So, today is sort of a big deal.
Like any well bred Southern girl, I was raised on college football. And not just any college football. I was raised on SEC football, which, if you are from the South, you know is more like a religion than anything else. When going to college, I was given a list of schools acceptable to apply to……the list consisted of schools only in the SEC. Yes, it might sound a little intense and even though I did end up transferring from Alabama to graduate from College of Charleston, but the Crimson Tide is still in my heart.
Call me crazy, but I’ve stood on the sidelines at games and cried when they lost and danced all night long when they won. Once, I was even on ESPN screaming my head off and jumping up and down in my cocktail dress and rainbow flops. Classy.
Okay so anyways, needless to say, I’m super excited for the game tonight and woke up at like 6:15 thinking about the spirit of Bear Bryant. Normal? I think so. I calmed myself down enough to eat some overnight chia oats
I used 1/3 cup oats, 1 T chia seeds, 1/3 c almond milk, 1/2 c yogurt, almond butter, banana, cinnamon and berry syrup 🙂
After breakfast I climbed back into bed with my tea and worked on the book for an hour. I have a little more work to do now before heading to the yoga studio to train and then take a “yoga strength bootcamp” class at 11:45. It might hurt. Especially since I’m already incredibly sore from staying in frog pose for an ungodly amount of time during yesterday’s class.
I shall return!

January 7, 2010 at 9:02 amCollege football is so exciting! I like watching it when there are a lot of people around! Sadly, Cornell doesn’t really have a football team! I miss football games at Cal!
Lauren @ A Fit Foodie
January 7, 2010 at 9:09 amMy husband was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and is a huge Roll Tide boy! We will definitely be watching the game tonight and I’m sure like my husband, you’ll be screaming and hollering too! Roll Tide Roll!!!

January 7, 2010 at 9:16 amSO GLAD to see a Roll Tide post here – I’ve seen so many blog photos of people in burnt orange I could puke (I’m a USC Trojans fan, and I absolutely hate everything about Texas with every cell of my being so I’m one of the biggest Tide fans outside the SEC today!) Good luck!!
Yasmin
January 7, 2010 at 9:16 amOh no honey, you’ve got it all wrong! I graduated from UT and I’ve got my burnt orange on and my horns up!! Hook ’em! You’re going down 😉

January 7, 2010 at 9:18 amI go to an SEC school and don’t pay the least bit of attention to football. People think I’m NUTS.
Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats
January 7, 2010 at 9:19 amOooo I hear you girl – us Iowa Hawkeye fans are NUTS about our team!! They just beat Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl on Tuesday – couldn’t be prouder! Enjoy your day, and the game!

January 7, 2010 at 9:20 amI thank God every day that my husband doesn’t watch sports. Not sure why, though, considering his hobby is cars which is a much more expensive one. LOL 🙂 Hope your team wins!!

January 7, 2010 at 9:22 amI completely understand. I’m a huge FSU fan, and I was raised in the South. I married into a family of Gators though. GO BAMA!

January 7, 2010 at 9:27 amSince the husband works in sports radio my life pretty much revolves around sports (except when I’m at work, then I get some peace!). I totally get your enthusiasm! Plus, the championship games are so much fun to watch simply because of all the excitement from the students!!
Sarah
January 7, 2010 at 9:31 amMy husband is so fired up for this game even though both of our loyalties lie with the Pac 10. Good luck with Yoga bootcamp!

January 7, 2010 at 9:31 amOh sorry Jenna…GO LONGHORNS! I went to rival Texas A&M but I live in Austin so I gotta root for my State, City, AND conference! BIG 12 all the way! 🙂 Hope it is a good game! 🙂

January 7, 2010 at 9:33 amI’m from Texas (which I think is hilarious that most people just say I’m from The South but us crazy Texans always specify) and college football is just as intense here as I’m sure you can imagine so today is a big deal in my house as well :). I was also given a list of schools based on their football teams, TCU being the only non-Big 12 school allowed and even that was a stretch for my family. When I got accepted I was allowed to go only on the condition I cheer for Texas in all their Big 12 games. Kidding, but not really. ( if i had chosen A&M i seriously wouldve been disowned.) I go to TCU and bleed purple, but was raised on Texas Football and am so excited about today’s game. Hopefully Mack Brown, Shipley, and Colt can ease the hurt of TCU not ending up undefeated. (it’s too soon to talk about..)
It should be a great game and p.s- The eyes of Texas are upon you 😉

January 7, 2010 at 9:57 amOh you southern girls 🙂
I wish I understood the difference between college and NFL. Alas my family didn’t grow up with it and I didn’t start watching it until I was in HS.

January 7, 2010 at 10:18 amSan Francisco undoubtedly has the best food ever! It’s amazing.
That cookie place looks so cute. I’ve been through SF with my mom’s friends – 3rd generation SF locals – and they’ve steered me clear of Castro. Next time I’m going with my husband, and maybe then we’ll be brave enough to check it out that place!

January 7, 2010 at 10:18 amYou might have shared this before, but i was wondering why you transferred from Alabama to the College of Charleston?

January 7, 2010 at 10:23 amSEC! SEC! SEC! I am a Georgia Bulldog and while I love living in Southern California, I have to agree–they don’t get just how important college football is here! I am rooting for BAMA and not-so-secretly hoping that when the Tide wins it all, Kirby Smart will announce that he is returning home to be the DC for the Dawgs!

January 7, 2010 at 11:02 amI live in a college town so football is kind of a big deal here too. I’m really like football but I think it’s more about being at the game with all of the energy and craziness!

January 7, 2010 at 11:04 amI think you are totally normal. You are describing me on Monday. I’m a huge Boise State fan and they played in the Fiesta Bowl against TCU on Monday night. I woke up in the morning thinking about them and I was excited and nervous throughout the whole day. I’m a huge fanatic as well 🙂 When Boise won I called my grandparents who live in Boise (I live on the east coast) just to celebrate with them!!

January 7, 2010 at 11:04 amI live in Tuscaloosa and although I am not a Tide fan (grew up in Tennessee, Go Vols — sorry!), it has been so easy to get caught up in the excitement and mayhem. Its still the SEC and football! So many of my friends are out in CA right now and seriously, here in Tuscaloosa it is like a holiday — people are taking off work, calling in sick, and there is a snow alert so businesses and schools are closing. Crazy!

January 7, 2010 at 11:11 amHave fun at the game!! I love being so excited that I can’t sleep.. 🙂

I was there for every game home and away my freshman year and I was born and raised in Cape Cod Mass. I love it, every minute. So unfortunately I will have to go with Texas…cause I just can’t bring myself to cheer for Bama…but I still love you..lol!!

January 7, 2010 at 11:27 amWoo hoo!! SEC football is the best! It really is like a religion here!! Speaking of Charleston, can you suggest some restaurants there? I will be going in February for vacation!

January 7, 2010 at 7:27 pmCan’t say I was planning to watch this Alabama-Texas game but it started as soon as I got on the dreaded treadmill today and I remembered how excited you were in this post! January 9, 2010 at 7:23 amI’m late on this post! But I totally didn’t get the college football thing until I moved to Florida where I’m now a FLORIDA GATOR! So I understand now, haha. Football really is like a religion around here and it makes your college experience so much richer if you get into the team spirit.
Congrats to Bama on the win, and I cheered for them…as difficult as it was after that ridiculous SEC title game :[
