A Dinner Forgotten

Ahh please don’t hate me!!!!! I just accidentally deleted the photo of my dinner and can’t get it back!! 🙁

For the record, it wasn’t a good dinner anyways. Which lead me to bake cookies. More on that later.

About dinner!! I had this block of tempeh in the fridge so I tried out this recipe for a marinade. I let the tempeh sit in the marinade for about 3 hours but when I went to sear it, it bombed. It didn’t get crispy like I thought it would and I couldn’t taste the marinade AT ALL, which made me sad because I love all the garlicy, mapley, spicy flavors in it! The tempeh sort of just tasted like……..nothing at all. I also had couscous, which was okay and the highlight of my meal were the mound of sugar snap peas I had alongside the tempeh and couscous.

Not too terribly exciting, I’m still sorry about the accidental delete though! To make it up to you (or rather to make it up to my belly which was not satisfied at all after said dinner), I baked Dreena’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookies from Eat, Drink and Be Vegan. I subbed chocolate chips for raisins though, obvi. Now THEY came out good!

Today I snacked on a deliciously cold and wonderful strawberry juice bar and then later, a vanilla chobani.

I know, I KNOW that dairy is not good when you have a sore throat. I knew that when I was thoroughly enjoying the cold creaminess of my yogurt. Oh well. Whats a little more mucus in my life?

This afternoon I did another yoga class via Yoga to the People. I did about 30 minutes of Class 5 when my laptop randomly stopped buffering and I was left with my right leg dangling in the air. I hate it when that happens!! I was determined though, so I clicked on Class 1 and started it midway so I could get another 30 minutes in and make my practice an entire hour. I did about 5-10 minutes of it though before stopping the class completely and going down to child’s pose. It got me thinking. So often we all (myself included!) get totally caught up in the rat race of things. Places to go, people to talk to, the feeling of sheer “I HAVE to do this”. I HAVE to go to the gym today, I HAVE to run 5 miles, I HAVE to eat no more than 2,000 calories. So, sometimes, when things get crazy we just need to breathe. What does it really matter in the grand scheme of life if we don’t make it to the gym? Or if we eat over our “allowed” caloric amount? NOTHING. The world will keep on going and we will keep on living. When I was down in child’s pose was I still practicing yoga? Absolutely. You don’t need to always feel the burn to reap the benefits. I think we all would benefit from listening to our bodies more rather than telling things to our bodies. Sometimes rest will produce a grander outcome than that extra push-up.

That was my deep thought for the day. Thank you very much.

My throat is actually feeling a TON better tonight as well, which makes me super happy because tomorrow night I have my very special blogger dinner at Seasons 52!!!!! 🙂 I went to the CVS minute clinic only to have them confirm my thoughts that it was, in fact, a virus.

I then went back to Whole Foods (it’s right next door to the drugstore…how could I not?) and got some popsicles, throat comfort tea (which is a-m-a-z-i-n-g) and some natural throat spray, which has dramatically reduced the pain and swelling. Poopy tonsils. I’m parked on the couch reading Pat Conroy for the umpteenth time and contemplating another cookie.

G’night!

It’s called “Organic Throat Coat” it’s caffeine free and contains licorice root, slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, wild cherry bark, fennel, cinnamon and orange peel. It really does coat your throat! It works better than any throat drop I’ve ever tried.

Oh I hope you feel better soon!

I just wanted to let you know that I have been experimenting with different “milks” lately and I tried vanilla Almond Breeze milk yesterday and I am so in love! It kind of reminded me of Hemp milk but way better. I thought you might want to give it a go. 🙂

I think the whole idea of milk not being good for a sore throat was actually disproved, Jenna! I read something about that in a magazine. I think it might have been either Shape or CookingLight…I can’t really remember.

But all the good bacteria in there will probably end up doing you more good then bad, so don’t feel bad about eating the yogurt! 😀

I love your deep thought Jenna! And what a great reminder- lately I’ve been working out and just ignoring that my body does need rest from time to time. I’m tired! Thanks for your blog!

I feel ya Jenna! I’ve been so overwhelmed the last couple of days b/c I just started law school and its midterms (eeks) so i forgoed my workout for the last two days to maximize my 6 hours of sleep and I don’t feel the least bit guilty…whats a few days a week of missed workouts in the big picture of life- absolutely nothing! haha! When I get older I won’t remember the times I worked out, the calories I consumed or the size of clothes I wore, I’ll remember all of the fun and wonderful things I have done and the great times I have shared with my friends and loved ones! I’m a sap! haha. Hope you feel better girl

I hope you continue to feel better! Thank you sssoooo much for the deep thought. I have been having some doubts today about that kind of stuff and your post really made me realize how ridiculous it is. It is nice to know I’m not the only one who goes crazy sometimes. Thanks again!!! 🙂

    Jenna,
Those deep thoughts rang so true to me today!!! Since I started training for the half-marathon I have really seen the benefits of rest and how important it is to listen to my body. I have obviously been hungrier as I work myself harder and as I continue to recover (it’s never over! argh!) from eating issues, it is so nice to realize that this is the ONE and ONLY body that I will have to carry me throughout life, possibly childbirth, into old age, etc. .. it’s important to show yourself some love and sympathy and forgiveness. No one’s perfect 🙂
Keep on trucking and feel better girl!!

I absolutely love your blog! In fact, yours and some similar ones have inspired me to start my own! Also, I was wondering where you find that Chobani Greek yogurt… I’ve looked for it at some of my local stores and can’t seem to find it. It seems to be such a hot product right now!

I’ve had the throat coat tea. I think it’s good even when your throat doesn’t hurt!
I am sooo looking forward to tomorrow- it was the only thing that kept me from having a nervous breakdown today! (It wasn’t a good day… My car broke down. On the bright side, I got a little exercise in walking home from the auto shop!)

(Alyssa, don’t worry… you are totally not the only one who goes crazy sometimes!! lol!!)
hope you feel better soon. Jenna.

so funny that you wrote about this today! i had planned a cardio workout followed by yoga, but when i stepped back and thought about it i decided all i really wanted to do was the yoga- so i focused on that instead of “oh, it’s thursday, i might be drinking tonight- better get some cardio in to counteract the beer.” and i felt so good afterward! i am all for just breathing sometimes!!
hope you’re feeling better soon. have fun at dinner tomorrow!

I have not had good luck with tempeh myself either. Although they make this vegan BLT here at a local store and they use faking bacon which is a tempeh bacon and it is to die for!! Just an idea.

BTW I too love that WF strawberry frozen bars. They are delicious!!

I wish yoga inspired me to deep thoughts. Sadly, it does not.

I do, however, thoroughly agree with substituting chocolate chips for raisins in cookies. And adding extra choc. chips as well. Why have cookies without chocolate!? That’s my deep thought for the day.

Dairy actually doesn’t affect your mucus membrane… So the bacteria from the yogurt will only do your body good! 🙂

And on that note (last comment, I swear! haha), whenever I get onto my mat, in my child’s pose, I always kiss my mat and thank it for being so safe, so familiar, and so HOME 🙂 May sound strange to some, but to me it’s total and complete sweetness.
