Dinner/ Lunch

First Timers

Sorry for the late post! I had my first frantic pet owner dilemma today!!

Ryan and I went out to lunch and when we got back, Dexter was no where to be found. We searched the apartment up and down! Then, I heard some mewing from what seemed to be in the walls of the kitchen. Turns out, little Dex had somehow gotten in a small hole underneath a kitchen cabinet and was stuck in the walls of the kitchen!!!!!!!!!!  We were frantic. My mom came over and for over an hour we tried to pull Dexter out. No such luck. Ryan had to actually take apart the cabinets to squeeze the furball out. It was quite a scene. Regardless, Dexter and I are safely back in Orlando and he seems to like his new surroundings. I put his bed up next to a big window and he loves staring out at the lake below. Kitty heaven! Hopefully I don’t have any small holes he can wedge himself in like earlier…

He sure is a curious kitty!!

Back to lunch—Ryan and I went out for “healthy” fast food at Evo’s. I got a soy burger and air fries (fries that are baked in a special oven, not fried) with spicy ketchup. It was quite tasty but I have to admit, something weird is going on in my system because my appetite is not what it usually is. I just have an overall queasy feeling. Hopefully after a good night’s sleep tonight I will feel better for the upcoming busy week.

After getting Dexter out I snacked on some peanut butter puffins while packing up everything and getting ready to hit the road. I wasn’t really “hungry”….I just wanted something. One of those moments.

When I got back to Orlando, I just heated up some leftover dal with a whole wheat pita and a spinach salad for dinner. Again, I really wasn’t that hungry! What’s wrong with me?! I just went grocery shopping though and am about to bake some more Super-Charge Me cookies to take with me for snacks at school this week. I’m pretty sure I’ll be asleep by 10:00 tonight….or at least I hope!!

Aww, poor Dexter!! I love cats, that made me sad.

Is it just you and Dexter or are you planning on getting another roommate?

Oh no!! Haha, well at least little Dexter made it out okay – gotta keep an eye on little ones!! :0)

Oooh, Evo’s sounds like a fun, quick-service restaurant; and your leftover Dal looks great!!

Yeah, I haven’t been that hungry lately either (as I told you earlier) – I think it’s the weather, stress, etc. Get enough rest tonight, girl!!

    Nat,

Its just Dex and I….I’m moving back to Tampa in September so there’s really no point in finding another roommate for the short time I’ll be here!

Aren’t pets fun? They so quickly find the holes you never knew existed…I’ve had more than one experience like that, and then they usually come strolling up with that innocent look as your near tears…Glad you got him out safely though! I’m sure he’ll be too big soon to do that again!

heh, “air fries.” it’s like pantomiming eating fries.

your inquisitive kitty is adorable! once, about 4 years ago, i came home and my dog was nowhere to be seen. after searching the apartment, i heard whimpering coming from a window. he had nosed the window up and wriggled out onto the roof, and then couldn’t get back in.

I am sorry for your panic, but I also have to laugh because my crazy cat did something similar: squeezed himself in a loose flap of plastic at the bottom of the DISHWASHER!!! We have no idea how he did this or how the thing even got loose, but like you, he was lost and we heard mewing. We eventually tracked him to the kitchen and then the dishwasher! Serveral hours later, he was free and we were left to figure out how to avoid it happening again. Crazy cats!

Are you pregnant Jenna?!?! Hee hee…..

Love this kitty. We had got a kitten many years ago and when were were on our way back to the house right after we stopped to pick it up we ran through the drive through at Whataburger. Well, the kitten crawled up underneath the dashboard and managed to get up inside the interworkings of the car. My mom was freaking out (I was like 9 or so) because she wasn’t sure if the cat could get it’s head cut off in the motor or something. We had to stop and turn of the car in the line because we didn’t know what to do. Turns out there is a firewall that prevents the cat from making it to the motor. My dad’s friend had to take off the whole from dashboard to get the cat out. It was crazy.

Haha, I just googled Evos because it looked so cool! I wish they had it in the northeast, too!

(VTgirl, it’s in Tampa, NC, CA, GA…looks like maybe a new chain out of Tampa.)

Ooo, I love Indian food. I wish it would take off more in the US.

Jenna, I was thinking about how you met Ryan in the elevator. It totally reminds me of the Nanny Diaries (movie/book). Very cute!

It sounds like Dexter gave you a scare! When my husband and I first got our kitti, we had her in a spare room so her new roommate could get used to having another cat in the house. We didn’t have a grate over the furnace and I asked my husband if he thought she would fit and he said no and that very same instant she started crawling up it! I had to pull her out by her tail, desperate times call for desperate measures. If there is a small space they will find it. I hope you enjoy your new “roomie”!

    Hey Jenna,
I started my own food blog to serve as an alternative genre requirement that goes along with a research paper. I added you to my links, just wanted to make sure that was ok! Hope you have a great week!

Poor Dexter and poor you! I would be freaking out! haha.

When I have so much going on I tend to lose my appetite, especially if I am missing out on a ton of sleep like you have been.

I hope you do get to sleep at 10 tonight!

Isn’t it amazing how cats do that sort of thing? So catty of them!

Hope you feel better! I’m sure those cookies will help!

I once lost a hamster in my kitchen cupboards…to this day I have no idea how he escaped. He was probably a little harder to find than your kitty was..Glad that Dexter is safe though!

Oh no, poor Dexter! That happened once to my dog, believe it or not, the poor thing. Granted, she is a teacup Yorkie so she is tiny, but who would have thought a dog would go to such a length to explore?? Congrats on being a new pet owner! Also, I just happened upon your blog and was wondering how you made those awesome looking lentils? That is going on my must try list as soon as I figure out how to make them!

ahaha, I used to have kittens and they did almost the same thing!
only instead of a cabinet, it was a radiator that we never used. they did it all the time– crawled up inside it.
my dad had to take it apart to get them out! :p
my cats used to go in the weirdest places…like one time my cat smooshed itself under the bathroom sink. WTF? there was like 1.5 inches of space there! Weird cat. lol!

I’m glad you found him and he’s ok– kittens are curious! 🙂

Although it may have been nerve racking trying to find dexter it sure makes a fantastic story. I love a good story. For instance, this weekend my roommate’s cat tried to escape. I had to track her down outside and force her back into the apartment. She protested a lot but later that night when I accidentally locked myself out of the apt she was thrilled to sit in the window the whole time- meowing- just to mock me 🙂

Being a new parent is hard! You’re doing a great job I’m sure! I once couldn’t find one of my dogs for hours. I was SURE she had escaped. Turns out while I was putting away towels in the linen closet she walked in and got comfy on the floor of the linen closet… and never thought to cry, yelp, bark or respond in anyway to our calls for her…

The worst thing about letting the cat alone is that you can’t call to check if he’s ok! 🙂
