Behind The Butter

Good Gracious, It’s Friday!

Happy Friday!

Anyone have fun plans for the long weekend? I’m just relaxing, as this is my last “free weekend” for quite some time. Next week I’m super excited because I’m going to Philadelphia for a conference and the week after that my mom is coming and it’s my birthday!

I’m really excited about Philly though because I get to reunite with some of my favorites, eat delicious food and explore a new city! Probably my favorite thing to do is go to a city I’ve never been before and just totally take it on and explore. I’d love to plan a blogger meet-up at some point, even just for coffee, so Philly readers stay tuned for news on that.

Now, on to the food. This morning I had a big bowl of my very favorite cereal–Optimum Power—with banana and almond milk:

And I just had a super early granny lunch of smoked salmon on a sprouted wheat wrap with goat cheese and local butter lettuce from the veggie bag.

Thank you all for telling me about Trader Joe’s exceptionally priced wild smoked salmon!!!!!!!!! I mean, it’s still a treat ($4.99 for 4 ounces…enough for 2 meals) but it’s SO good and cheaper than the stuff I bought the first time. Every time I go into Trader Joe’s my heart sings. I don’t know how I survived so long without it.
I had an early light lunch because I’m heading to the gym now (I think I might actually JOIN today!) and then racing back here to get some stuff done and written before a meeting this afternoon.
Ready. Set. Break.

I can’t believe you’re coming to Philly! Philly is a foodie’s heaven. I think it goes unnoticed because NYC is right around the corner, but there are so many amazing byobs where the focus is simply on the food (since they don’t make money through liquor). I hope you get to spend some time exploring.

I would definitely be interested in a blogger meet-up!!

TJ’s is a thing of beauty. I will certainly miss it when I leave Hartford and return to CO where there are NO Trader Joe’s. Tear….Whole Foods is amazing and all, but Trader Joe’s has its own charm (and much cheaper pricetag to boot!).

I just was at TJ’s and got 4oz Smoked Salmon too! Mine was only $1.99 though. Wonder why. Maybe mine was farm raised? :-/ It was TJ’s brand though, so maybe not! I also checked out the Almond Milk there and saw that it had Soy Lecithin in it. I try to avoid that because of all the controversy. Do you have any opinions about soy and it’s health risks?

I mix TJ’s smoked salmon with organic eggs and chopped fresh dill & scramble. Philly old mainline area really nice. Trivia: The ‘Philadelphia Story’ w/Katherine Hepburn/Jimmy Stewart was based on real life Tracey Lord and remade as ‘High Society’ w/Grace Kelly/Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, etc…lyrics by Cole Porter. Yes, as a matter of fact I DID go to film school (UCLA as part of writing program) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4awCZr7GwY

My weekend already started. Friends & I went out for eggs benedict/champage, then went to Whole Foods & Macy’s sale w/another friend, now off for marathon walk with another. Sleepy Carmel is packed for the holiday weekend…exciting! And a tourist town needs it’s tourist revenues….so bring it on!
    It’s gorgeous out.

My son is in Crete for week and a half and island hoping Greek isles!

Not to diss too much on TJ’s, but their sustainability policy (salmon and other seafood) only came about after a long, drawn-out campaign by a couple of big environmental groups – they didn’t come willingly :(. Their packaging is still a bit of an issue – I think the best thing to do, since they say they listen to their customers, is to let them know that they’re loved, but they’d be loved even more if they were more environmentally responsible.
Just moved to Philadelphia. Yesterday. Exploring it so far has been pretty fun – definitely one of the coolest places I’ve been to yet.
