Early bird dinner was a success!
I used to have to eat at 5:00 when I went to school at night so it wasn’t too much of an adjustment. I’m always hungry anyways! My mom made dirty rice with shrimp that she sauteed in olive oil and garlic. My body was just craaaaaving something substantial and I cleaned my plate!
I thought I would crave something sweet and dessert-like after, but I didn’t. I’m actually quite full. I think my body is just weirded out by the fact that I’ve already been awake for 15 hours today. It doesn’t know what to do with itself! Good news is that I got a locker lock, already packed my breakfast and snacks and I’m about to take bubble bath number two to ease myself into relaxation mode.
Tomorrow I go to work til 12:30, have to see the dentist at 3:00 for a post-op from last week and in between I’m desperately going to try to do a yoga download. Looks like I’ll only be able to actually get in a studio to practice twice a week on my days off but I can still practice on my own via yogadownload (thank God for them!) to supplement that. Boy, am I ever glad I didn’t join a gym here…….running on a treadmill is the LAST thing I feel like doing after working from 4 am on! I think my job counts as exercise in itself—my feet were killing me today!
I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off because its my graduation (!!) and I have family coming in from Wisconsin to go with us to the ceremony in Orlando on Saturday. I also was able to make an appointment with an Ayurvedic Physician and Certified Acupuncturist on Friday afternoon for a 30 minute consultation and then a 30 minute acupuncture session. I cannot wait!
See you tomorrow!

January 13, 2009 at 5:52 pmI used to go to an acupuncturist back home! My mom recommended her. Being Chinese, my mom is a firm believer in accupuncture and going into it, I was very skeptical. On the first visit, the acupuncturist made me stick out my tongue.. after which she asked me if I had stomach problems. And I had definitely been having stomach problems for about a month before my visit. It was amazing. After two or three sessions I had no more stomach aches. And she helped me with my headaches/migraines also! Hope you have a good experience too 🙂

January 13, 2009 at 6:08 pmA really easy way to get yogadownload mp3s is to download them on iTunes. You can get the 20-minute ones for free without having to sign up with yogadownload and go to the download page, etc… Also if you just do a search in the iTunes store there are A TON of free yoga classes. There are a bunch from “Yoga for the People” that are an hour long and free! I did one this morning. Good night!

January 13, 2009 at 7:33 pmI have a friend who SWEARS by acupuncture. She had such terrible back pain she was living on vicodin, but now she is completely drug and pain free due to the acupuncture. I hope it helps you too!
You raise an interesting point about being on your feet all day. I often wonder how much, if any, exercise people with physically demanding jobs should do. Clearly its not the same as those with a desk job. If you have any insight, I’d love to hear it!

January 13, 2009 at 9:25 pmHey Jenna,
Sounds like your first day on the job was a success. I agree – working on your feet like that IS exercise. I think your job supplemented with yoga will definitely keep you in tip-top shape, especially if you’re riding your bike a lot. I’m excited about your Ayurvedic consultation. Have a good day tomorrow!

I had navratna korma tonight and we picked up some coconut milk ice cream for friday.. must be dental season :p, and I found they also had coconut milk yogurt! I will have to go back to look for the rice you speak of, haha!
Now if only you would make a bread baking video *hint hint* 😀

January 14, 2009 at 7:15 amyour dinner looks really good!!
Is the acupuncture appointment for your migraines?
jenna
January 14, 2009 at 3:01 pmJenna 2,
Well that and other things…..basically to feel more balanced. I’ve had acupuncture for my migraines before though and it does instantly take away the pain, the only problem is having to go there when you suddenly get a headache. Hopefully with some holistic preventative meds, I can contain them.

January 14, 2009 at 7:34 amI am so excited to hear about you appt. I have always wanted to try accupuncture but I have been skeered. I hope it goes well!

January 14, 2009 at 9:10 amJenna- Congrats on finishing your first day!! Quick question, how were you able to find the ayurveda specialist? Just by luck or by searching?
jenna
January 14, 2009 at 3:00 pmKatie S,
Nope! She actually attended my yoga detox weekend and passed out business cards there. I can’t wait. I’ve had acupuncture before and loved it. It feels heavenly!

January 14, 2009 at 10:06 amAdjusting to a new schedule really messes with your appetite, doesn’t it? I never know when to eat when I travel overseas. I end up accidentally going for a long time without food sometimes.

January 14, 2009 at 12:27 pmYum- mom meals are the best 🙂
Good luck getting adjusted to your schedule! That’s so hard to get used to.

January 14, 2009 at 1:57 pmHi Jenna! Somehow I don’t think I have visited your blog before, but I heard from Meghann that you’ll all be around for the Gasparilla half! I haven’t registered yet, but I’m seriously thinking about doing the 5K on that’s on the 28th and thought I’d say “hi” in case I run into you, Caitlin and Meghann 🙂 Have a great day!
