Happy Valentine’s Day!!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!!

Oh my, I just LOVE this day. I think it stemmed back to when I was growing up and my parents would make the biggest deal out of it! Every Valentine’s Day morning before my brother and I would wake up, my mom would completely decorate the kitchen table with streamers, confetti and candy hearts and there would be cards and presents at each of our place settings! Little stuff, like chocolates or my favorite chewy cinnamon bears….but I remember one year getting a new nightgown (with hearts on it of course) and I seriously thought it was the best thing ever and I was the COOLEST girl ever for receiving such a big girl gift! Funny how we remember those things so vividly.

And, as I have said before, this is the first Valentine’s Day that Ryan and I actually get to spend together! We have been dating now for ALMOST 3 years (!!) but I’ve always been in school or at work and we have had to celebrate later or earlier. My sweet boy came home yesterday with THIS under his arm:

He knows me SO well! I have never really been a flower type of girl—I’ll admit, flowers are GORGEOUS, but I would much rather have something that would last and that, I’ll admit it, I can EAT!!! =) Ryan was so sweet with getting me little zucchini and buttercup squash plants and he also brought in two huge clay pots and a big ol’ thing of soil! Aint he sweet?! He also got me a card that I will probably keep in my bible, it was so sweet. In the (almost) three years of dating, I had no idea he could write like that! I almost cried!

Ok–I am done gushing! I know how lucky I am to spend the whole day with the man of my dreams but I also know how it feels to be single on this day!!!! When I was a freshman in college I was single and I remember sitting on my friend Tess’s top bunk, eating ice cream and watching sad movies all day. It won’t last forever girls, I PROMISE. Everyone goes through it and it will not last. You are all SO beautiful and even if you are 100% totally single, God loves you more than anything in the world and more than you could ever even imagine. I think He is the ultimate Valentine and He is definitely smiling down on you today.

For breakfast this morning I made a beautiful bowl of oat bran (1/2 cup made with 1 cup skim) topped with brown sugar, sliced banana, sliced strawberries and creamy peanut butter:

I’m going to let my food digest for a little bit and then hit the mat for some yoga! I really want to start designing my own practice, something Courtney and I were talking about yesterday on our walk. I think I have definitely reached the point in my practice where I feel comfortable enough to start depending less on someone else telling me what to do, and start depending MORE on guiding myself. We will see how that goes!

Our plans today are really working around our plans for TONIGHT. Ryan is taking me to dinner at a mystery restaurant (he says I have never been there and it is a big surprise), but the only reservation time he could get is at 5:15! The restaurant is on the water so we are taking his parent’s boat there.…I think its about an hour boat ride there and back and we are praying for gorgeous weather!

I love making up my own “go with the flow” yoga. I posted this on my blog, but I did it yesterday and my little girl asked, “Mama, who is telling you to do that?!” =)

Hi, I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, and really never got a chance to comment, but this post…. brought tears to my eyes. I love it!
Have fun at dinner tonight, he seems like a keeper, and can’t wait to find out all about your date!
Good luck with designing your own routine, I’m just slowly getting back to my bikram, with all the training for the Chicago marathon, it’s another way to relax and stretch tons of different muscles!
xxox

p.s. never been a big fan of Valentine’s day because I’m always the single one, and it’s just to overrated for me. I’m still single, but this year I decided to do something that makes me super duper happy and helps me release all the tears and bring me joy… and that is to bake for all my friends |and my crush ;-) |and I’m going to go and deliver their favorites once I’m done!

Jenna,
I’m a reader from Los Angeles and just wanted to say it’s so great to read your blog and feel your positive vibes, especially amongst all the snarky blogs out there. Keep doing your thing, and I also am a yoga fiend so it’s great to read your posts about that as well. You and Ryan are absolutely adorable. Happy V-day to all of you!

Best,
Kat

I really like your blog and all, but I think it’s kind of strange of you to say, “It won’t last forever girls, I PROMISE. Everyone goes through it and it will not last. ” I’m sorry, but I love being single and really don’t think a girl needs to have a guy (partner, whatever) to feel happy/have a good valentine’s day or to be a better person or happier or whatever you are insinuating. I personally think it’s ridiculous to have to make a “day” for expressing love to your loved one(s), when really it’s all about commercialism and sales, making people feel bad when they dont have a boyfriend and have to resort to eating ice-cream and watching sad movies. We shoudl celebrate our loved ones everyday in more honest, genuine, and non-commercial ways and, when it comes to the single people, thank God that he is preparing us for the right person to come because He knows we aren’t ready for them yet!

Sorry for the rant-you can tell I’m single, I guess, it might be a different story if I was in a relationship- but STILL!
