Happy Thanksgiving!
Y’all will never in a million years guess what happened! My friend has the SWINE FLU and dinner was canceled!!! Can you even believe it??! Seriously???Β I feel so bad for her. I sort of freaked when I got that news last night but then I quickly sprung into action and reverted back to my original Thanksgiving plans, which was to eat dinner with a bunch of friends here in Healdsburg, only about a mile away from my house. We are having duck and gelato and lots and lots of wine. It actually sounds pretty awesome. π I’m bummed I won’t get to hang out with Daisy but I’m thankful for friends that are willing to take me in here so I don’t have to be Thanksgiving-less!
I actually got my fill of turkey last night though!
I was Rocky’s “date” for the evening to a Kendall-Jackson Thanksgiving potluck and we had a blast! Good food, awesome people and lots of delicious wine. I got to hang out with the cool KJ culinary team and, obviously, the food was rockin’….’specially the turkey that Chef Ryan sous-vide. Mmmmmm
You know you’re in the wine industry when you play sweet telephone games, passing a mystery glass of wine around the table and everyone whispering in the next person’s ear what they smell. SO fun. I think my two “scents” were brie cheese and radishes. It was hilarious.
My plate:
On my plate I have: “party potatoes”, collards, sous-vide turkey, regular turkey breast, brussels sprouts, a turkey enchilada, some cranberry sauce and a piece of Chef Eric’s homemade sourdough bread, which I am OBSESSED with.
Of course, at a gathering such as this, wine was definitely not lacking….
Loved this Arrowood Cab but my favorite was the Hartford Court Fog Dance Pinot Noir…..Mmmmmmmmmmm probably the best Pinot I’ve tasted in a very, very long time. I might need to make a trip to Hartford Court in the near future….
There was also pumpkin pie, obviously
We ended up sitting around the table and laughing until almost 1 a.m. Good times…thanks for an awesome evening, everyone!
This morning I had some oatmeal and strong black coffee (currently drinking BlueBottle and it rocks):
And I’m about to go hug the big redwood trees in Armstrong Woods then do some yoga before my 4:00 dinner.
I’m so thankful for sooo many things in my life. It makes my heart burst to even think about it. Great family, Jesus Christ, amazing friends, delicious food, music, laughter, Dexter, wine, the great outdoors, California sunsets, big trees, my yoga mat, my french press coffee maker, beautiful photos, the ocean……and so much more. Yep, I’m a very blessed girl indeed.

November 26, 2009 at 9:29 amHey Jenna, I was out of the loop for a while but I’m back on your blog and so happy that all your hard work has paid off so well! I have a question about all this wine you all drink! I’m really inspired by how healthy and balanced your routine is. I find that any sort of alcohol can really throw me off…how are you handling the amount of drinking and still not getting thrown off your game? Thanks

November 26, 2009 at 9:32 amOhhh, so sorry to hear about your friend and the flu! I actually got Swine Flu last May when it hit NYC, and it sucked! Just tell her to rest, rest, rest and get lots of fluids. Unless you have other health complications, it really is like most other flu’s- I can say that from first-hand experience.
The idea of wine-telephone is so fun and brilliant. Definitely only a game for a serious wine enthusiast who has a sensitive palate. Your dinner and plate looks both gorgeous and delicious. Especially those collard greens, yummo!
Happy Thanksgiving, Jenna! Have fun in the trees!

November 26, 2009 at 9:34 amOf course Blue bottle is the ONLY coffee worth drinking! I just had to post my breakfast today. I had steel cut oats with almond butter and pomegranate seeds ( I know they have a more technical name, but they’re seeds to me). The taste was so sweet and refreshing, it’s my new favorite way to eat oatmeal.

I got a kick out of your table full of wine. I can say the same thing about the beer industry…there is no shortage of brews at our events, that’s for sure!
