Dinner

A Burger or an Arm?

Wooooooah, nelly!!!!! I just had one of my famous Jenna “I’m-starving-get-out-of-my-way” moments (Ryan knows exactly what I’m talking about)! I’m not sure what happened exactly. I was fine all afternoon at work but then I ate my snack and was still hungry and then the kitchen started prepping for dinner and all those amazing smells……..it was all I could do not to gnaw off my arm. And the funny thing is that the only thing on earth that I was craving was an Amy’s California burger!!! I NEEDED that burger like a cupcake needs frosting.

So, I raced home, ate about six pretzels out of the bag, and immediately made one for myself at 4:30. I had an Amy’s burger on an Ezekiel english muffin with a fat slab of organic tomato, ketchup and honey mustard with steamed broccoli and another yogurt on the side. I was craving yogurt too. Weird. As I was eating my body was sighing in happiness and furthermore when I had my piece of dark chocolate afterwards. Now I’m all ready to get in my jammies and hit the sack but unfortunately it’s off to school! The lesson learned from this experience was THAT I NEED MORE FOOD!!! I clearly didn’t pack enough today and I think it was that I needed more healthy fats. I did pack almonds but they were, um, tiny. This girl needs food!

I packed an oatmeal packet for a snack later.

Tonight should be an early night because all I have to do is make a cheesecake, pastry cream and tart dough to prep for tomorrow. Apparently the rest of my class was in school until 12:20 this morning (so says Chef Erin), so I’m sure everyone is pretty exhausted as is.

So long for now! See you in the a.m!

Oh jenna I know far too well what moments you are talking about. They are the worst. I actually thought to myself this morning that your lunch seemed smaller than usual. I was wondering if there was a reason for that. Anyways, glad you got what you were craving!

Random question, but you seem like the girl to ask… I was recently given a cast iron skillet by my grandmother. I have many recipes that call for a skillet, but I have no idea how to care for it. I notice that many time recipes call for a “seasoned” skillet. I assume that mine is “seasoned” because it has been used for approximately 70 years. Do you have any insight for me?
    Thanks in advance.
Side note- Dexter is a twin to my sisters cat Toulouse. I love seeing pictures of him!

I love the idea of a waffle sandwich with bananas and pb in the middle; I definitely need to try this for breakfast!

The petit fours were a lot of work but the presentation looks beautiful; I’ll help you eat them if you need to get them off your hands!

“I NEEDED that burger like a cupcake needs frosting.”

Haha! That made me chuckle! And I totally have been craving yogurt all the time too…like I have to have some for the cool & creaminess, & texture….even if I’ve had protein and a balanced meal and I’m not hungry… it’s weird!

Have a great night!! Where was your emergency purse Kashi bar, Jenna?? ha The one you and Kath both had in reach for events like this?! I always have one or two in my HUGE purse.

    Melissa,

I “seasoned” my skillet by covering it with oil and letting it sit in a 400 degree oven for about an hour. Each time after you use it, you should put a thin layer of oil on it to keep it seasoned and you should really never put water or soap on it. Just a quick wipe down!

    Lulu,

Yes, I throw away the yolks. Sometimes I like them when I make poached eggs but usually the are pretty unnecessary to me. I guess its wasteful but it could be worse.

Cos you made the amy’s burger sound so delicious and all you guys seem to eat Amy’s products I thought I would see if I can get it in the UK and yes, I can! But only a few products from the range and not the famous burgers – boo… So have found out who stocks it and I’m going to go and hunt Amy down….. I’m on a mission! (I think Whole Foods is my best bet – they have lots of american stuff).
