love this post! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one whose bloatedness makes shopping worse and that I am not just imagining it! Thanks for sharing with us, it helps remind me that everyone has their days. I hope you feel better and I have to tell my mom about that yoga website. I signed up for my first yoga class with her once a week so hopefully I’ll like it!

Haha thanks everyone for all the positive, uplifting comments. It’s funny that yall think sometimes YOU are the only one that gets bloated and feel like the world is ending because I feel the same way and sometimes just can’t even be around anyone but myself on days like that. So never fret–you are definitely not alone!

And I spent just as much as I would have on the bathing suit when I bought a new coffee table hardcover book on all the gourmet food shops in Paris today at Barnes and Noble……..haha it fit better than the suit 😉
