Behind The Butter

A Few of My Favorite Things

Honey Sesame Kashi Crackers—I dip these in everything from hummus to peanut butter, They make a great snack!

Scottish Porridge Oats. I can only find these at Whole Foods but its worth the drive and $. SO MUCH better than quaker, once you eat these you will never go back! I promise! I make my oatmeal in the morning with 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup water and usually peanut butter and walnuts and banana. I crave this and wake up excited to eat it!!!

Pears, bananas, kiwis, apples…….basically all fruit! Easy to prep on the weekends and eat all week long.

Fage 0% greek yogurt. SOOO good (and too bad it’s so expensive and I can only afford it when I make a lot of tips at the restaurant I work at)…..a close second is stonyfield farms plain nonfat yogurt. I used to eat the sugary kind but its seriously a lot better to get the plain and then dress it up with a little jam, honey, maple syrup or fruit. And better for you! Most sugary “normal” yogurts either have 1) a ton of sugar in them 2) weird ingredients that I can’t pronounce as well as artificial sweeteners 3) HFCS-high fructose corn syrup …we all know that’s no good!

Cottage cheese. I always buy 1%. I like to mix it into my oatmeal in the morning to mix it up sometimes when I need some more protein!

Skim milk

Nuts: Walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts, cashews. the fat in them is GOOD for you, so eat away!!! (in moderation of course) Often times I make my own trail mix with some nuts and dried fruit to have as a quick power-snack

PEANUT BUTTER!!!! I grind my own at my health food store and could literally eat it with a spoon. I try to contain myself:) Good thing its healthy!!

Hummus. Its fun and delish to make your own but I usually just buy it 😉 Cedar’s Garlic Lover’s Hummus is my favorite. I love it slathered on warm whole wheat pitas stuffed with veggies

aaaaand of course…my sweet tooth. I only buy dark chocolate with a min. of 70% cocoa in it. I have a little bit everyday…usually after lunch (seriously!) I think its fine to eat as long as you don’t overdo it. I also love to BAKE and make really good chocolate chip cookies if i say so myself. Sometimes, there’s nothing like a homemade cookie to make your day a lot better. *Like I said, I eat DESSERT! The key is to keep it in moderation!

My newest love is this Chocolate Pepperment Vitasoy drink that I found last week at whole foods. It’s about 100 calories for 6 ounces, which is all you need if you drink a hot mug of it! Very tasty!

*I’m sure I’ll be updating this list often as I find out about more new foods out there and get fun to things to experiment with at the grocery store! 🙂
