Dinner

Fresh From The Freezer

WOWEEE!
I just consumed possibly the best frozen dinner in the universe. Strong statement, I know, but just listen up. I’m sure everyone here is familiar with the line Amy’s. If you aren’t, you should be. Amy’s is an all natural line of frozen products (cereals to come, I hear!) that is 100% vegetarian and offers many vegan meals as well. The ingredients are simple and wholesome and the flavors are mouthwatering. I have spent many weeks living off of Amy’s while in college with NO time to cook and I still love to keep a couple dinners in my freezer for those nights when I just don’t feel like chopping onions. I never feel bad eating these meals because, even though they are frozen, they are so good for you! And quite filling! Tonight I tried the brand new dinner, “Black Bean Tamale Verde”, and was it ever good. The best I’ve ever had. Hands down. I want to run and fill my freezer with this but my credit card just won’t let me do that.

The tamale was thick and filled with a delicious mixture of black beans, spices and chilis and served with a delicious (not-t00-spicy) salsa verde. The rice had lots of flavor as well and I spiced it all up with my own salsa for dipping. I also made a tiny salad (I literally had only a half cup of lettuce left) with Woodstock dressing. This should keep me going for awhile….but I am bringing a defrosted Double Chocolate Muffin, courtesy of Miss Lindsay’s upcoming cookbook, with me for a snack later…

I’m always satisfied by Amy’s meals. It’s got to be the fact that it’s all wholesome ingredients. =) Now if only they’d sell their whole product line up here in Canada!!

The cereals are out, I’ve seen them at WF. The new vegetable korma dish (an Indian dish) is also outstanding.

Amy’s meals are definitely great! I don’t have a microwave any more and they are one of the few frozen meals that you can make in the oven and they taste just as good that way (even though it takes a looong time to cook!) I usually have them for lunch, though – I wish I could be satisfied on a frozen meal and small side salad for dinner, but I think I am just so used to eating smaller breakfasts and lunches and bigger dinners. Anyone have any advice about how to break that habit? I feel like if I eat more at breakfast/lunch, I still want to eat a bigger dinner!

I had Amy’s tonight too!! I usually love all of their products (the burritos are my absolute favourite) but tonight I got the enchilada meal with rice and beans and to be honest I wasn’t that impressed. The corn tortilla kinda fell apart and had no real flavour, and it just wasn’t spicy enough. Glad to hear that yours was satisfying though, I’ll be on the lookout for that one!

***Tip for Amy’s Lovers: If you e-mail the Amy’s people (through their web site) and ask ANY product-related question/comment/offer any feedback or suggestions, they are basically programmed to instantly reply asking for an address where they can send you manufacturer’s coupons (usually $1 off any 2 Amy’s products or 55c off of any one.) Their coupons are also ubiquitous among health catalogs/flyers with organic coupons in them as well. They are very good about their customer service and coupons. Go for it!!!

Amy’s makes the yummiest mac and cheese too that you don’t feel terrible about eating. And lots of other good stuff. I love how it doesn’t feel/taste processed even though it’s frozen!

Lived off that stuff during my non-dishwasher years

That tamale looks delicious! I’m impressed by how it looks almost identical to the picture on the box. Sometimes you just never know what you’re going to get with frozen meals…

    Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
