Feta Friday, Take Three

Well, kiddos, it’s about that time again. Time for Feta Friday, that is.

ATHENOS-Feta-Fridays-1023x768.jpg

You all know the drill by now. Except this time, I want to hear about the BEST moment of your life. When did you feel your absolute best? Could be your wedding day, the day you graduated college, the day your kids were born or the day you mastered low fat salad dressings. I won’t judge.

I’ll pick a random winner by ten pm PST this evening—go!

The best day of my life is actually kinda strange: it was the day I got into medical school. And then about two hours later on the same day when I decided NOT to go to medical school. I had worked four years straight studying my butt off to go to med school, but had never really stepped back and asked myself if I even wanted to be a doctor. Well, it turns out I didn’t. I was able to let that go and move forward. I got married, moved across the country, and am pursing things that I actually want to do! SO so so so happy!

It has to be the day I graduated. It never sunk in until the actual convocation ceremony, but seeing my parents there (cheering really embarassingly loud for me), brought the biggest amount of joy I had ever experienced. I made my parents truly proud (to the point where my mom was in tears), and that is a feeling that can never be replaced. They have invested so much of their money and time to put me through school, and the fact that I respected this and successfully graduated from University with honours was a proud moment for everyone, especially myself. 🙂

The best day of my life is kind of hard to pin down. My wedding day was awesome, but in the year and a half since my wedding I feel like my husband and I know each other even more and love each other even more, so it’s hard not to see one of our normal around-the-house, laughing together days as even better than the wedding day. So I’m going with that. The week after we moved into our new house we had days together of just us, doing stuff, shopping for furniture, laughing together. I loved it!

In that moment, I saw the beauty life that was created out of love between my husband and I, I feel deeper in love with my husband, and was utterly amazed that my body had nutured that life. The best moment of my life will probably be this weekend when my husband and I will finally be able to have a weekend to ourselves after almost two months of living with our parents – urgghh. That’s right, we are a 24-25 year old couple, married for 4 years and we are living with our parents. This weekend will be full of peace and quiet, fun and laughter, and lots of make up sex – 2 months is a long time to be living with family and returning back to your shoe box of a childhood bedroom. And the summer isn’t even over yet, blah, 4 o’clock can’t come fast enough 🙂

The day I realized I had conquered my fear of flying. I got on a plane to fly across the country (as I did several times a year to visit family), sat down, opened a magazine and it wasn’t until we had been in the air for 20 minutes that I realized I was able to sleep the night before, there was no throwing up in the airport bathroom, there was no Xanax – just me, my magazine and my oddly calm nerves. I had been flying for over 10 years, hating every second of it and had worked hard to overcome it. It was a huge moment for me… A very powerful inner confidence erupted from that. 😉

It is too close to call between the day I got married, and the day we got engaged. Obviously my wedding day was incredible for so many reasons, but the day we got engaged was so wonderful too. We had planned to fly to Seattle just for a day (something we never never do), to see a baseball game. Our favorite team was playing against the Mariners. He had a surprise plan as well, and led me to this amazing old theater. He had set it up for us to get in when they were closed and be the only ones in the huge and beautiful auditorium. That’s where he proposed!!! I had been waiting for quite awhile, and was so incredibly happy!

The best day of my life, now that’s easy! It was definitely the first day of my husband and I’s honeymoon 🙂
It was the second marriage for both of us, but it was the first time either of us had been out of the country. There was something so exciting about sharing that experience together, when so many of the other marriage “firsts” were lost to our relationship through our first marriages. We truly felt like we were embarking on a lifelong journey of love & discovery together. In fact, that honeymoon was such a special day for both of us that we have gone back each and every year since to the same beach on the same island! <3

This may sound completely corny, but right now is my best moment. I’m tired from not sleeping well. I’m uncomfortable from the heat and my protruding belly. But I feel my precious L Bean kicking away at my insides, and that is the BEST. My husband kissed me goodbye this morning. Then his leaned down and kissed my belly goodbye. Both moments still give me goose bumps because they were filled with such complete and utter joy.

one of the best momemts I ever had was when I was in the midst of losing weight. I went to the store to buy jeans and I got into a size 8. When I started the journey I was in a tight twelve and it was to much for me because I am pretty short. So that was the best feeling. I did a dance in the dressing room and then cried a little. LOL

Definitely one of the best moments of my life was when I finished my most recent semester at school with the best GPA I’ve ever busted my behind for. I encountered SO many setbacks throughout the semester, including mono, and still persevered! I’m still so proud of myself for sticking through it all.

