Breakfast/ Lunch

Dog vs. Cat

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late post—y’all know how my Mondays are!!! :\

I woke up sort of early this morning, starving! I had a bowl of Barbara’s Shredded Wheat with vanilla soymilk. No bananas because we were out 🙁

After my bowl of cereal I was still a little hungry, so I just finished the bag. There wasn’t much left anyways!

I had to run errands this morning and finally pick up my contact lenses so I don’t have to keep wearing my librarian glasses everywhere! On my way, I stopped at the coffee shop next to our apartment and picked up a quick iced coffee. They make it the best!

And then it was the open road. I wanted to get back to Orlando as soon as possible to get my grocery shopping done and start to clean. My roommate is coming back tomorrow for awhile! Finding a job in what she specializes in (police force) is proving to be more difficult than she thought at home so she’s coming back here to give it a try again! And………she adopted a new puppy! So it’s going to be very very interesting with Dexter and the new puppy. She’s nervous but I think once they get used to each other they’ll be alright. Any thoughts on helping them adjust? Dexter is great around Mikan but she said her puppy (only like 6 months old) is not so great around cats. It will be a full house for sure! I want to clean everything today though so it will be all ready for her when she gets here.

For lunch today I just made a super quick Amy’s California Veggie Burger on a Rudi’s bun with provolone, dijon and ketchup. I had a nice juicy pear to boot.

I’m going to try to rush my cleaning so I can get in a yoga session later this afternoon! Ready, set, go!

Puppies and young cats are better than puppies and old cats, so it should be fine – especially if Dex is used to Mikan. I would say introduce them slowly and keep an eye on them for the first day or two, maybe separating them while you’re both gone for the first day or two. Hopefully they’ll be buddies!

    Hi Jenna,

I can absolutely relate to your dog vs cat quandary! My fiance and I just adopted a dog, and our cat is not overly thrilled with the new addition to the family. We’ve been struggling with trying to get the two used to each other – and they do okay as long as I’m holding the cat out of reach – but as soon as the dog starts sniffing the cat, she runs away and hides under the bed (I feel awful for causing her all of this stress!) Our dog hasn’t shown any aggression toward our cat, but even after almost 2 months, they are rarely in the same room together.

I’m interested to read what other comments/suggestions people have on this dilemma!

I agree with BethT. After a few days, they should be fine.

So I just went back and saw your video post, how I missed it the first time I have no idea but it was SO ADORABLE! I love putting a voice/personality to sites, it makes it so much more personal!

    More vids please 🙂

Whenever my family got a new dog growing up, we would always let them both meet on the street in front of our house, so the old dog doesn’t get territorial with the new ones. Put them both on leashes and take them somewhere out of their normal environment. It’s always worked well for us!

    Hi jenna,

I have a four-year-old Tabby who is the queen of the household (and sooooo adorable). I’ve been wanting to adopt a dog forever, so I fostered one for a few days…it was a disaster. Tessa HATES any other animals, including cats (I fostered one of those too, a kitten). This is so funny because anytime I bring over a person, including strangers (in Tessa’s eyes), Tessa immediately warms up to them and is like their best friend in minutes. It’s disappointing to me but I’ve just accepted that Tessa and I will just be sidekicks for a while…she’s enough for me. MORE than enough. 🙂

Speaking of glasses/contacts, have you thought about LASIK? I am pretty much blind without my glasses and contacts and was so frustrated with it all. I’m fairly young (just turned 28) and decided to go ahead and look into getting the procedure done. Well, I just bit the bullet and had it done on June 17th! BEST DECISION I EVER MADE! It’s AMAZING to wake up and go…to fall asleep with no fiddling…it’s just a phenomenal feeling. I cannot recommend it enough. And I’m a teacher with tons of bills and student loans and was able to work something out (plus, I got a huge discount for being a “hero”–got quite a laugh out of that one!).

    Anyhoo, just sayin’…

The Amy’s California Veggie Burger looks so good! Has anybody else tried these before? What did you think?

Good luck with the two pets! My cat has been staying at my parents since October when I started planning to move back in with them…he still runs away whenever he hears their westie bark and won’t come downstairs if she is awake! He loves their little yorkie and maltese though…very skittish boy 🙁
