Garlic Cocktail

I’m feeling a lot better and I accredit it to this florescent drink.

It almost hurts your eyes.

This is a mixture of six GIGANTIC carrots, a huge bunch of fresh parsley, four plump garlic cloves, one piece of fresh ginger and one big ol’ orange. I wanted an innocent freshly squeezed orange juice from the Whole Foods juice bar but the guy talked me into this for my cold. It’s called Kung Fu Flu or something like that. Boy, it was potent. And I can definitely still feel it! The good news is that immediately (how crazy is that?!) after drinking it—I got down a little more than half—I felt amazingly better. I swear!!! The bad news is that that was hours ago and I can still feel/taste it. Sorry to gross you out. The garlic was strong. I guess it was worth it because I feel better though. It wasn’t good or bad. Just interesting. I’d never had vegetable juice before. I sort of had to force myself to drink it as I envisioned all the happy vegetables going into my body and killing the big bad cold cells…..I also tried to pretend it was a cosmo. That worked too.

After I drank it, I rewarded myself with a toasted Rudi’s english muffin spread with earth balance and cinnamon sugar.

And while I still didn’t feel up to running, I DID feel up to yoga! I just love how yoga is always something I can go to back to. It’s such a safe place for me and no matter what state I’m in, I ALWAYS feel better after I practice. Today I took Yolie and Shannon’s advice and tried out Yoga To The People. On the website they have free online classes and I took class number four (60 minute class). It rocked. Totally and completely. The instructor was awesome, the music was great and it was exactly what the doctor ordered (and it was FREE). I was definitely challenged though! There were moments when I had to go down to child’s pose but that’s what my body was telling me. Yoga never fails to humble you!

And then tonight I went over to Caitlin’s apartment for a girls night potluck! Caitlin made amazing turkey lasanga with tons of veggies packed in, Meghann made a salad with goat cheese and dates that was to die for (I had seconds!), and I made vegan vanilla cupcakes. 🙂 Everything was totally delicious and it was a lot of fun to enjoy a home cooked meal together rather than going out. Sometimes all you really need is some good home cookin’!

Here’s my plate:

And dessert!

I brought over six cupcakes, one for each of us to eat after dinner and one for us each to take home. I can’t wait to enjoy mine tomorrow night for dessert (if it makes it that long!). These guys are so light and fluffy…the girls couldn’t believe they were vegan! The frosting is soooooooo good!

Here we are making funny faces for the camera:

And Caitlin invited me to her wedding this January!!! YAY!! I LOVE WEDDINGS!!!!! I saw her dress and it is totally and completely breathtaking. 🙂

I’m in bed with my tea and a book. Ah, the exciting life I lead. See you all tomorrow!

ps—Everyone let’s keep our good friend Erica and her family in our thoughts and prayers. I can’t even begin to imagine what she is going through right now, but since we have such a fabulous online community we can use it our advantage to send good thoughts and vibes her way as she begins this fight. Erica, we are with you!!!

Jenna, I am definitely going to check out that yoga website. Not sure if I mentioned it to you, but I often use http://www.yogatoday.com for a similar experience. Classes are free, they put up new ones each week and taught by actual yoga instructors! Some of the advanced classes are tough.

Wow-your dinner sounded delicious! Could you please post the recipes for the salad (I love goat cheese!), the lasagna and the cupcakes, too? Or suggest an online version of them?

    Thanks!

does anyone have any advice for stopping counting calories? first week is the hardest? just force yourself not to count? nightly I tell myself that “tomorrow” I’ll stop….thanks everyone! oh and another problem is that I just know how many cals are in everything, so even if the actual act of documenting the morsels doesn’t happen, there will still be the running talley in the head….complete with whipping out the cell phone calculator at red stoplights, just to, you know, double check…ahhhh

Yay!! I’m so glad you enjoyed the yoga classes Jenna!! 😀
The fourth IS really good, definitely challenging, and the sixth is pretty similar too. The third has more Bikram type poses like dancers pose if you’re ever craving that…
And you are right about yoga making you feel so good…never fails, its like giving yourself a big hug…lol!!
Looks like you girls had a wonderful time last night, that’s so great, love the pix.
I’m glad the veggie juice did the trick, and that you’re feeling a bit better… they’re so potent!!
Take care, have a lovely day…

    Bonnie,

For recipes, you will have to see Caitlin’s blog (www.seebriderun) and Meghann’s blog (http://graduatemeghann.wordpress.com/). I can’t give out the cupcake recipe because it’s not my own—its from Eat, Drink and Be Vegan by Dreena Burton–Great book, I highly recommend it!!! 🙂
