Being Mature

Hey friends!

Sorry for being MIA all morning but you will never guess what happened to me. Well, some of you already know if you follow me on Twitter but I’ll tell everyone else in a minute….breakfast first!

IMG_0825.JPG

1 cup Nature’s Path Optimum cereal with a few Quaker oatmeal squares with fresh berries and almond milk. I let Ryan have the super GM this morning instead!

IMG_0826.JPG
IMG_0827.JPG

He used:

  • 1 frozen naner
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 scoop Amazing Meal
  • 1/2 scoop Amazing Grass wheatgrass powder
  • 1 spoonful Smart Balance pb
  • about 4 cups spinach
  • 1 piece kale

He said this was the best one yet and he has had energy all morning. Must be the added half scoop of wheatgrass! Boy, that stuff is potent. I tasted his smoothie and I have to say, it did taste rather like grass this morning. But not in a bad way! Sort of like the way fresh cut grass smelled—-that’s how Ryan’s smoothie tasted.

So, this morning, I was all set to go to the super hardcore spinning/strength class at the gym this morning to sweat out some of that lobster from last night and while I was parking I was on the phone with my mom chatting up a storm……….and totally locked my keys in the car. Of course being the mature 24 year old that I am, I went inside the gym to whine to my daddy about it, who then waited with me in the parking lot for 45 minutes while AAA came and opened up my car door. Of course by that point spinning was over!

I refused to go home totally humiliated and defeated, however, so I strapped on my 24 year old big girl panties and went back inside the gym (over an hour later) to work out. It ended up being a really good workout though so I guess alls well that ends well!!

I did:

  • 50 minutes on the treadmill—walked first 5 minutes, ran a mile, walked next 10 minutes, ran another mile, walked final 10 minutes.
  • Crunches

I have gotten clearance from the doctor to run with my new orthotics. I need to take it slow but not TOO slow since I am in half marathon training and need to push myself a little bit to get my endurance back up there without getting injured. Running felt AWESOME today and it took all my self control to stop running and walk after my second interval. Unfortunately I think I’m destined for the treadmill for awhile and that really stinks since where I really want to be is outside with my Team in Training group. Luckily my coaches totally understand and don’t want me to hurt myself by coming back outside too soon.

After my workout this morning I snacked on this applesauce! LOVED the blueberry flavor!

IMG_0828.JPG

And then made lunch a little later, since by then it was already 11:15!

IMG_0829.JPG

I made good use out of my birthday avocado by mashing half of it with a pinch of salt, cumin, red pepper flakes, hot sauce and the juice of one lime. Instant guac! 🙂

IMG_0830.JPG

The rest of the salad consisted of:

  • about 6 pieces Dinosaur Kale, torn up and “massaged” with lemon juice and sea salt
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • half a cucumber, sliced
  • a handful of organic spicy blue corn chips
  • a small handful of black beans
  • salsa

IMG_0831.JPG

IMG_0833.JPG

It was a delicious mess!

With a slice of watermelon on the side…..I just can’t get enough of this in the summer!

IMG_0832.JPG

And there was definitely a small piece of organic dark chocolate for dessert. Michelle totally made my day when I received a special birthday package FULL of chocolate all the way from AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_0760.JPG

Michelle, I love you. Those little milk chocolate covered honeycomb things rock my world. The only place I can find them is a small candy shop near my grandparent’s house in Wisconsin. I haven’t had them for years! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🙂

I also received a care package from the generous folks over at MyRecipes.com!

A GREAT purse (which I need since mine is a bottomless pit!), to-do notes (another necessity) and a fab nail polish, which I’ve already used to paint both my toes and fingers. 🙂
IMG_0775.JPG
And I’ve already filled the purse with all the necessities!

IMG_0785.JPG
I’m honestly feeling a little behind right now since I didn’t do anything except relax yesterday! I’ve got an inbox full and several articles to write as well as Blog Summit stuff to plan! 🙂 Ryan is fishing after work with a friend so it looks like I’ll be dining solo. I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve though! 😉

Hair day 2!

IMG_0834.JPG
It was SO easy this morning at the gym! I wore it halfway up and then it only took like 10 minutes to blow dry. Short, easy and light for summer!

Sorry about getting locked out…no fun at all! I’m glad you still got in a great workout.

Love the hair! It seems like summer is the perfect time to try a shorter cut. I love salon styles that are easily recreated at home. 🙂

I’m glad you had a great workout, despite the keys setback! Love your hair still!- I chopped mine off even shorter than yours and LOVE it. It takes a few min to dry then like 1 to flat iron and I’m done. Off my neck and great for summer 🙂

I did THE SAME thing with my keys a few months ago. I was on the phone with my mom and all distracted and I left the keys in the ignition! The only difference was I was on the way HOME from the gym, all excited about making a late dinner (and starvinggg). I was locked out of my car and apartment and started crying bc I was so cranky hahah!

