Dessert/ Dinner

Fun Night, Off To Bed!

Hey everyone, just got home from the BBQ and getting ready for bed! My apple and peanut butter snack did wonders of holding me over for about 3 hours or so until we got to the party. That’s a powerful snack! I ate a burger off the grill for dinner…it was small and I’m guessing was probably about 5 ounces. It was fine– I put lots of dijon mustard and ketchup on it (there was no cheese)! I think my body is just so used to eating really “good for you” foods though that a burger really just isn’t as satisfying to me as is roasted vegetables, fish and whole grains. I mean, it tasted good and all….but it’s not my favorite thing to eat— I just don’t feel that great after eating one.  On the side there were lima beans that had been simmering with a ham hock all day and were soooo good as well as a fresh spinach salad that I tried to load up on to get my greens in! Overall, it wasn’t that unhealthy of a dinner…small burger, yes lots of saturated fat, but if you only have one on occasion it’s fine. I drank about 4 ounces of wine and then just drank ice water for the rest of the night. I’m going to an early morning yoga class with my mom tomorrow and want to feel my best!

And…of course there were desserts…my weak spot! One of the girls had made a homemade key lime pie so I had to try a small piece–it probably was about a four inch slice, quite small! Then…I tasted Ryan’s ice cream snicker’s cake and got a tiny sliver of that too (not pictured)! See, once I start I just can’t stop!!!! It’s okay though; I don’t feel stuffed at all and this is not an every night affair. Plus, it could have been much much worse if I would have kept drinking! Most everyone else was drinking beer all night but I passed because I hate beer and I knew one glass of wine was enough for me!

Goodnight!

I love the relationship you have with food! It is so refreshing to see someone eat real food and not feel like they need to punish themselves for it. It makes me believe you really can enjoy the good stuff and still be healthy.

I feel like I wrote this post!! I totally agree with you that although hamburgers taste great, I just don’t feel that great when I eat them. The lime beans look delicious! My biggest weakness is homemade desserts too – Snickers pie!?!? YUM! But it looks like you had a really healthy night overall 🙂

How do you limit your alcohol consumption at these kinds of gatherings while still being very involved with your friends and not feeling left out? Last night I went out dancing with friends and def. drank too much (not as much as everyone else though! but a few drinks). I just didn’t feel like I could say no. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    TC,

I make a point to make a drink last a loooong time. I slowly sip on my wine and when its gone I’ll have one more glass if I feel like I want to or usually I’ll just switch to water or club soda. I found that drinking club soda with a lime looks a lot like a vodka tonic when you are at a bar so no one really cares or notices that much. I’ve also never been that big of a drinker, hate beer and don’t like liquor (except for a cosmo once in a blue moon). Wine is a major weakness of mine and if I am out having a good time I usually end up drinking 2 glasses…but usually never more than that or I will feel like crap in the morning! It IS difficult sometimes when you are the only one not drinking when you are out with your friends so I suggest learning how to really nurse one drink, making it last for about an hour or so. Then, having the will power to say no! You could always use the “I have to drive” excuse and hopefully they will get off your case….or just get your club soda and lime and dance!!! 🙂