I’m echoing some others here but my wedding day was absolutely amazing. Even though I was sick (had to get an emergency Z-Pack that morning…boo) and it was the coldest, rainiest day of the entire month I got to marry my best friend and love of my life. That moment when the church doors opened and I saw my husband standing there at the alter waiting for me is something I will never forget.

While I’m not sure that I can pick just one best moment of my whole life, I can tell you about the best moment I’ve experienced recently! Last week I hit my lowest weight since high school. Though I’m still not at my goal weight, this was a huge achievement for me and I am so thrilled because not only is the scale moving in the right direction, but I’m filling self-confident and strong and proud of myself for all my hard work. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Definitely, the best day of my life so far was the day that I graduated college. I had moved away from my family (out of state) when I was 17, and the whole family actually came up to visit me for the first time (after 6 years)! It felt so good having everyone there and celebrating my hard work, and so good to feel like all those years of effort – working full time and going to school full time while rocking an internship and volunteering really paid off. I really don’t think I’ve felt as special since – but I know the time will come again!

    THe day Abbi turned one.

She was still alive. I was still alive. I no longer felt the fog of my post baby yuck, and the stress of her birth was a year behind me. Dan and I had moved closer to family and she (Abbi) was so happy. She was still so tiny (only 17 pounds) bu so happy. We had a huge party. She is loved. We loved her and each other. The Lord was still there! 🙂

XOXO little sis. Please don’t pick me. I hate feta cheese. I just loved this question and I love you!! XOXO Big sis.

That’s a hard one! One of my best days was Christmas a few years ago. It was the first one after my parents divorced, and I made Christmas dinner all by myself. I had a great morning with my dad, had an early dinner with my best friend and her family and then when my mom and her new husband got in late that night we had my dinner. It was a good yet bittersweet day. It showed me that I had truly grown up and everything would be okay despite my parents no longer being together.

The best moment of my life has to be the day my husband proposed to me. It was totally unexpected at that moment…I had been home sick for a couple of days and he insisted on taking me out to dinner for my birthday. I wasn’t really feeling it, but he was so determined to get me out of the house. So, I beautified my red nose and eyes the best I could and went out for a romantic dinner. It ended up being the most fabulous evening of my life!

I would have to say the best day of my life has to be on my 30th birthday. My husband and I were sitting on a beach in Mexico sipping on Mojitos and 3:00 p.m. rolled around and it was then that I suddenly realized it WAS my birthday. The beach and the ocean (and possibly the mojitos) made me forget right up until that very moment.

My favorite moment is really a collection of moments and all have to do with my husband Roman. Our first couple of months together were spent learning about each other, wanting to know everything, not wanting to be apart. Then moving to Thailand and navigating foreign lands and foods as we traveled to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bali and learned even more about each other. To now, where we have a rhythm and a deep understanding of each other. While having a mate isn’t the most important thing for some people, for me, while I work on my Master’s and become professionally the person I want to be, it is an amazing feeling to know we are sharing a life and rooting each other on all the way while still having grand adventures.

Hmm this is hard for me to pin down, I’ve got it tied between two:
    1) The day I moved to Montreal. I had literally just graduated from university the day before and the next day I was starting my dream job in marketing. It was the end and beginning of two big chapters of my life 🙂

The best moment of my life when when I was studying abroad in Italy this past fall. Do you know when you are looking at something beautiful, whether it be nature, a historic building, or simply a pretty sunset — and you are overcome with how pretty it is that you just feel like crying (or is that just crazy old me that that happens to?? ;)) Well, I pretty much felt like that every day when I was there. It was amazing!

This is going to sound odd, but the best day of my life was the day I finished my first half marathon. I am not an athlete, but I joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program figuring it would help me accomplish such an unthinkable goal. Along the way I raised a few thousand dollars towards research for a cure, and met some of the most inspiring people. One of my teammates was doing the race in celebration of his 20th anniversary of being diagnosed with leukemia – he’s done 15 other races with TNT in the intervening years AND had 3 subsequent cancers as a result of the treatments they gave him to cure him the first time 20 years ago. The entire season changed my life, but something about crossing that line on my own that day really put the seal on the change: I can do anything. And I can help others while doing it. What could be better than that?

