Lunch

Farmer’s Market Adventure

It’s gorgeous outside! I was so excited because I FINALLY got to go to a farmer’s market this morning!!!!!! I dragged Ryan to a saturday morning farmer’s market about 20 minutes away from my apartment and we spent the morning walking, tasting, and basking in the sunlight :). I bought some strawberries and a HUGE beautiful red bell pepper. We also got some grapefruit and “pineapple oranges”–can’t wait to try them!

For lunch we went to a little outdoor cafe and I got a roasted eggplant panini with pesto, tomatoes and mozz. cheese. It was very very VERY tasty and probably not the best for me because of all the oil and cheese. Oh well…it was SO good!!! It came with chips but I only ate like one of them..I’m not a big chip eater. I did eat the entire sandwich though!

We are about to go lay out by the pool for a bit before I have to get ready for work 🙁 See you for dinner!

Jenna, this is not food related, but I know you are into healthy things for your body. What do you do regarding sun tan lotion. I hate putting it on when I go outside b/c it smells so sun tan lotiony but I don’t want skin cancer either. Since you are in florida, I would love to hear what you do.

Wow. I am SO JEALOUS right now—wearing short sleeves and laying out by the pool are nowhere in my near future here in Boston. I can’t wait until the summer for farmers markets!

I know that there has been a lot of talk on this blog about Whole Foods and other healthy grocery stores. I’m finally going to Trader Joe’s for the first time today(so excited!!!!) and I know that there have been lots of posts throughout the blog about great food finds, but if anyone has any specific recommendations of what to try, please let me know!!

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Saturday : )

sarah t: Trader Joe’s recommendations– these are all specifically TJ brand

greek yogurt (their brand is well priced and delish!)
    frozen berries
frozen waffles (their brand is very similar to kashi’s line)
    reduced fat cheese sticks
    whole grain crackers
stock up on granola bars/protein bars…they’re pretty well priced/ variety
trail mix- great combination of seeds, nuts, dried cranberries, raisins, choc.

those are some products that come to mind….hope you have a good time!!

    hope

I too adore trips to the Farmer’s Market – too bad it’s so cold here, and that I’m battling the flu (so I’m stuck in bed, with no appetite), because I would LOVE to go to the market!! So glad oyu were able to enjoy your trip there, as well as a nice lunch :0)

Hey girls! I thought I would put my two cents in on the sunscreen question, since I live in Los Angeles. I highly recommend Oil of Olay (that you can buy at any store) because it is non greasy and it doesn’t smell like sunscreen AT ALL. it is the first thing I put on every day and I haven’t been burned in years! Also, Jenna, I thought the big announcement would be an engagement….I am such a girl!

Just a note about sunblock – I bought Neutrogena ultra sheer dry-touch sunblock in spf 55 last summer and I really liked it. Neutrogena products in general are pretty decent and I think they have an even lighter spray version.

And on another note – I’ve been in London all week on a trip for work (and bought tons of tea!! weeee!!) so I’ve been catching up on your blog today. I love all the statements you made and I enjoy this as a healthy lifestyle blog. Definitely don’t miss the calorie counts and I think your decision to go back to vegetarian is great! Thanks for all you do and keep up the good work!

Jenna or anyone…do you have any good recipe ideas for portabella mushrooms?? I bought 2 bigs ones…maybe in main dish or a side dish???

Alli-I thought it was an engagement announcement too!

Jenna-I was grovery shopping this morning, and I saw an “ugli fruit” I think was the name. I looked like a HUGE deformed lime….I was wondering if you have ever seen/had these? It looked interesting, and I’m all for trying new things, but my first thought was to see if you(or anyone else here!!) had ever tried it!

I love the Aveeno for the Face sunscreen. I put it on every morning after moisturizer and before foundation. It smells sweet and clean and doesn’t get in my eyes. For my body, I use the quick spray stuff that drys quick and doesn’t make my clothes greasy.

    Jenna, you’re gorgeous as usual!

Anna…I live in South Bend/Mishawaka area! I went to Purdue actually for school and went to the Farmers market there right downtown! Oh how I miss it down there! I loved going to school there. Um…there is an all year round farmers market in South Bend. It’s not huge but they have so much to look at and buy!
