Happy Monday!
It feels like Sunday? Today is the last day of my mom’s time out here with me—tomorrow morning I have to ship both her and her broken toe back East. We’ve accomplished so much on this trip though and have a full day ahead of us of errands and “chores” to get done.
And I have to take a drivers test for a new California license! There’s a chance I won’t be legal to drive anymore after today. Just sayin’.
On another note, I slept until 8 after a late night of watching boys play a silly little game involving chugging a sweet malt beverage on one knee. The competition was fierce. But that’s another post for another day. Here’s my breakfast:
Millet toast with almond butter and jam and egg whites. I’m about to go to the gym now for Summer Shape Up week 4 and then its off to the DMV to determine my fate.
Goodbye!

June 14, 2010 at 8:55 amI remember when I had to renew my licence after I moved and I was SO scared I was going to fail! Luckily they didn’t ask me to parallel park…it is not my strength! I’m sure you will do just fine, just remember not to go over the speed limit as they watch that very carefully.

June 14, 2010 at 8:57 amHah, that’s too funny that “iced” came up – I was just talking about that with someone recently. Good luck with the DMV!
Lindsey
June 14, 2010 at 9:11 amI may or may not have failed a renewal test once. Haha, it was on the dumbest question too! Oh well, worse things have happened. Glad you weren’t involved in the icing! 😉
Jessica @ How Sweet
June 14, 2010 at 9:19 amYou have to take a whole new test for CA? That is crazy!
Heather (Heather's Dish)
June 14, 2010 at 9:20 ami THINK you’ll make it out just fine 🙂 honestly my grandmother got her CA driver’s license last year…i think you have it together a bit more than she does 🙂

June 14, 2010 at 9:32 amomg, that really sucks you have to retake the test to get your CA license. a written one or a whole road one?! i just got my new jersey license after failing the road test TWICE and i will DIE if i ever have to retake it again upon moving, lol. good luck good luck!!!!

June 14, 2010 at 9:34 amIcing is hilarious. I have bad memories of way too sweet Smirnoff drinks freshman year of college!!
Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit!
June 14, 2010 at 9:34 amI hate driver’s tests! I live in a place with a graduated licensing system and I still have one step to go. Blah!
Good luck!
Amanda
June 14, 2010 at 9:38 amWhen I switched my license from Maine to California, they only made me take the written, so hopefully you’ll have the same luck! If your DMV is as bad as the ones down here in SoCal, you’ll have plenty of time to study the materials while you wait for them to call you. 😉 Either way, much luck to you, and may your photo turn out well (tee hee, license photos)!

June 14, 2010 at 9:39 amOhh good luck on the test; I feel for ya! I failed my 1st driver’s test (but passed 2nd time) – they’re so scary!
Bethany @ More Fruit Please
June 14, 2010 at 9:44 amOh boy, do you remember which way you turn the steering wheel when you’re parking downhill? I failed that question on my test. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the answer! Good luck!

June 14, 2010 at 9:47 amWhen do we get to see your newly designed apartment? I’m so excited!
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman
June 14, 2010 at 9:49 amUgh, the DMV. Possibly the worst place on earth. It’s not so much the tests, if you have to get them, but the insane wait. Bring a book!
Sabrina
June 14, 2010 at 9:50 amI feel like your mom’s trip out was so so fast! Sorry she is leaving already! Have fun taking that test old lady!

June 14, 2010 at 9:54 amMy fiance and his guys friends have taken to icing each other. Its pretty hysterical, and so much creativity comes out of the woodwork. That energy could probably be utliized in other areas of their lives, but it is a good laugh!
Marilou @ Mostly Healthy
June 14, 2010 at 9:59 amCan’t wait to see your appartment!

June 14, 2010 at 10:08 amLol I was JUST introduced to the “icing” this weekend…I really didn’t even get it until the next morning when someone explained it to me like I was 5. Still not sure I get it lol…
Sharon
June 14, 2010 at 10:10 amI’m confused by the summer shape up routine…..are you actually supposed to get on and off the treadmill like every 2 minutes? If that’s the case, this would never work for me. I’d never get the treadmill again, it’s far too busy when I go to the gym. I have to do cardio in one block…I guess it would still work anyway to do the workouts that way?
jenna
June 14, 2010 at 10:30 amHmm I would email Gina and ask…I think the routine you are talking about is best done on a high school track but I would email her and ask!
Sharon
June 14, 2010 at 2:57 pmoh I was talking about the one you posted today…it gives a bunch of strength moves then continues with this…
Run moderately for 5 minutes to warm up
-Sprint for 45 seconds
-Walking lunges for 30 seconds
-Jog 2 minutes
-Bench push-ups for 30 seconds (use bleachers or a tree)
-Jog 1 minute
-Sprint 45 seconds
-Bench tricep dips for 30 seconds (use bleacher or do on the ground with legs bent or straight out in front)
-Jog 2 minutes
-High knee skips for 45 seconds
-Squats for 45 seconds
– Butt kicks for 45 seconds
-Jog or walk 2 minutes (easy)
-Sprint 1 minute
-Tricep dips 30 seconds
-Jog 2 minutes
-Push ups 30 seconds
-Jog (easy!) 5 minutes
that makes sense though if you were doing this at a track…I guess some gyms have an indoor track but not mine/ours! so did you do this part at the Y?

June 14, 2010 at 10:35 amEnjoy the DMV, ick. It’s my hubs bday and we had to schlep it all the way to the tag office, wonderful present from the state of GA.

June 14, 2010 at 10:36 amOhh bros icing bros. Gotta love it!

June 14, 2010 at 10:56 amOh goodness. I have never had to take either a written or driving test after moving to a new state. I’m sure I’d pass a driving test, but passing the written one seems doubtful. Anyway, making any person who moves to CA take a driving test must result in a giant bureaucracy out there… maybe part of the state’s budget problem… ;-P

June 14, 2010 at 11:14 amso glad you had such a great time with your mom-she seems like the best!

June 14, 2010 at 11:49 amHave fun with your test! The DMV sucks. So to make you feel better I am going to tell you the best DMV story ever, and its 100% true.
A friend’s roommate was at the DMV waiting and hating her life like everyone does in the waiting area of the DMV. A nervous looking employee stands up and asks tentatively, “Is there a Shady Nasty here? Shady Nasty?”
People look around and this huge, full-of-attitude black woman stands up and, incredulous, declares, “Oh you did NOT just call me Shady Nasty! My name is Sha-DYNASTY!!!”
That was her real name.
This is the best thing to ever happen in a DMV.
Good luck with your test. 🙂

June 14, 2010 at 3:31 pmI had no idea that there were some places where you have to retake the test in order to renew your license ! Personally, I think it is a great idea. But here when the license expires, you just go to the DMV and get a new one. There’s no test involved!
Amanda
June 14, 2010 at 8:21 pmGood luck with the license! When I moved to Cali I had to retake the written test and was not expecting it! Let’s just say I passed by the skin of my teeth, GL!!