The memory that brought the most joy to my life was when I met my father for the first time but not for the reason you would think. I was 13 – flew by myself to met a complete stranger (my parents divorced when I was 6 months old). On the second day of the visit my grandfather came and picked me up from my “fathers” house.

The man who donated his sperm to my existence had no interest in getting to know me or be part of my future – he was very consumed and satisfied with his new life and other children. That was the day when 13 years of wondering what he was like and if he missed me or loved me was all answered. We have not spoke since. On my 21 birthday he sent me $100, his only financial contribution to my entire life. That trip was the closure I needed, It would be awful to still wonder day in and day out if I hold any value in his life. I have been able to move on and let go. I will always see him as my biological father but he will never be a “dad” in my eyes.
    🙂 Good question…

I felt my absolute best when I finished my first half-marathon in December 2009. I could not run a mile when I started training with Team Challenge in August 2009 and ran the entire 13.1 miles in Las Vegas on behalf of my husband who has battled Crohn’s disease for over a decade. It was such a decisive moment in my life: we had been going through an extraordinarily difficult time and raising over $4200 while running the half not only changed my life and my body but transformed our relationship as well. I will never, ever forget that moment of crossing the finish line with tears in my eyes!

the best moment of my life was the decision to study abroad in spain for an entire year. i can say that now because i had the BEST time ever and learned so much about myself and errr had an amazing time (year of basically not going to classes, what? haha). however, the summer before leaving i was a nervous wreck and i am SURE not that much fun to be around…;-)

Probably the day my dad forgave me. Quite personal topic – but I was very rebellious in my early 20’s and it destroyed the amazing relationship I had with my parent’s. In 2006 my grandmother passed away, and the night before she died my dad and I were sitting on the foot of her bed. My dad was tearing up, and he said he wished he didn’t love me because I hurt him so much, but then he said he just couldn’t help it. He told me that everything I had done and was going to do, he forgave. And he knew that eventually I would turn my life around.

The best day of my life was not that long ago. It was my last day at a social work job that I hated and had drained me for almost five years. Now I’m re-evaluating my career path and thinking about going back to get my masters in a different field. This was my best day because I made a decision to benefit myself and make me happy, no one else.

The best day was one day on our honeymoon in Hawaii. We spent a few days on the big island. We hiked through Volcano National Park all day, then came back, got thai takeout, and went back to our cottage in the middle of the rainforest, and ate dinner and drank wine in front of a fire. It felt so amazing to be in such a secluded, incredible place with my best friend and new husband.

I am choking up reading all of these comments, wow! We are a lucky bunch to have experienced such wonderful things.
There are a lot of favorite days, but one I remember so vividly is the first night I met my boyfriend. I smiled at him, he smiled at me and that was all it took. We talked for hours and soon after had our first date. 6 years later, we’ve bought a house together and are deeper in love than ever.
Also, I really cherish the day my little sister was born. I was 4 1/2 years old but remember feeling so elated when I got to hold her. It was like – ‘at long last, here we are. Pleased to meet you.’

Absolutely my wedding day!! Everything went so perfectly, it was amazing. Throughout the afternoon and evening, multiple people from both sides of the family came up and asked me, “So… was it everything you dreamed?” And each time I replied, “Yes.. and sooo much more. It could not have been a better day”. We had a beautiful ceremony on the beach, chicken and pulled pork for dinner, dancing bare feet in the grass, fireworks, and watching the sunset. Best day ever!

The best moment in my life was when I met my future husband in May 1997. We were at a dance in high school and he was sitting by himself across the room, refusing to dance with anyone! I went up to him to talk and even though he wouldn’t dance with me, I knew at that very moment he would be my “partner in crime” for the rest of my life. We’ve been together ever since and I’ve introduced him to so many things, including feta cheese and have even shown him some moves on the dance floor!

I can’t really say I’ve had a “best day of my life” yet (I’m only 23…that’s ok, right?), especially considering the last 5 years (+ continuing) have been an uphill battle with school and personal life. BUT, I live on a lake at home, so any day I’m home and can sit outside and enjoy looking at or being on the water, forgetting about everything else going, on is a great day in my book 🙂

My husband I got married 2 months ago; it was a great day, a was fantastic day, a highly emotional day but not the best moment of my life. I would say the moment/conversation we had a couple of months before we got engaged when WE decided we were going to get married that was the best moment. I feel we began walking down the same path together then, 10 month before we were official married.

