I had an early dinner tonight as I’m about to go to work til late! I couldn’t resist…when I was at whole foods this afternoon I decided to forgo my dinner idea of tofu stir fry and instead buy something yummy at the deli to have as a treat! I got a slice of broccoli frittata along with green bean salad with tomatoes and feta cheese. Both were absolutely delish! After I was done eating though I realized I hadn’t had many grains today so I made myself a slice of toast with jam to have….worked doubly as a sweet treat! I think I’m all set now to be on my feet for five hours running…I’m bringing with me a new bar though that I haven’t tried before: Think Organic–chocolate coconut flavor. I’ll probably eat this in stages throughout the night–breaking off a little piece here and there when I can! Oh, the joy of working at a very popular restaurant!!
At the store today I bought a hazelnut soy latte to sip on while I shopped! Yummy!
Since I didn’t prepare this myself I have absolutely NO idea how many calories were in this meal and I don’t feel comfortable just “guessing” for you guys because I like to be accurate for you all.

February 1, 2008 at 10:25 pmOh I have been wanting to try those bars!
Thanks for your answers to my questions! One of the readers answered my turnip question, but I guess, I was trying to ask if I could replace two carrots for the turnips. Thanks again!

February 1, 2008 at 10:25 pmI work at Roy’s…its a Hawaiian fusion restaurant and QUITE the hot spot it seems……we usually have about 200- 300 people coming in on a typical night. Working there kills a bird with 2 stones: I get a cardio workout AND make money!

February 1, 2008 at 10:25 pmCassie–a root veggie is a root veggie…I’m sure that would turn out great but with a slightly different (but not bad) taste

February 1, 2008 at 10:29 pmI used to work at a steakhouse and i totally know what you mean about seriously running for five hours!! I was always starving after work!
I was also wondering if you could post what you got at the grocery store. or you could do an updated refrigerator post. Thanks!

February 1, 2008 at 11:05 pmI love the THINKorganic bars, but I find it so odd that the other two product lines, THINKthin and THINKgreen are full of preservatives and protein powder.

February 1, 2008 at 11:27 pmJenna,
Thank you so much for your recommendation π
I am currently in college, and Starbucks does in fact provide a sense of comfort for me. I would like to branch out however, so I will look for the βNew Orleans Coffee + Chicory” or the Illy coffee.
As for raw food bars (I am an on again off again raw foodie) I do love the ThinkOrganic. My favorite is the cashew of that same brand. Otherwise, I tend toward the apple, cinnamon or cocoa mole larabars or the clif nectar lemon, vanilla, cashew bar.
Have a great weekend and thanks again!

February 2, 2008 at 1:08 amI have read “Fast Food Nation” too…. It is gross just thinking about it. π I think they have a DVD out too with FES from the 70s show.
Have you (or anyone) tried the soyjoy bars??

February 2, 2008 at 3:01 amHey guys,
I need your help! A bunch of my friends and I are going out tomorrow night because several of us are taking our first part of the CPA exam and we want to celebrate being done with the test. How do you guys go out and still have fun when everyone else is drinking? Or how do you deal with all the questions, etc when everyone realizes you aren’t drinking? I’ve been changing a lot of habits lately and slowly losing weight and haven’t gone out in awhile because of the test so this is the first time I’ll be faced with this situation since I’ve started changing my lifestyle!
Thanks guys!

February 2, 2008 at 3:10 amhow fun to treat yourself to dinner at Whole Foods – yum!! and the ThinkOrganic bar looks quite scrumptious as well :0)
**Vegandancer:
I noticed you said you’re an “on again off again raw foodie” – I’m a high-raw vegan (I eat 75-80% raw, all the time); oh and I LOVE Larabars!! I eat one everyday.

February 2, 2008 at 4:31 amJenna,
Thank you so much for the blog! I just love the healthy approach you have with food. I find myself slowly making changes in my meals adding more veggies & fruits! I’m a 23 yrs old nursing student, I always feel like I don’t have time for anything. However, seeing how you juggle everything is truly inspiring!

February 2, 2008 at 5:22 amKatie in TN, let me just say I KNOW THE FEELING!! It’s an awkward position at first…ya know, to NOT do what everyone else IS for *whatever* reason, but if you stick with whatever lifestyle changes you make, it’ll just become part of who you are and how people see you (whether they like it or not!!) I, personally, like being the girl who doesn’t drink like the rest of her friends<-meaning…OVERdoing it! I don’t really have the desire to drink much at all (If I’m going to celebrate by downing some calories…it’ll almost always be with something solid…and SWEET!!) but I definitely see how the occassional glass of wine is a nice treat. Anyway, think of how you won’t feel BLAH the next day and prove to yourself that you CAN celebrate and have fun without drinking; that will be one of the biggest rewards. Just remember the real reason yall are out having a good time and enjoy knowing the first part of the CPA is over! (my roommate is graduating with a bachelor’s in accounting this semester; I’ve seen how much work it is) You may find that you’re not having fun (b/c, yes, it can be boring to be around others when you’re the one not drinking), but like I said, YOU should be celebrating too, soo feel free to let loose with them…minus the alcohol (it IS possible-haha). As far as what to say… that depends on your personality. If someone every sincerely asks me about it, I just give them the “never had the desire” spill. But if I’m out and someone who’s already half-drunk asks, I just say something sarcastic…along the lines of “it’s this new thing I’m trying. It’s called “actually remember how I broke my heel, locked my keys in my car, and flushed my phone down the toilet”…” But that’s me. The bottom line is remember WHO you changed your ways for and why. And if that person wants to be happier and healthier and thinks that cutting out too much alcohol is the way to go…then go for it!! Sorry for the long spill….I just know how hard it is for some people to understand WHY other people don’t over do it in the drinking department – Especially in college!

Step away from the SoyJoy bars they are awful! They taste like sponges.

February 2, 2008 at 2:40 pmThat Think bar looks really interesting, I have never tried that one before! In fact, I’ve never even heard of it. I will have to look for those at the store.

February 2, 2008 at 4:43 pmHow would you compare Think to Lara bars? I’ve tried Laras, but not Think. I believe they are both raw and vegan, right? Laras are pretty much nuts and fruit. Jenna – What did you think about the taste?
jenna
February 2, 2008 at 6:02 pmThe tastes of the two bars are pretty similar…I like them both I think. I loved the chocolate flavor of think bars but would have to try the other flavors too to make a real opinion!
