Grayson Allen: Three Months

grayson three months-8714

I’m a little late in posting this, but last week our little guy turned three months old! Three months just feels like a big milestone {we survived three months?!} and Grayson is changing every day. He’s growing like a weed and already almost 18 lbs!

grayson three months-8727

Yep, our guy likes to eat, all right. He fits in just fine with this family!

He’s also developing quite the little personality! He may look like his daddy, but this boy looooooves his mama, that’s for sure. And I’m happy for it! I love the big goofy smiles I get whenever I change his diaper or play on the activity mat with him. He definitely has his mama’s stubborn streak (and her cowlick)!

He’s becoming more and more interested in dangling toys and can now grasp rattles and shake them all around. He also is loving warm baths, staring at ceiling fans, being outside, sucking on his hands {seriously the kid can stick his entire FIST in his mouth right now}, being read to, his 4moms mamaroo, stroller rides and being carried around in my solly wrap. He does not enjoy napping {hah!}, being in his car seat while awake and the 6pm hour. He seems like a morning guy, just like his mama, and I love our time together right after he wakes up. I use the new SheReadsTruth app on my phone to have a little quiet time while I nurse him and it works out great!

Clothes wise, he’s fitting into all 3-6 months and some 6-12 months already. He wore a pair of 9 month overalls the other day and it fit him perfectly! Talk about chubby.

As you guys know, we had a pretty big month! Grayson traveled all around the country, pretty much, and we visited with both of our families. Things we are looking forward to next month include not traveling, the start of football season and Grayson gaining even more head control. I can’t tell you what a difference a little head control makes! I feel like he’s transitioning from a little baby to a little boy now that he can hold his head up. I can’t wait for Adam to put together his high chair and to start giving him tastes of real food.

We are working on taking better naps in the crib right now and as easy {and convenient!} it may be for me to always let him nap in the car or stroller, I am really trying to get him to take at least one solid nap a day in there a day. Most of the time he seems to wake up after 40 minutes and refuses to go back to sleep, so it’s been a bit of a struggle over the past few weeks. Sleep wise, he goes down at 8pm and sleeps until about 3:45am when I nurse him. Then he goes back down until 7am. We are looking to eliminate that middle of the night feeding this month as well.

All this reminds me – I need to finish ordering his birth announcements right now! Um yeah, I’m totally that mom who is going to send out birth announcements in August for her baby born in May….

Isn’t it fun watching their personality develop?! K just turned 3 months too and I can already see certain personality traits. She’s a busy one! We are hoping to drop that middle of the night feeding soon too!

Oh, and both my girls when they were this little ony slept for 45 minutes naps (it’s one sleep cycle!). When those longer naps come later it is so nice!

Hi Jenna, I have been a reader for a long, long, long time! I’m still here. 🙂 I’m happy to see you so happy and growing as a mother! Your son is precious. I just came across this today: http://www.babysleepsite.com/sleep-training/night-feedings-by-age-when-do-you-night-wean/. I have a 20 month old and am 12 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. I’m still nursing 2x a 24 hour period (before bed and nap) and I realize some will say I’m crazy, but we’re doing what works for us! We went through a great phase from 8 weeks-4 months where E only woke once to nurse … And then the 4 month sleep regression hit and she woke anywhere from 1 or 2 to 4 or 5 times a night until 12 months. I realize still nursing where I’m at now may make me in the minority, but I just want to say Grayson may not be ready for night weaning just yet. At times it has been unbelievably exhausting, but my little one will only be small once and I’ll catch up on sleep one day!

He’s just precious! My little girl was born exactly one week before him, and I agree, head control makes so much difference! I held my friend’s baby who was born August 10, and she was light as a feather. I was so thankful to be through that phase and to have a bigger, robust, bouncy, smiley baby!

Welcome to the Mom’s club! Haha. I love his reddish hair. We just had a little girl in June and she has similar eyes and hair as your little cutie. Sooo much fun! Btw, where did you get his London suit? We lived there for five years as missionary/church planters and I miss it so much!

I love him. I wish A was a chunky monkey..she’s just a string bean. You’re doing amazing and you’ll find your way no matter what!!! Thanks for being a mama who is real about stuff. I appreciate having a blogger who is transparent sharing the highs, the lows, and the reals. xo

Aw that second picture is priceless. What a cutie. As someone who loves receiving birth announcements, I think it’s better late than never! Send away 🙂 On that note, which new mom actually has time to send them out immediately? They must be the same moms who run a marathon three months after giving birth. Crazy.

Three months is a great age. I know you’ve tried it before but dream feeding helps eliminate that 3 am feeding. But so do solids in spite of what anyone says to the contrary. (Of course you’ll have to wait a bit for that but it was what did the trick for my baby). It’s so true that days are long but years are short. Enjoy!

    Jenna
With moms on call, did you just force Grayson to sleep when it was nap time? I just got the book for my 8 week old. I’m not sure how we go from putting him down when he is asleep to awake and having him actually nap. Thanks

I found that when I followed the schedule, he was naturally tired at nap times since by the time nap time rolled around he would have been awake for about an hour an a half. Granted, it was an adjustment. The first few days of following the schedule (when Grayson was also 8 weeks old) were really hard. We have been lucky because he falls asleep pretty quickly at naptime but our problem is that he just doesn’t STAY asleep. If you’re easing into the schedule, I recommend just laying your baby down in the crib during naptime and leaving the room. See what happens and go back in to comfort/sooth/paci every few minutes if need be. They get used to it quickly..it’s just a matter of resetting their little internal clocks.

    Hi Jenna
I don’t know much about babies but is there a point at which he is too chubby and you should be worried about his size (if he is fitting into 9 mos clothing at only 3). I ask because I don’t know much about babies, not because I want to be rude or mean! Like would the doctor suggest reducing his portions or are babies supposed to just grow as much as possible in the beginning of their life. Grayson is seriously one of the chubbiest 3-yr olds I’ve ever seen!

He definitely is not one of the “chubbiest” *3 month olds and your comment was actually pretty rude and unnecessary. Back off of Grayson, he is adorable and perfect just the way he is! Ya’ll are such a cure family, Jenna! 🙂

The 40 minutes is pretty typical – that’s a baby’s sleep cycle at that age. I always though babies napped a long time, but that comes with age (wish I had known that from the beginning). We weren’t able to get longer naps until after sleep training at 6 months when he learned to self soothe and they stretched to about 1.5 hours and held there for a long time. Now at almost 2 yrs we get 2-3 hours! If you’re getting great nighttime sleep like you are, you might not have to sleep train and he might get it all on his own! He’s such a cutie!!!

Are you guys following moms on call (or some other schedule)? Our 3 month old is giving us a run for our money at night and it seems like you have a nice schedule going. Would love any tips you might have!

I have a 7 month old (21 lbs!)who still nurses 2-3x a night. Our doc recommended against sleep training or eliminating night feeds til 12 months.

Hi there, just wanted you to know that my baby is chubby, too and wearing 6 month clothes and was born 5 days after grayson!!! All breast milk. I joke that with this son I make whole milk and my older kids I only made skim because they were so much smaller/skinnier.
