Well, the good news is that I think I have learned how to successfully conquer jetlag. The secret? Exercise!
This morning we all woke up around nine, which surprisingly felt like nine to me and not six like I thought it would feel like. Nine= cool. Six=not cool. I think it helped that I was just so exhausted last night after flying all day and then working out that I fell right to sleep at a quasi-normal hour.
I grabbed a piece of toast with peanut butter and then we were out the door! Anne and Sabrina power walked while Tina and I ran for 30 minutes. It was gorgeous—I LOVE running in new cities!
It was hot though. Very, very hot and very, very humid. I’ve lost all my Floridian-ness, I guess, because the run was pretty challenging for me. Oh, humidity…I don’t miss you at all. Neither does my hair.
When we got back to the apartment we made breakfast. I had an omelet (3 egg whites + 1 yolk) with fruit and a small smoothie that Sabrina made me. The smoothie had strawberries, bananas, water, ice and a little bit of skim milk. Drank with a straw, obviously.
We don’t really have too much of a plan today other than the reader meet-up at 3pm and then we have to be at the cocktail party and dinner for the conference this evening. I think we’re just going to walk around, grab lunch in a bit and just soak it all in. I’m SO glad I’m here and from what I’ve seen so far, I love Philly!
Here are some general exclamatories:
Can’t wait to meet some of you for frozen yogurt later!!!!
My birthday is a week from today!!!!!!!!
Click here to read my reflection on riding a Century bike race!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay. Enough of that. Time to go play! (single exclamatory)

oooh that sounds like a great day ahead!!!! (lots of exclamatories!) have fun!
Eek, humidity is the worst!
I have dreams of living in Boston… my hair disagrees with me.
So happy that you are enjoying Philadelphia. I live in S. Philly and I LOVE IT!
Beautiful pictures!! It’s humid here, too – yuck – and that smoothie sounds delicious.
My secret to overcoming jet lag is coffee…lots and lots of coffee. I should probably try the exercise thing.
Have fun in Philly!
I agree! Anytime I am jetlagged, exercise first thing does seem to cure it.
Exercise solves jetlag? I now know what I’ll do when I land in Chicago for the HLS!! It’s 6hrs behind England there…I’m gonna be tired!
Have a fab day
I like the article you wrote about your bike ride!
We share the same birthday!
what a refreshing breakfast!!! YuM!!

my hair and I hate humidity too!!
Ah humidity, happy I don’t live in a humid place yet jealous of the heat – it’s raining here in Seattle, as usual
I agree that exploring a new city by foot is the best way to see it – I’m amazed at how many miles I log when I travel. Hope you have a blast today!
Your breakfast looks absolutely amazing. Fresh fruit at brekkie is always great. I hope you guys enjoy your day, Philly looks beautiful!
Running in humidity = yuck! Have a great day today! =)
What a beautiful day to be outside. I’m so happy that it’s not too terribly humid today, although I still worked up quite a sweat this morning.
Like the summation at end of reflection on your ride–that you discovered can do anything put mind to. When realize that–have the world by a string.
so sad i can’t make the meet-up today, i will be sitting here at work. still. blah, anyway i hear you about the humidity today, we get it pretty bad here in the summer. i know you think you’ve got “humidity hair” after a run, but i have naturally curly hair so when i’m done it’s afro city! i hope you have a great rest of your stay here in Philly!
Fun! You sound super happy. I totally agree with the exercise and jet lag thing.
I’m totally jealous of that heat and humidity btw, it’s raining cats and dogs here today.
Sounds like a great way to avoid jet lag! Have fun in Philly, I love that city.
Glad you are enjoying your trip! I am a Philly girl….but now live in Florida!
Have a great conference!
Cute post. One thing I love about Philadelphia: the accents. Yes, every gal I’ve met that sounds cute exclaims, “I’m from Philly!”
*had to use one exclamation mark to keep with your theme.
I hate humidity too. I grew up in CO, which is one of the driest states around, so when I ventured to the East Coast for college, I had no idea what hit me. My hair had no idea what hit it either! My curly hair goes bananas in humidity. I tell people that my hair is like a barometer. The curlier and crazier it gets, the more it’s likely to rain! Good luck braving the humidity!
Enjoy Philly. I love that city like home.
Enjoy playing in Philly!
Great post, girl! I love Anne..so fun seeing you girls reunited! Enjoy Philly, I’m excited to read about your fun weekend and the conference!
I didn’t know Philly was humid! But, I guess Ohio can get pretty humid, so that makes sense.
yum-o!
So originally I was going to post about how I’m a huge hockey fan and my favorite team is the Philadelphia Flyers, and how they are currently in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and how they are going to play their game 4 tonight (which I will be watching in Houston) and how I think you and your friends should go… BUT then I saw that we have the same birthday! How fun! Love it! Have a great visit and soak up some Philly for this Houstonian!!
Boo I am so not a fan of humidity either. I (or my hair) can’t get used to it even after living in it for 10 years!
Also, that’s a great article on the Century race!
Sounds like a good start to your trip
Photos are beautiful!
What a wonderful article – despite your struggles (or maybe because of them) you’ve definitely inspired me to look into some bike races in the future.
Enjoy your blogger-filled day!
I’m from Chicago and living in AZ now…went from a total humid climate to a total dry climate and I much prefer the dry!
I love running in new cities, and what fun to have along your bestest buds.
Yay for June b.days! I hope you have something fun planned.
Exercise is the cure to pretty much everything isn’t it
Though we’ve had some pretty HOT and HUMID days here in Canada lately too and they’ve definitely made running a wee bit tougher!
what a great way to start the day
i’m glad you guys were both able to take a run…and such a beautiful day there too!
Enjoy Philly in every which way! I’m glad you’re having so much fun
Philly sounds like fun! Is your birthday the 11th? Me too!!!!! I hope you have a great one!
Jenna, what brand is that blank workout tank you’re wearing?
Lululemon
Your breakfast looks so colourful and so healthy ! That strawberry smoothie must of tasted superb ! Have a great day !
Can’t wait to see pics from the Blogger meet-up.
Philly does sound awesome…
I love running in new places. I find I end up going farther and harder than usual because I get so caught up in my new surroundings and less on whether or not I’m getting tired!
I live in Oklahoma, and I too, really hate humidity. It makes a person feel really nasty.
We took a trip through New Mexico and Arizona a few years ago, and the dry heat is amazing! I would love to live there, but I think I would miss trees.
Your picture of the tunnel is very lovely. I love it.
I love the east coast, but same thing – I don’t miss humidity AT ALL! Have fun in Philly!
Your birthday is a day before mine…and I am also a Jenna!! (aka Jennifer) Exciting weirdness!
Sounds like you’re having a fun trip… beautiful scenery for the run!
Blech, humidity. I live in SC and it SUCKS!!! Hence, you have to wake up super early to get a run in here.
Isn’t running in a new city simply the best? Such a great way to explore a new city.
Happy to see you are having so much fun! Philly rocks.
Secret to overcoming jetlag- pizza and wine
P.S. so much fun today!!!!