It was the day I got into college. Well, the college I attended. I had gotten in a couple of other places, but I wasn’t thrilled. And I had gotten rejected from the school. So I cried for a while, and then I heard you could appeal. So I wrote a letter to the admissions department explaining why I wanted to go to school, and what I planned to do if I was given the opportunity. I got a call a few days later welcoming me open arms to school, I was told that I was just slightly above the average of people who usually accepted, so they had rejected me because of that, but if I was interested they’d have me. So I jumped up and down and screamed. It was definitely the day I learned that its always worth fighting for something if you really believe in it.

Someone else above said their best day was the day they got into medical school and realized that they didn’t want to go. For me, the best day was a couple days before my undergrad graduation (BA in International Relations!) when I decided that I did not want to work for the Peace Corp or Foreign Service, but instead wanted to become a doctor. That was the day that I figured out how to map out the next seven years of my life, the amount of debt I would incur, and how many family events I was going to miss. But really, I realized that day that following a dream is worth everything you can give it. If it isn’t, then you are chasing the wrong dream.

the best “moment” of my life has actually been a series of moments this year: buying my very first house, finishing a low residency program and graduating with my mfa, getting a promotion at work (and my own office!!), finishing my first half-marathon, completing puppy training (trust me, this was hard-fought!), finally finishing a manuscript, publishing a chapbook, and last but not least – getting engaged; something i didn’t think would ever happen again after my divorce.

it’s been an amazing year in self discovery, bravery, love, independence, trust, hope and faith – a surprising series of moments.

Wow this is such a difficult question. I feel like my “best moment” was realizing that I am okay on my own. I moved 500 miles from my family for a job that I took on a whim. I interviewed, got an offer, and moved all within 2 weeks! And I have grown within the company, love my corporate job (hate working for “the man”), and know that I still have my family behind me…just not literally! I can take care of myself just fine, and am happy being on my own! I have learned to embrace it, and use this time to learn as much as I can about myself, and what I want out of life!

My first independent scuba diving experience. I can’t imagine a better experience than drifting from the Bells to the Blue Hole (Dahab, Egypt) and watching as the sea life floats by! I was at peace with the world and in my life.

I think my “best days” are in the future, but I am looking forward to the day I get into law school, which hopefully will be very soon! Until then, I finally made the kale chips you mentioned a longgggg time ago, and tasting such a delicious alternative to chips definitely qualified as a great, great day.

I haven’t graduated college yet or gotten married so I really don’t know what the best day or moment of my life was but last year I visited my best friend in Texas (I live in California) and I just had the BEST week. I was free to be myself completely while being understood, laugh until I cried, eat amazing food, see a ridiculously fun concert, meet nice people, etc. I wish my “real” life was like that!

The day I received my acceptance into my dream college was a good moment. I don’t have a ton of self confidence, so I never thought I would be accepted. I called my mom afterward and I was crying so uncontrollably that she thought something BAD had happened.

Also every moment of falling in love with my college sweetheart was pretty spectacular.

My best life moment is everytime I get to hear my mother’s voice. She is 93 and lives in NY. I live in KC so we don’t see each other as much as I would like therefore, I call her every day just to say “I love you mom”

Can a two-week adventure be my best “moment”? I actually had a very stressful wedding day (add buying a condo into the weeks leading up to the wedding!) and when my new husband and I boarded that train for our honeymoon was the beginning of the most wonderful time of my life. We had an absolute blast and have so many wonderful memories.

If I really had to pick ONE moment, it was the time I jumped out a perfectly good plane. We somersaulted out of the door so I got to see the bottom of the plane and then freefell… it was awesome! And then I almost puked on the instructor while floating down. Almost.

My best moments were when I finished my first half Ironman and when I finished my first trail half marathon. The Ironman was the hardest thing I had ever done, but it was the greatest feeling! Knowing that I had accomplished something that big all on my own. The trail half marathon was my 7-8th half that I had done, but it was gruelling. There was a two mile climb up a mountain in the middle… and there were many moments when I thought that I couldn’t keep running. But I did and it so worth it in the end!

The best day of my life, which happened to be the one of the most embarrassing days, is the day that I got together with my now husband. I haven’t had a best moment…God, I hope there is one coming…

I think there are a series of small moments, enlightenments and set-backs in life…the “best” moment for me would be any that let me feel at peace.

Just at peace and happy. Like walking downtown in a different city by myself and stopping at a farmer’s market for fresh fruit and banana bread.

