A Couple Nice Treats

Well, little Dex made it through his first vet visit! The shot didn’t even make him wince….but the thermometer up his bum really made the little guy squirm. Regardless, he made it through and many a cat treat later he is now under the bed while Ryan and his friend watch the Draft in the other room and I am about to shower and get ready for the wedding!

After the vet, we brought Dex over to my parent’s house so I could search my old closet and find a dress to wear tonight and so my mom could see Dex. I have to say, Dexter and Mikan get along better than I would have imagined. Of course, Mikan just wants to play and Dexter hides under a chair….but at least they aren’t killing eachother! It’s sort of cute actually ๐Ÿ™‚

I got my favorite wrap in the whole world for a treat today. Hummus, quinoa tabbouli and kale salad on a sprouted wheat wrap of course! I ate every single one of the delicious veggie chips that it was served with and as a result felt a little bloated afterwards but it was def. worth it. The real treat of the day, however, was the bookstore trip with my mom! I picked up two new books: “Souvenir” by Therese Fowler and “Unaccustomed Earth” by one of my favorite authors, Jhumpa Lahiri. I also got Vegan with a Vengeance!! I sort of had to beg my mom for this because I do have sooo many cookbooks….but I tried to convince her it was an early birthday present (my birthday is in early june, haha) and she relented. I can’t wait to start cooking out of this! I just want to go lay out by the pool now and read the whole thing cover to cover. I’ve heard great things about it.

Because I didn’t get my morning run in, I just hit the gym upstairs for a quick 20 minute cardio session. I also got a 15 minute walk in earlier today as well. I’m a true believer that walking is exercise and if Americans did more of it, obesity wouldn’t be such a problem. I could rant on that all day long— I’ll spare you! Anyways, after the gym I made an apple with almond butter for a filling snack because who knows when and what dinner will be tonight. I’m bringing a larabar AND a probar (never tried this before) in my purse “just in case”. I will bring my camera with me though and report back in the morning!

So glad that Dexter made it through his first vet visit!!

Oooh, โ€œSouvenir,โ€ โ€œUnaccustomed Earth,โ€ and “Vegan with a Vengeance” – talk about a great book haul! “Vegan with a Vengeance” was my very first vegan cookbook – ahh, memories :0)

I couldn’t agree with you more – walking is FABULOUS, easy exercise!! I always walk when I’m on the phone; and depending on who I’m talking to, I can easily go for a 30-60 minute walk, while on the phone! :0)

    Have fun tonight!!

oo wedding pics are the best!!

I live in nyc, so I’m a big believer in walking as exercise (& helping the environment)!
Actually, walking is one of the most fun parts about Europe (and it helps rev up your appetite)!

Two things. First, I agree with ibex, Namesake and Interpreter of Maladies are the most amazing books! I have given my copies to everyone and forced them to read, no matter how busy they were!

Also, how is the Kale cooked in the wrap? I would love to try it out.

I absolutely love walking (and running!) It is such a great and easy way to get additional exercise. I always feel so refreshed after a nice long walk.

Jenna, so glad Dex monster made it through his first vet visit. I remember how traumatized my golden used to be after vet visits with the thermo-up-the-butt routine – poor babies! I always felt so bad because as animals they don’t understand what is going on, but I just reminded myself that it was all part of keeping her healthy.

Can’t wait to hear all about the wedding! Have fun tonight! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Jenna,

I also loved Namesake ande Interpreter of Maladies- ive read them both over and over and I especially like Interpreter of Maladies. I’m so excited that she decided to do another short story collection- it seems like a lot of authors don’t do that once they’ve hit it big with a novel. Please tell us how her new book is! I’m dying to read it, but even on sale it’s $25 at my local bookstore….too expensive for me. …i think. ๐Ÿ™‚ Let us know if you like it!

i agree with you on walking… when i went to ecuador in january for a service trip i didn’t work out at all and ate soooo many burritos, but because the people walk around the town center i got in so much exercise, and ended up losing weight. i loved walking and enjoying the nature ๐Ÿ™‚ wedding pictures are a must!!

Your wrap looks fab! Sounds like you ARE a vegan after all. If you are eating that way, which it seems like you are, just say so. I have not seen you eat any animal products in a long time, so it makes me wonder why you have not just come out and said that you are now a vegan. Us carnivores won’t be upset =) Just let us get ideas from you and rave about your favorite vegan meals, and I am sure you will convert at least some of our meals to be vegan.

    Have fun in the wedding!
Of course walking is a sport, and it’s recommended for older people or for very overweight people! I know people who walk for a couple of hours every day just to stay fit.
It’s not the first time you show us that wrap, and it’s not the first time you leave me drooling!

Jenna- IS there any way you can delete a comment I made earlier? When you google my name it comes up and says some things i’d’ rather not anyone just be able to find- like about my weight and history w/food? Please let me know!

    Hi Jenna,

thanks for the endorsement of walking. I have a feeling my RD is going to tell me to cut out all fitness except walking until I gain some weight, and I need some reassurance that it is, indeed, keeping me healthy. Currently I am a fitness machine, what with running, kickboxing, weight-lifting, Pilates, all sorts of fun stuff. How much exercise do you recommend per day one gets?

totally agree about the walking thing….do we seize it as an excuse?
they way we kindasorta dont wanna believe it’s as simple as EAT LESS MOVE MORE?

    who can say ๐Ÿ™‚

    and I adore Jhumpa Lahiri.
cant wait to see yer review here (hint :))

Hey Jenna! I’d had those veggie chips once before and fell in love with them. Then, I couldn’t find them for ages! Yesterday my mom came to visit and took me to fresh market to grocery shop and they had them. Thanks goodness!!!

    Jill,

The kale is raw! It seems to be marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, probably some soy sauce and garlic? it really is amazing! And so healthy!

    TimeofButterflies,
I can only recommend what I myself do daily, which is 30 minutes. Really, I believe that is enough. I don’t think you should overdo anything and exercise is included in that. I think a 30 minute walk could be subbed for a 30 minute circuit at the gym if that is what you are feeling, as well. I have always been fit and in shape and have NEVER spent more than 45 minutes at the gym!!! Who has time for that?! You just have to learn to maximize your time!

    katieb,

haha that was cute ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not a vegan though because I enjoy honey and sometimes, seafood. I explained this more on this morning’s post discussion.
