Breakfast

A New Kind of Alarm Clock

Morning!

Mmmmm I had such a good sleep last night. I think one of the best things about living in Northern California is the ability to sleep with your windows open all the time, something I never have done before growing up in South Florida. Last night my room was chilly, my down comforter was soft and I slept like a baby. Love it. I really didn’t want to get up this morning but remembered I had to cook the beans I had soaked overnight before my meeting! (yes, cooking beans is my driving force to get up in the morning. I’m special).

Oats in a jar was my reward! Check out that steam!

IMG_8520

I used 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup soymilk, 1/2 cup water, 1 banana, pumpkin butter, drizzle of maple syrup and….almond butter, of course.

Agenda for today includes:

  • Write new True/Slant article
  • Meeting at work
  • Trader Joe’s for basics
  • Farm stand for produce
  • cook/recipe writing
  • yoga

It’s going to be a GORGEOUS day!!

Jenna, have you ever cooked beans in a crock pot? They always turn out really well and you just let them cook all day.

    Have a great day!

I too am a windows open kind of girl, but I have a wussy husband who sleeps with an electric blanket on his side of the bed. When we were trying to have kids, I totally forbid its usage. And yes, I’m leaving comments about sperm count. I’m classy like that.

    Have a GREAT day!

I have definitely cooked beans from scratch before going to work. Once I was late meeting a friend for an early morning run and my excuse was – “So sorry – my pinto beans took longer than usual!” Haha. Usually I don’t eat them for breakfast, but it’s always nice getting the prep work out of the way 🙂

Just a note to let you know how much I appreciate your blog. It’s been inspiring to follow you through your California adventure and see how boldly you manage all the trials and tribulation. I’ve also gained some fantastic foodie tips from you: 1) hot sauce on salad w/hummus ROCKS! 2) oats in a nut butter jar are heavenly. Thanks for sharing.

nothin’ better than when the weather is fit for sleepin’ with the windows open, sighhhh I love that! unless they are constructing a daycare across the street from your house, in which case shutting the windows before 7am is necessary unless you plan on waking up at that time haha :/

There’s something about a beautiful day that makes even the most trying circumstances doable. NYC was spectacular today as well. Apparently, good weather is bi-coastal today.

I tried your oats in a jar a couple weeks ago, and it was great. Almond butter from every angle. Plus, it’s an incredibly resourceful way to use up those hard-to-scrape-out remains of nut butter. My Grandma would give you a thumbs up for that, she’s a frugal lady who experienced her childhood during the Great Depression.

Looking forward to your new article!