Maybe it’s kinda boring but I think the best moment of my life is this one drive back from the beach I did with my BF a few years ago. It wasn’t anything really special. One of my best moments was when I was able to attend the Dalai Lama’s teaching in Dharmasala and get to touch his hand. It wasn’t so much being able to physically touch him, but to be in the presence of someone who embodied pure love and compassion. It gave me the foundation to believe that it’s possible for all of us to achieve equanimity and wisdom as well.

The day I won my college’s top honor. I spent my freshman year as a recluse; never got involved in activities, didn’t try to go out and make friends… all I wanted to do was go home on the weekends and see my boyfriend. When we broke up at the beginning of my sophomore year, I joined every activity I could to take my mind off of him. I ended up joining some of the best groups on campus and meeting people that would change my life forever. It all culminated in my final year of school, when I received the top award for academics, involvement, and service in the collegiate and greater community. The whole process was more rewarding than I can truly express.

Oh wow. I think the best moment of my life was actually when I ran my first half-marathon at mile 12. It that exact moment I realized that I have run farther, continuously and without stopping once, than I ever have in my entire life–probably more than in an entire week. It was farther than any of my training and it was only a mere mile until the finish. I felt unstoppable. I felt accomplished. I truly felt like it was a turning point to being a new person. And I felt all that while I felt numb and dead, too (hey, 12 miles is a lot). 🙂

One of the best moments of my life happened just recently. Even though I have been blessed with the life I live and friends and family, I have been going through a very difficult depression. I have reached out for support from loved ones and in the end I am in better place and not to sound egotistical I know it has been mostly my doing. The best moment was not overcoming my depression, it was realizing I helped myself and that I am a strong person that there is nothing I can’t accomplish if I put my mind to it. If you let people in and do things that are good for you and your soul your life will be so much better.

My best life moment has been finishing the Komen 3-Day 60-mile 3-Day walks. It’s so empowering to have walked 60 miles for breast cancer with over 2,000 people and being cheered on by people you pass along the walk and to have raised so much money for the cause. Yet I stayed at the camp and worked the entire summer(they hired a junior counselor to assist with hikes, rock climbing and other activities I couldn’t be part of). My parents relocated from our hometown to Denver the following January, and my husband and I, as well as my sister, brother-in-law, and brother are often busy with our own lives. I’m going to skip the obvious, wedding and children’s birth, and go for the very first time in my life that I felt at my best! That would be the day I graduated high school…I was on top of the world. I was the first person in my family to finish high school and I had accomplished through remarkable odds. Then I married, and had three amazing (yet sometimes annoying, ha) children. Which are the light of my being! My next great moment will be when I walk across the stage in a few years being the only person in my family to graduate from college!

Many, but if choose one, when I lived on the beach in Santa Barbara and my son came home from school for Christmas. I had a roast in the oven, had made his favorite carrot cake (Silver Palate Cookbook recipe–very good–but I augment and even better). December SB sunsets are incredible. We went over to the deserted beach with our sheltie, Ladd. The water was a sheet of shimmering purple out to Anacapa. One lone star shined like silver in a sky of whipped pink, purple, and azure blues. A battered old white top-heavy fishing tug was rocking its way into the harbor trailed by seagulls, pelicans and dolphins. We didn’t say anything–both of us knew this was the birthday of his deceased father/my true love and we were thinking about that. But it was a moment of unforgettable peace, beauty and love. One I’d wish to live with in eternity.

My BEST was pretty recently, actually. I was on my way home from my boyfriend’s house…we had just gotten into an argument, I was stuck in traffic, and it was raining- a pretty crappy afternoon. I was sitting at a stop light with my hand out the window and I said to myself “you know, it’s okay”. It really is okay. It doesn’t matter if it’s raining or there’s traffic or it’s Sunday and you have to go to work tomorrow- it’s okay. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t thinking about financial issues, relationship troubles, work problems, or anything else…I was just there. I just was. That day, I realized that life is about so much more than work or money or working out or food or blogging…it’s about SO much more. And no matter what, it’s okay (:

I called my mancakes after this epiphany and apologized for the argument. I told him about everything I’d just realized and he said, “Well, yeah Shelby, it’s about time you figure all of this out. I’ve been waiting for you, love.” Totally awesome. Just awesome. I’m definitely smiling big time as I share this. I know it’s not a huge event- a marriage or child or graduation- but it is an outstanding turning point in my life.

