Everything Is Better At The Beach

by jenna on May 30, 2009

Hi guys!

Well my last day in Charleston was great—it definitely summed up a lovely getaway, which was much needed on my part. Today we headed out to Folly Beach, one of the more popular beaches in Charleston to soak up some rays.

We didn’t end up getting out to the beach until around 12:30 because of traffic, so of course we were all almost gnawing on our arms in hunger! I led the girls to one of my favorite beachy spots—The Lost Dog Cafe!

I LOVE this little cafe. Its definitely off the beaten path and is totally cute and very affordable.

I love how they serve water in mason jars! :)

And I ordered what was probably the best salad I’ve eaten in AGES. It was the Spinach Strawberry Salad with Grilled Shrimp (dressing on the side) and was full of walnuts, red onion, feta and plump juicy strawberries. I ate every last leaf!

It was like a high school reunion! I loved it :)

Next, we hit up the beach. SO relaxing. The sun felt amazing and don’t worry, I slathered myself with sunscreen.…especially my new tattoo! I can’t believe that when we were in high school we lived for the sun and only used SPF 4 with bronzer. Ahhhhh! Well you live you learn I guess!

Enough said. Obviously.

It felt so good!

When we got home we immediately set forth for FreshBerry for some more delish froyo! I got a small tart yogurt with chocolate chips, blackberries and raspberries.

We are all getting ready right now and then at 6:30 we are meeting Lara, one of my good friends from college that still lives in Charleston, for a glass of wine. I haven’t seen Lara since her and her boyfriend, Brian, came and stayed with me in Paris while they were backpacking across Europe two years ago! We have a LOT to catch up on. Lara is an AMAZING artist here in Charleston; click on her link to see her gallery!

Here we are at a Parisian farmer’s market back in 07!

I’m still carrying the same purse! Love me some Orla Kiely :)

After wine we are going across the street to dinner here. I can’t wait. This place is super Southern and was featured on the Food Network!

See you in a bit!

Yay!! Looks like you’re having a blast! :) I’m glad for you Jenna, it seems like you got to see some of your close friends. And that’s always a nice uplifter to be surrounded by supportive people!

Abbey May 30, 2009 at 3:36 pm

By the way, I’ve been meaning to tell you– I don’t know if anyone has ever told you this, but you kind of look like Lauren Conrad from Laguna Beach/The Hills. This is a good thing! Because she’s pretty and so are you chica! :) Have fun!!

rachel May 30, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Hey, I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and think it’s great! I’ve noticed your heart necklace in a few different posts and I really like it! Where did you get it from?

jenna May 30, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Hi Jenna – Tried to send you email, but it kept complaining I had unapproved characters even though I typed out all the links I was trying to send – so excuse posting as a comment.
I wanted to pass on some links I thought you might like
excuse the spelling it out – the email didn’t allow web addresses verbatim and after I typed them all out I didn’t want to re-do it
surf lesson sweepstakes – you and your best friend at a women’s only surf camp in Mexico – from Athleta (now owned by Gap)

Since I know from the blog you’re a yogini and trying to keep running for TnT….
I was looking at some yoga for athletes/runners and found instructor Sage Rountree, who I’ve read in mags….she has videos, books, podcasts, and teaches training classes (some free, esp in Chapel Hill where she is)
dub dub dub sagerountree dot com
She also has some specific running plus yoga programs that link to video clips and instructions (5k, 10k, half-mary)

Looks like you’re having a fab weekend – safe travels home tomorrow!

Adi (oatonomy.com - repaired!) May 30, 2009 at 7:35 pm

I love the water in the mason jar. At a burger joint in my city, they serve giant milk shakes in huge glass measuring cups. Stuff like that is always cool, I think!
That bag is awesome – I’d definitely keep using it. :)

Michelle Hisae May 30, 2009 at 8:12 pm

Ha, you 2 at the end are like twins.

Lexi May 30, 2009 at 8:53 pm

you look beautiful and so happy in Charleston! sounds like this trip is exactly what you needed. I love your outfits too – where did you get the skirt you’re wearing with the yellow top? I love it!!

I’ll be thinking of you and your family during your brother’s graduation. Have a wonderful day!

Anais May 31, 2009 at 9:44 am

That cafe looks adorable!! There’s a place close to where I live where you drink your water from measuring cups (you know the big glass ones?). It’s fun, but it also lets me know how much water I’ve drank! :)

Angela May 31, 2009 at 9:59 am

Oh wow your day looked sooo relaxing and fun!! I wish it was warmer here, lol. Enjoy!

Tiffanie Hage May 31, 2009 at 12:50 pm

Kristie May 31, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Beach days are always the BEST.
I actually drink most of my water out of jars LOL. Totally tastes better that way.
And that yogurt looks completely deliciously amazing. I want some RIGHT now.

Heather May 31, 2009 at 2:06 pm

Looks like you’re having such a fun time! Glad to hear you got to meet up with Lara. It’s always nice to catch up with friends you haven’t seen in a while!

You look ADORABLE in that photo with the water. What a cute place. The salad looks amazing! And probably wouldn’t be too difficult to recreate! :)

Enjoy the rest of your sun and fun! 😉

Melissa @ For the Love of Health May 31, 2009 at 3:15 pm

I missed reading your blog this last week! :-) It looks like you had such a great time at the beach. That salad looks amazing! I see why you say it’s the best you’ve had in awhile! And frozen yogurt is always a bonus!

Have a great one!

Leila May 31, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I love the hairstyle with the front/side braid. Can you give me/us some tips on how to do it??

jenna May 31, 2009 at 4:38 pm

I wish I could but I have NO idea!!!! Christie did this for me; I have no clue as to how to french braid. I’ve always wished I could french braid my own hair but I’ve never been able to. :(

Thank you! I got this outfit from Urban Outfitters about three years ago. Its my favorite skirt!

Sarah May 31, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Ah, I am so jealous of your beach day! :) I’m so glad you took this trip for yourself, it really seems like you had a good time.

Jaime May 31, 2009 at 6:07 pm

New reader to your blog and I love it! I’ve gotten so many new ideas to change up my diet. Thanks to you I am obessed with raw almond butter. Thank you!

Also, randomly, just a month ago I was at Lost Dog Cafe and as far as I can tell, I was at the EXACT same table!
