Dessert/ Dinner

Burgers, Beer and Baseball

Thank you all so much for all your kind comments earlier! I felt sort of “off” all day but I laid down for awhile after lunch and felt better after resting. I think it was because of the coffee I drank pre-run. As we all know, coffee dehydrates you and that, combined with not drinking enough water, was enough to make me feel quite woozy! Coffee is like anything else……good in moderation but not good in mass quantities—especially right before you plan to run a 10K!

This afternoon for a snack I made a smoothie with a half scoop of vanilla protein powder, a cup of skim milk, half a banana and five huge frozen strawberries:

My concoction made way more than one mug full so I gave the extra to the boy.

Ryan and I had a very relaxing day…and for dinner we invited Erin over to grill out burgers and watch the World Series. Ryan and I went to the grocery store and I picked out 96% lean ground beef. That’s pretty good considering a burger made with it has only 150 calories and 5 grams of fat.

For appetizers, we got some veggie chips and black bean dip:

And I finally found pumpkin beer!

I really really liked it! Finally, I find a beer I actually like and want to drink. Natural Light and Bud Light really gross me out but I’m finding a new love in microbrews and seasonal flavors. Quite a difference from the keg parties of my college past! 😉 I had one and a half throughout dinner and the start of the game.

Ryan mixed the burger meat with some feta cheese (a DELISH addition) and we topped them with sharp cheddar cheese:

We also got salad greens and some new dressing that I picked out:

It was just okay. Nothing like Woodstock, but this was all they had. I wouldn’t buy it again.

And then for dessert……………………LOOK WHAT I FOUND!

Seriously, how amazing does that look?! They had a bunch of different flavors but this one was just calling my name. And, the gelato is made with skim milk and only contains 140 calories per half cup! Woop woop!

    Hil,

Actually ALL gelato is made that way! Gelato in general has over half the fat of ice cream….its typically made with skim milk and is much lighter and fluffier. A fun fact I learned in college when my roommate and I would go to “gelato happy hour” twice a week. Love it!

Glad you had a fun night! I’ve been dying to try some pumpkin beer, I don’t like bud light or natural light, the only ones I’ll drink are Michelob Ultra and Miller Light. But I want some pumpkin flavored ale in my life!

Yay for lean ground beef, it makes the burgers so much better when you know they are good for ya 😉

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your night, that gelato looks to die for!

That gelato is quite intriguing… I wonder if my local markets have it?
I keep meaning to try pumpkin beer, and I’m with you on the grossness of the “bigger” brewed beers…

Hello Jenna! I’ve been reading your blog for almost a year now, and decided I should stop being creepy and actually start to comment, lol. Anyway, you’re too frickin cute in that pic! I am currently stuck in the world of Nati Light and Bud Light at Ohio U, but we tend to treat ourselves with something a bit nicer (leinenkugel, anyone?). Hope your weekend was fab and can’t wait to see what you’ll be creating this week!

Yum, gelato. I only just discovered the goodness of gelato this past summer. It’s hard to believe it’s “healthier” than ice cream because it tastes soooo good!

Just curious where you found the gelato? I’ve been so picky with “gelato” found here after having it almost every day when I went to Italy March 07!

Also – I passed on a blog award to you! (You can check it out on my most recent post). I love your blog, love reading new posts, and so I had to include you in my favorites! I know Erica awarded you too. 🙂 Congrats!

That’s sad about the dressing- it sounds like it could be similar to tzatziki (which I LOVE).

Woohoo pumpkin beer!! I’ve never seen that one before!

    Niiice dessert find!
Coffee doesn’t dehydrate you as much as people think. It does have a slight diuretic effect, but you’re taking in more water with the coffee than you are losing (but it is not a very efficient hydration method).
I love yogurt dressing, so maybe I would have more luck with that flavor.

    Hi Jenna,
I am glad you are feeling better!!

Of course Michelle has some questions:
Where did you purchase that great looking beer?
Where did you purchase that great looking gelato??

Hope your having a great day!!!

Yay for pumpkin beer!! I don’t like that one nearly as much as Dogfish’s (I had it this weekend) but unfortunately Dogfish is super expensive! Wish you could try the local Cottonwood one here!

My college drinking used to be Bartles & James wine coolers!

But now I love all of the cool microbrews that are out there now. I meant to pick up pumpkin beer this weekend and forgot! Thanks for the reminder!

Oh, and the gelato looks amazing! Happy Monday 😀

    Girls,

Both the gelato and the beer were bought at our local grocery store in Tampa—Sweetbay. It’s definitely not a fancy grocery store and I much prefer Publix but its right next to our condo so we go there often.

Jenna, Didn’t you say on a earlier post that you liked BJ’s restaurant ? I love the own Pumpkin Ale . It is really good. It is there seasonal beer. I agree with veggie girl: luscious gelato are the epitome of dessert/food porn. Right On! I’m going on a hunt for it.

Jenna, Is the Woodstock dressing you always have made by Annie’s? One of my favorite dressings is Annie’s Goddess. What is your Woodstock? Also, I’ve really enjoyed the photos and details of your chef work. It’s amazing how much food a chef can crank out in one day! Another question: Who are some “star” chefs you like? Who inspired you?

    Sheryl,

The woodstock dressing IS by Annies. It seems rather hard to find though! Its so delicious though….i think it has a tahini base with garlic and tomatoes. I just looove it and hope I can find it somewhere again soon!

Hmm…star chefs…I don’t really watch the food network so I’m sort of out of the loop on those. My mom inspired me the most because she is a wonderful healthy cook. I have Giada de Laurentis’s cookbooks and like her “everyday italian” approach. She also went to a branch of my school so that’s a perk!

    Bev,
I LOVED bjs! oh my gosh, the pizza is to die for! I had an amazing salad though…I think it was the bbq chicken. SO good!!