The minute we signed papers for our home in TN. I have lived in 7 states, in 36 communities, went to 12 schools in my life. When we retired to TN, it felt the most permenant in my life–and 10 years later, it is same home, same house, same community, same house.

It would have to be the day I traveled to Cinque Terre in Italy. It may be lacking on a momentous life occasion and it has no sappy story, but I spent the entire day hiking along the Mediterranean ocean between the 5 villages and it was the most beautiful place on earth and the best day of my life.

The best day of my life was the last day of a leadership retreat for a bunch of college students that I had been planning for 9 months. It was the hardest most stressful 9 months of my life and the whole week was exhausting. But when I got to see the impact the retreat had on those students it was all worth it and I actually broke down in tears. That was also the moment that determined my current career path.

The best moment I have had thus far is one that most would see as a nightmare. After 3 years of law school and studying my face off for the bar exam, I found out that I had not passed by the tiniest of margins. It could have been traumatic but, I think that there are very few moments in life where God really shows us that He has other plans for us and our lives. I was disappointed but I was really honestly secure in knowing that God had a better plan for me and it was going to be bigger and better than I could have even imagined. So far, every day since then has truly been bigger and better than I ever thought possible.

Too hard to choose just one, but I loved walking on the moors near the Bronte home in northern England with my husband. The weather was cloudy and misty (perfect for feeling like I was in a Bronte novel), and we saw dilapidated houses and lambs with black feet. The views of the surrounding countryside were splendid!

I’m not married, and I don’t have kids. My best day was when I got my dog. When I was 5 I had been begging for a dog. One day, during Christmas, my parents took me to the mall to see Santa. When Santa asked what I wanted I had said a puppy, of course. He told me to close my eyes real tight. When I opened them there in my arms was a little shi tzu puppy. I named her Molly and had her for 11 years. <3

The best moment of my life happened…YESTERDAY! I graduated nursing school in May and have been waiting to take my NCLEX (test to be a real registered nurse with a license) all summer. I finally took the test and thought I bombed it after, called my mom crying and everything. I went to the beach with my best friend and her mom for two days just to keep myself busy while I waited on the results. At 3:00 yesterday, I left the two of them on the beach while I went up to the room to check my NCLEX status online…PASS! I am officially a REGISTERED NURSE NOW! YAY 🙂

Such a very hard question Jenna! I have the normal best days, My Wedding, the births of my 2 children, when my kids graduated from high school, when they call to ask my advice, my last day of radiation, my last day of IV chemo (both times), The day I was told I was in remission from my cancer…again! But I think I will say the day I quit my job to stay home and relax and take care of myself for a change! It has been difficult financially, but I never felt better than that first month after quitting my job! It has been 2 and a half years now and I don’t regret it one bit!

A couple of years ago my boyfriend and I summit Mt Washington (NH) during winter. Although fairly short, it’s a tough mountain due to its very extreme weather. The whole climb took us about 12 hours, hiking with crampons, axes, goggles, etc. At times the winds were so strong I was nearly blown over, and we took a wrong turn that could have had a very dire ending had we not have consulted the GPS. After we finally got off the mountain and to the nearest bar I think I called everyone I knew to let them know what we had just accomplished. I felt like I could do anything after that!

I have had soo many best days, but I would have to say the day my son was born. I was super worried about several things during my pregnancy because I had a blood clot and was taking blood thinner shots twice/day until he was born. I was so worried about the side effects that the medicine would have on my unborn son at the time. When I finally got to hold him in my arms and see how beautiful he was, was the most rewarding and peaceful day I had had in the previous 9 months. 🙂

The look on her face as I walked across that stage will be something I cherish forever. My best life moment has to be the day my fiance proposed. Not just because we were finally getting married (after dating for 8 years) but because I was so overcome with happiness and a sense of serenity that I hadn’t felt before. He totally blew me away with how much thought and detail he went into in planning the proposal and he was thoughtful enough to include all my friends and family too. It took me 3 days to come down from that high and actually sleep!

It was close to a year after I had left my hometown and moved to Arizona. Some friends and I had taken a road trip to Mexico, and as I sat on the beach a certain song came on my I-Pod. With that song on, sitting on the beach and looking at the water, it hit me then and there that I could not have made a better choice to move and try out a new adventure in life. So far in life, the best moment for me was graduating college.
College was very hard for me, my parents were going through a nasty divorce (and yes, it took about 4 years) where my dad stalked my mom, my mom was having medical problems, I was working part-time, I never knew if I could afford to attend the following semester, and I was my mom’s emotional caretaker during this time.
When I graduated, I felt SO proud of myself that I had overcome all that CRAP. I literally cried walking down from getting my fake degree.