Hahah I did that too. Unfortunately it was just as I was getting back to my car from an awkward date and then he (very nicely, I’ll admit) insisted on waiting with me for my roommate to show up with the spare key.

So glad to hear you’re running again and that it felt great. I know the treadmill sucks, but it’s a necessary evil. It was such a huge part of my getting over my shin issues. But now it’s all roads and trails for me, and you’ll get there too!

I am jealous of all your goodies! Congrats on being able to run, I’m such that is a big relief. I had the blueberry pom applesauce today too, that line of products are soo good. I think the raspberry acai is my fave though 😉

I have locked myself out of my car already. My sister and I went to the gas station to fill up and put air in the tyres. The only thing I know about cars is driving them. So while putting air in the tyres I dropped the cap and my sister who was in the car came out to help me look. However we left the keys in the ignition with the engine off and we both closed our doors. My car locks automatically after a while. Cell phones and purses locked in the car. A very nice attendant loaned us his phone, someone once told me that you can open your car door if you press the button through a cell phone (that does not work). We had to wait until someone brought us the extra set from home a little over an hour. My sister who had a couple dollars in her pocket bought a water and a snack and refused to share because it was my fault (according to her).

Yikes! At least your Dad was there to keep you company! This is random, but I absolutely LOVE your pink cereal bowl! Anthropologie? I have a small one like it in pink, and it’s the perfect size for yogurt. I couldn’t find the bigger ones, though. =( Also that french onion soup you had last night looks DEE-LICIOUS! Have you ever tried the kind from Panera? It doesn’t have the melty cheese layer, but it has these really addictive croutons on it that get all soupy and good. =)

    Hi Jenna,
you made me laugh with your story about locking your keys in the car. It’s such an awful feeling to see your damn keys sitting there and not be able to do anything!
It has happened to me twice. Once at the mall, in the evening, in the dead of winter (I’m in NJ). The lovely security guards that helped me would take turns because their hands were getting numb from the cold. It took them like 20 minutes to open it.
The second time I was outside Target (notice a pattern here?) and for some reason I had left the passenger side window open a bit and my keys were on the passenger seat. I could barely get my arm inside but I couldn’t reach the keys. So I went back to Target and got a really long ladle with a hook on one end (it was the cheapest thing I could think of), went back to the car and used it to get my keys. Success! I gave the ladle to my mom.
    Btw, love your new ‘do.

I can totally relate, because one time I left my keys inside my backpack as usual while working out, but someone stole them, but left my backpack there. Luckily, my grandparents were at the gym too, took me to school, and everything worked out ok. Glad to hear things worked well for you too!
Love the very chic haircut 😀

Omg, that’s hilarious about the car keys. Luckily, I haven’t done that myself yet, but that totally sounds like something that would happen to me. My luck, it would be pouring rain and I’d be stuck outside! 😉

Glad to hear that the running went well today though. Take it easy for a while yet, but it sounds like you’ll be up and ready to take on that marathon! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your Friday!

That sucks you locked your keys in your car!! That’s great your dad was there with you! I commend you for going into gym after all of that. I get so worked up in those situations and would have found it difficult to go afterward.

    Your lunch looks sooooo good!

    Have a fab evening!

So sorry you got your keys locked in your car — that is NO fun! I did that once at Ikea and I had to stand outside of my car with a full cart of furniture. Ha — I felt so stupid!

And I’m happy to hear running with the orthotics is going so well! You, me, and Caitlin have all been happy with our orthotics over the past few days — yay us!

So I have been reading your blog for a good while now but never commented (no clue why). Anyways – I did a total LOL to myself when I read about locking your keys in your car at the gym and calling your Dad to whine about it. I have definitely done the same thing – more than once sadly when I was 22-23ish living at home – now I am a downtown city girl sans car so I thankfully don’t have to worry about that anymore!

IMO, you’re never to old to let Daddy take care of things, especially car things! It makes them feel good that we still turn to them, I think! Super impressive that you still got in a workout! I would have probably just gone home and sulked all day.

the color of that green smoothie is insane. it’s almost neon! i’m guessing that’s the wheatgrass. by the way, that green & black’s organic 70% cocoa dark chocolate is my FAVORITE dark chocolate! they also make mini bars of it. i love those! 🙂

YEAH..you got the package! I was wondering when you were going to get it. I am glad that you like that honeycomb…it’s addictive. Oh, and I always ALWAYS lock myself out of my house. So I have three keys everywhere because after asking my landlord about three times in one week to open my house for me I couldn’t stand the fact of doing it again. I totally know what you mean..it’s super annoying.
