Guys! One of the headaches of blogging is dealing with technological issues and last night was just one of those nights. DreamHost (my server) wasn’t letting me log on and it was so frustrating that I eventually just stopped trying and went to bed. Lo and behold, she works just fine this morning so maybe ELR just was a little tired. Full steam ahead!
I hope Thursday was lovely….it’s now Friday so YAY! 🙂 Yesterday I actually had a kick butt workout at the gym that included upper body strength + spinning. I had everything timed perfectly and after spinning, showered at the gym, drank some coffee and went straight to the winery, getting there right at 10:30.
Lunch was a hummus/laughing cow/avocado sandwich with the most delicious of pears:
Yummy bar later:
And then last night, I was having a serious craving for Asian food so I met a friend at this Asian fusion restaurant in Windsor called Chinois. We were both STARVING so we ordered chicken lettuce wraps and duck spring rolls to start—-
I ordered this tofu dish for entree with mung beans and scallions but…it wasn’t awesome. Actually, I had to dump sriracha sauce on it to add some flavor. Not impressed.
We both agreed that the WINE was MUCH better than the food……and the funny thing is that we brought the wine ourselves!
Thank you, Chateau Felice. We are totally obsessed with your wine, so much so that we drank the entire bottle between the two of us last night in one sitting. Sometimes it’s just totally necessary.
This morning, overnight oats!
I forgot to sign up last night for spinning this morning but I think I’m just going to show up and see if I can snag a bike anyway.
Then, it’s off to San Francisco!!!!
I haven’t mentioned this yet, but all day I’m actually working at the Amazing Grass booth at the Green Festival today! I’ve never done this before so I don’t really know what I’m getting myself into, but Brandon (my AG boss) says I’ll love it and I just get to hang out and talk about grass for hours. Woohooo!
It actually works out really well because my mom’s flight gets into the city at 8:45 tonight. And, I know this is short notice…..but if any readers want to meet me for a quick dinner at 6:30 or 7:00, EMAIL ME. I’ll be around and don’t really know where to go or what to do. Kind of in the mood for somewhere fun and vegetarian. Thoughts?
Alright—to the gym!

November 13, 2009 at 7:28 amSounds like fun, there’s a great little Thai place I’ve been to in San Fran as well as an Indian place for samosas…when in doubt, Yelp it!

November 13, 2009 at 7:36 amHi Jenna:
Your sammiches (as my other half calls them) with hummus and cheese make me wish I knew you better – I think we’d be great friends! 🙂
Just wanted to say have a fabulous time with your mum. I got to see mine for 5 days a couple of weeks ago (really only see her at the moment about once every 12-18 months – ugh!) and it was just so wonderful. I miss her heaps! I know she’s (your mum, not mine!) going to love your new Cali life and be so happy that you’re happy!
Also, I think this might be the first time in 8 months of reading your blog that I have seen you say a dish wasn’t good! 🙂

November 13, 2009 at 7:56 amHi Jenna!
I live in SF and would love to meet you for dinner, but have already made plans for tonight. But, regardless, I’ve got some recommendations for ya:
1. You just had asian, but Slanted Door in the ferry building is a-maze.
2. Millenium, at the corner of geary and jones (lower nob hill/downtown), is an entirely vegan restaurant. It’s kind of fancy, but the food is out of this world. Like, world renowned.
3. Delfina, in the mission, is an upscale italian restaurant and also definitely worth the trip.
4. Moss Room, in golden gate park, is a beautiful restaurant with an incredible interior, although not vegetarian. If the green festival is there (I have no idea where it is, actually), that might be convenient!
Have a wonderful time tonight!
Stephanie @ Foodie McFood
November 13, 2009 at 8:02 amTalking about grass in San Francisco happens all the time, but this will be the first time that said grass will be legal. 🙂 I am so jealous of all of your awesome jobs! Have fun with your mom!

November 13, 2009 at 8:03 amSure, I’ll hop on a flight from Pittsburgh to SF to join you for dinner! 😉 Just kidding. Have a great time working the booth at the Green Festival!