Right now, the best moment I remember feeling was when I was running the NYC Half Marathon. I felt great and during the middle of it, I almost started crying! But, in a good way. I couldn’t believe how much I had accomplished and how hard I had for this day. I was so overwhelmed, I could’ve started bawling in the middle of that race! It was crazy, but it was one of the most amazing feelings I’ve ever felt.

The absolute best day of my life (thus far) was the day I completed my 2 year Peace Corps service. I returned back to the US on Nov 20, 2009 and had this unbelievable wave of emotions going through my body the entire day. I was extremely proud of the good, bad and ugly experiences that I endured while serving in the Dominican Republic as a Health Educator. I was also stoked about returning to AMERICA and meeting my new nephew and reconnecting with friends and family that I had only communicated with a handful of times in 27 months (and let’s face it, I was looking forward to eating all the yummy food I missed- swiss cheese, jalapenos and cheesecake!).

My best day would have to be when I was studying abroad. There were many days while studying abroad that were amazing, but one definitely stands out. I was visiting Amsterdam, with my feet in the wading pool staring at the IAMSTERDAM sign. Nothing particularly exciting was happening, but I realized that at that moment I was doing EXACTLY what I should be doing and there was absolutely no other place I’d rather be. I wasn’t thinking about the past, or the future but was so content and happy in the present moment. That’s a feeling I’d like to feel always.

The absolute best day of my life was my wedding day. It was the last time everyone in my family was together (we’ve had some deaths and illnesses since then) and there was just a magical feeling in the air that no other event that I can remember has quite recaptured. The births of my two children come in close second, but there is just something about 36 and 31 hours of labor (respectively) that kind of takes the edge off of that magical feeling!

I’ve had so many different “amazing moments” in my life, it’s really hard to narrow it down.
But to be honest … here’s mine. It seems so simple, such a throwaway moment, and in the actual moment, it was actually a lot of stress, but last summer, I was in Thailand for 7 weeks with my best friend. We were getting ready to fly from Bangkok to Phuket but because of an internet glitch, I ended up on a flight the night before her flight, and we absolutely could not change the arrangements, no matter how hard we tried. So for the first time in my life, I was completely on my own in a foreign country where I absolutely did not speak the language, and I was flying in late at night, to arrive at my hostel well past midnight.
I’ll never forget stepping off the plane in Phuket and feeling a crazed rush. Here I am, alone, in Phuket of all places, grabbing my bag off the luggage conveyor belt like it ain’t no thang, like I do this all the time. Phuket! And me! Alone! Independent! I love the mystery of de-planing in a new place, where you have no idea what to expect once you walk out the doors of the airport, and this was my first time absolutely on my own. I just kept thinking, “I’ll never be able to tell my parents about this. This is how girls get kidnapped and killed in the movies and on Law and Order. That’s how it works. The unit splits up and you aren’t honest about your plans, and you die.” But I didn’t die. I spent my first night in a real and serious hardcore cheap ass traveler’s hostel that night. “Welcome to the rest of my life,” I guess.
In that moment, I knew I never wanted to stop exploring. I want to get on every plane and go everywhere and experience that same mystery and fire everywhere I possibly can.

For me it was three days after I moved to Miami. I jumped in with both feet, put everything I owned into a U-haul at hooked my car to the back and took the plunge. I moved to Miami without a job, without a place to live and without knowing anyone! I was literally thousands of miles from home. Three days later, I had already moved into an apartment and had a great job. I pulled it off! I couldn’t believe it fell together so quickly and so right. It was the most AMAZING feeling.

I was traveling with a girlfriend through Europe over Christmas vacation 2008-2009. We were in Florence, Italy and spent the day horseback riding in Tuscany, drinking wine and THE BEST gnocchi I have ever, ever, ever had! We spent the night laughing and drinking wine and eating pasta in a small, hole-in-the-wall joint just down the street from our hotel. It was just one of those days I will remember forever!

Graduating college Summa Cum Laude has been the best moment of my life thus far. But I’d imagine my future wedding day and future child’s day of birth would far surpass that feeling!

