Far From Florida

by jenna on November 21, 2009

Happy Saturday!

I’ve had a thoroughly lazy and enjoyable Saturday morning, chatting with Miss Polly on the phone for nearly an hour, listening to country music and reading. I’m taking a rest day from exercise and it felt good to just stretch out in my nice warm bed. :)

Breakfast was oats, obviously.

Mmmm pumpkin butter + almond butter make this girl very, very happy indeed.

***

It’s 33 degrees outside!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Florida girl in me wants to pull on another sweatshirt and hibernate but I must brave the cold and go to the winery, where I will romp around in the hills of Dry Creek Valley all day, leading tours and pouring wine. At least it’s sunny outside, unlike yesterday. I feel like it’s going to be a great day!

Brrrrrrrr

I have to tell you that your blog is my absolute favorite! I love your spirit and wish you all the best with your book deal. I too am a food blogger, but I am so much more than that. I am a mother and a wife and a writer and a runner and am currently training to for a marathon. I am also working on becoming a Certified Nutritionist in hopes that all those things comined will allow me to write about health and fitness and children’s nutrition AND do it all from home so that I can be more present with my family. Good luck to you and keep on keepin on!

You will feel better if you go outside! I promise!!! I was so depressed the first winter that I had in Germany because it was freezing and dark, and I didn’t want to brave the cold. I got smart the next winter and forced myself to be outside at least 15 min a day. It helped so much! At least you have work that helps you with that! Have fun at work today!! ;)

Happy Saturday! Enjoy your day at the winery…even though it is incredibly cold! The Louisiana girl in me would have definitely pulled an extra sweatshirt on :)

Teehee! The Canadian in me read that as 33 degrees Celsius and I thought…damn that is HOT….and then I quickly realized you meant Fahrenheit :( Wow, it’s actually colder where you are! It’s about 11 degrees Celsius/57 degrees Fahrenheit here in the Toronto area!!! Eeek!

Wow, I had no idea California was that cold! From one Florida girl to another, I feel your pain! Eventually you will get used to it though. :)

California weather is weird. Sometimes its 45 in the morning here in LA but then 85 during the day!!

33 Degrees in Northern California in November? That’s highly unusual and a bit disturbing. Oh well, good excuse to curl up with some cider and a good read.

It’s sunny and cold today too in Carmel. Power-walks in the cold are great. Am not a fan of gray days unless can sit by a fire, watch Rom-Coms, eat something terrific from Whole Foods + great wine. Plus watch the French version of Cinderella’s ‘So This is Love.’ Gah. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tfjuc-pLU4

I love days like this, staying all warm and snuggly for a while and then braving the cold. It makes me feel at peace. Have a great day!

Do you usually enjoy a glass or half-glass of wine after your shift? That will warm you up.

At least Dexter can snuggle with you now at home. :-) Have a great weekend!

I love the pumpkin butter + almond butter + hot oats combo – very Autumn! I bet once you get in the sun and start movin’ you’ll warm up. You might want to invest in a pair of spandex running tights though (for both running, walking, cycling, and wearing under jeans!). They can be a god-send during cold weather :-)

I am so jealous of the warm weather!!! Winter is coming in Saskatchewan, and there is nothing I can do to stop it!!

Just bundle up and maybe grab a Starbucks holiday treat–strictly for warmth purposes :)

I love being all bundled up though in the blankets cuddling with my puppy and a good book. So cozy!

Hi Jenna,
I realize how atrociously off-topic this is, but I somehow managed to find your coveted Lindt Fleur de Sel bar in Canada and you couldn’t be more right – every atom of it is perfection! I am visiting my sister in India next month, and I am definitely going to be bringing along a stash for her as well. Thanks for flagging this bar – it may have seemed like indulgence at the time, but I assure you that your unintentionally promoting it was pure altruism!
Glad you had a great visit with your mom and a warm presence in your bed :)

I thought of you as a drove past Healdsburg today on my way home. You’re a lucky girl to live in the heart of the beautiful vineyards.

How fun to have Dexter back!!
I haven’t been in Northern Cali in the winter, so not sure how cold it gets, but wondering if it might be an idea to invest in a North Face jacket? I bought their Metropolitan Parka (3/4 length) 2 weeks ago and even though it hasn’t dropped below freezing yet, I have already got my money’s worth out of it! It’s great b/c (well again, it hasn’t been below freezing, so this may change), I haven’t needed to layer up nearly as much as with my other coat (which is lined, but not ‘North Face’ lined ;) ).

Great attitude about ‘feeling’ like it would be a good day – despite the cold! I’m so sick of crappy weather and it totally affects my mood negatively :(

I read that it was 33 degrees and got so jealous thinking how hot that is. Then I realized you’re not in Canada and you meant farenheit not celsius!!

Time for lots of layers. That’s colder than it was in Boston – I ran outside it a short sleeve shirt earlier today!
You’ll get acclimated though. I spent 3 years living in Houston – that was weather I never got used to – I definitely a New England girl at heart.