November 13, 2009 at 8:07 amI’m not in SF – but you should go to Chinatown and find a vegetarian Chinese restaurant. Last time I was in SF I went, and got to have things like sweet and sour “pork” and almond “chicken”. I’ve been a veggie for 12 years, so I really missed those foods. I don’t know names of any places, and I live in Boston now, but you should totally see if you can find a veggie place in Chinatown:)

November 13, 2009 at 8:11 amhave a fun time in san fran! i have wino friends who bring their bottles of wine to restaurants all the time… its way cheaper and they get what they know they like, a win-win.

November 13, 2009 at 8:12 amSorry the dish wasn’t that good, it certainly looks yummy! If you are in San Fran tonight try Beetlenut. It is an excellent hybrid Indian-Chinese restaurant. One of my favorites!
Megan (The Runner's Kitchen)
November 13, 2009 at 8:23 amI love sandwiches with laughing cow, hummus, and avocado – it’s my packed lunch staple 🙂
Congrats on the spinning workout – if I’m lucky I’ll make it to a class at my gym today! Keeping my fingers crossed that work isn’t too crazy…

November 13, 2009 at 8:23 amYet another fun day in Jennaland! 😉

November 13, 2009 at 8:26 amIf you’re in the Mission area, you should try Manga Rosa – its a mix of Brazil and Italy (I know, random, but super good). Its not vegetarian, but they have plenty of vegetarian items and its a really fun place to go if you have a couple people so you can get a few things and sample. Indian is another good one – plenty of those in the Mission too! Have fun!

November 13, 2009 at 8:26 amGo to The Plant Cafe where I went!! You will LOVE it and it’s all super healthy!!!!!!!!!! There is one in the Ferry Building and one in the Marina area.

November 13, 2009 at 8:30 amI haven’t been there myself, but Cha-Ya is supposed to be a really amazing vegetarian Japanese restaurant. It’s in the Mission on Valencia street between 18th and 19th. Might be hard to find parking, though…

November 13, 2009 at 8:33 amHave fun at the Amazing Grass booth! Whole Foods in Atlanta (Briarcliff) had an AG booth one time and the girl working it was so friendly and energetic that I left wanting to do promos for them! It seemed like so much fun. 🙂

For those of you who love the stuff, I have a 2LB container of the mango pomagranite amazing meal…I would love to sell it to someone…my tummy doesn’t like it…although it tastes good. 2lbs for 40$. I will sent it to you…for free…since well, it’d rather someone love it and enjoy it…than it go to waste. 🙂 I love your blog…congrats on everything this year!! Erin

November 13, 2009 at 8:35 amThe Stinking Rose -above Chinatown on Columbus near Broadway. If you like garlic, this is the place to be. You can find vegetarian food on the menu (I did when I visited San Fran in August). It is sooo Yummy. I like not love garlic but I really enjoyed their restaurant. I even bought some sauces to take home with me. YUM!

November 13, 2009 at 9:06 amAhhh Jenna, I wish we could meet up! Unfortunately I already made dinner plans, but I would definitely like to meet you at some point when you’re in San Francisco now that I moved here. How about checking out The Plant Cafe where we had the blogger meetup with Kath? The veggie burger is unfrekinbelievable. There’s one on the embarcadero and one in the marina but I think you’ll need reservations if you go to the embarcadero one.

While I am not in San Francisco, there are some awesome places to check out. Where are you going to be and what is your transportation like? I highly recommend Pomelo and Luella.

November 13, 2009 at 11:06 amAhh! My friend told me about your blog and that you’ll be in SF. I wish I could meet up with you, I’d love to pick your brain about blogs and readership! Unfortunately, I already have plans. However, I second the recommendations for Herbivore as a great veg restaurant! Enjoy your time here!

November 13, 2009 at 11:16 amBanana House in San Francisco is by far the best Thai Food I’ve ever had. It’s a little hole-in-the-wall place that is pretty authentic. If you don’t try it tonight, you must try it sometime!
Also, I tried Della Fattoria in Petaluma for the first time yesterday. It’s a bakery, coffee shop and restaurant in one and the food is farm to table (the farm is in Petaluma). It was AMAZING!

November 13, 2009 at 11:40 amI would say go to Greens. Amazing vegetarian and beautiful view on the water. Millennium is good but much more of a sit down and have 5 amazing courses of vegan food paired with wine. Greens is quicker and amazing. I would make a reservation. I am headed to Delfina for dinner tonight & looking forward to that.