My husband was run over by a car as a pedestrian in 2007 and was in a coma for several weeks. They didn’t think he’d survive and if he did he wouldn’t have any language. When he awoke from the coma, recognized me and reached for my hand…that was the best moment of my life. And he made a miraculous recovery. You’d never know he was in such a terrible accident, had brain surgery and was in a coma. And I swear, I’m not making this up!

my dad and i went on a long bike ride at the beach, past all the houses where we used to stay when i was younger. i don’t know if it was the endorphins from the exercise or reminiscing with the padre that just got me in a top-notch happy place 🙂

Tie between the day I finished my Master’s degree, and anytime I get to spend time with my whole fam. My husband and I live far away from our parents, so those times aren’t as often as we’d like — but they’re super special every time!

That is SO HARD! The BEST??? Hmmm, probably a day spent in Tahoe on the beach with my family. Or maybe my college graduation – it was so wonderful to see my parents so proud of what I’d accomplished with their help. My success was really their success, so graduating with honors was the best gift I could have given them.

The most recent best moment of my life was when my fiance proposed to me. 6am, just woke up, no makeup on, hair a mess, and just the two of us. We took a picture of it for us to remember, but that picture will never be seen by anyone else!! I was the happiest girl on earth!

What a great question. The best moment of my life would be standing up as my best friend’s maid of honor. We have been through so much together and her wedding was shortly after her father’s death. It felt so great to be there to support her on such an important day.

This is cheesy and not that earth shattering…but 7 years ago I met a guy through my cousin. He was nice and cute and smart and even though I just met him I felt like I had known him forever. We saw each other off and on every time I visited my cousin and her boyfriend (he lived in Ventura and I lived in San Diego, CA.) We always had a good time together, but he always had a girlfriend and I was always really shy, plus we lived 2.5 hours apart and I felt that my 21 years old was WAY too much younger than his 25 years old. Two years after we met we were in the bridal party at my cousin’s wedding. He was finally single and I was slightly less shy. We hung out all night, but when I was saying goodbye my dad decided to go mess around and embarrass his 23 year old daughter. Thanks dad. I just said goodnight and left. The next day I was talking to my friend on the phone when I got another call…an 805 area code. I knew exactly who it was. I got so excited I did a little run around my room and jumped onto my bed. lol! I never even said bye to my friend, hahaha! I took the call sounding completely calm and sure enough it was Brian. He had gotten my number from my cousin while she was in the airport waiting to leave on her honeymoon. We had our first date that weekend, and I’m writing this from the kitchen of our house right now, with our two dogs asleep on the floor. Best day ever.

Realizing that I can wear the same size pants I wore my freshman year of high school! I started becoming really overweight my junior year of high school, it’s 8 years later and I’ve spent the last 7 months working hard to lose weight and I’ve lost nearly 40 lbs! It’s so exciting, I can run around now without getting super winded or feeling like I am going to collapse under my own weight.

By the way Jenna, when I am starting to feel down about life in general or I get bored with my food, your blog inspires me to mix things up. =)

Hmmmm, well seeing as how I’m only 23 and don’t have any proposal or wedding day stories yet…. a couple of the best moments in my life stand out – the day i got accepted into pharmacy school, specific parts of my trip to europe last summer, and my best friend’s wedding (which led to a few dates of my own).

The best day of my life happened the first time (of 3) that I lived in Spain. I moved there with no plans and barely understood the language. I found a place and a school and dove in. I didn’t understand anything for months. Then, one day, something in my brain just clicked. I understood everything people around me said. It was amazing, and the most accomplished and satisfied I have ever felt. Everyone told me I was crazy to quit school and move to a foreign country so that I could really study and learn what I wanted to, but it was the best decision I ever made!

Having a clean slate! Best moment would be when I moved to my new town and I had 2 weeks to explore, put together my apartment, and get ready to start my first job. It was the excitement of starting my “new life” and being really on my own. Sometimes having a blank, clean slate is the best feeling!

I have two *best* moment. The first one was my first kiss. The guy made it super perfect and romantic. Hammock under the stars…Common!!! And my other one is right after my last exam of college. After high school, I had struggled a lot: gone to university and dropped out, then worked at Wendy’s (I know..so lame), and then I went to college and it was a great two years and right after my last exam my friends were waiting for me with presents and I felt so proud of myself.

    Hi Jenna,

The best moment of my life has to have been when I finished my first (and only, thus far!) half-marathon last year.
