Lunch

Holy Salad Batman

Hi guys! Thanks so much for the positive feedback regarding my new little writing gig. I will continue to post a link to the daily articles that I write and I do hope you all will check it out and support me because, well, I get paid based on pageviews so if no one reads what I write, I don’t make any money!

This morning was interesting because I had just started a Dave Farmar power yoga podcast (love him!) and I was about 15 minutes into it when I started to smell something…..odd. Like I had left a candle lit or something but I knew I hadn’t. Something in me told me to stop my vinyasas and poke around the condo. Low and behold, the top to some tupperware had fallen in the dishwasher and was burning up!

img_7213

I don’t even HAVE to tell you how awful burning plastic smells. Sorry, Ryan! 🙂

So that was interesting and I never did get back on my mat since I was feeling so distracted! Oh well. Instead, I met my mom for lunch at a little greek place in town called Louis Pappas. Pappas is incredibly famous in the Tampa area for their greek salad and rightly so! We both ordered the “baby greek” (the smallest they have) with salmon on it and look at how HUGE it was!

img_7217

It was delicious though! Layers upon layers of creamy greek potato salad, salty feta, fresh lettuce, beets, kalamata olives and finished off with a single shrimp + salmon for me! I requested the dressing on the side and didn’t really need to use much at all since there was so much going on in the salad already.

img_7218

Yep, I was in salad heaven! I also had a slice of french bread with pesto

img_7219

And had water to drink. When I was finished, it looked like I hadn’t even put a dent in the salad but I probably ate about 80% of it!

I had this for dessert!

img_7220

After lunch we headed over to my brother’s school to donate all his school supplies and books and to pick up his unfinished art work. I still can’t believe that a) he is gone and b) he was an AMAZING artist! He seriously could have probably gone to art school for ceramics and was in AP ceramics this year. I just never knew…I wish I would have……

When I got home it was juice time!

img_7223

Today’s mix was carrots, kale, ginger, celery, beet and pineapple. YumO! The pineapple made it super sweet 🙂

img_7224

I’m off to write, clean and then head to my parent’s house to watch Oprah with my mom. Today is the big farewell to Dr. Oz! Love him!

Back to make dinner later….I’m slowly getting used to our 8:00 dinner time but its worth it because then I at least have someone to eat with!

Yum! I went out for Greek food for lunch, too!! How nice of your family to donate your brother’s things to his school. You continue to make a positive different around you! Ever since I started working, I like working out after my day and have been eating dinner at 8:00 or later. I love it, just need a little snack pre-workout!! For one, I think about what I will make while I am running 🙂 and then I don’t get hungry before bed. That’s not to say that I don’t still have something sweet!

I had no idea AP Ceramics even existed. John was clearly a way talented guy. 🙂

The salad looks to-die-for, and I hope the tupperware fiasco didn’t ruin any other dishes! And of course, I’ll be clicking every post you write at The Daily Loaf to support you!

Will you display some of John’s pieces in the condo, or are your parents keeping them all?

Keep telling us when you write The Daily Loaf so we can click on the pages!

My parents want them all for the time being but I’m hoping in the future they will let me take something 🙂

      Caroline,

Why, yes, I am! Thank you! My cousin sent me a big shipment of Cover Girl makeup and this is the “urban flatts” eyeshadow set.

Yum!! I love Louis Pappas! The greek salads are wonderful. I used to get them all the time and actually haven’t been in quite a while. Need to get back over there.

What a nice day with Mom. I’m sure it was hard but I know she treasures this time you are spending with her. Just make sure you are taking care of you too =)

    Mmm, I need a juicer.

    Enjoy Oprah!

Jenna, your lunch looks amazing! And your juice does, too. Can you make that without a juicer? And, are you planning at all to post recipes for your juice mixes? I’m eager to try one, but I haven’t got a mixer or a clue how to do it! LOL!

Good luck with your new gig! I’d love to be able to work from home like that. 🙂

Mmm…I love when pineapple jumps in my juicer. It makes such a big difference!

Something melted in our dishwasher too, but I think it was a sippy cup lid. My gosh, it still reeks every time I open it. Good excuse not to do dishes!

I love Pappas! My uncle used to take me there all the time as a kid, there is a location here in St. Pete too, which is awesome. Also, I enjoyed your article in CL (plus I am a huge fan of Fage, have been for years!), one my fave places to browse around in my free time. Good luck with the readership, you have me as a devoted reader already.

I have a question about coconut water. I just bought one of the bigger cartons, but I noticed that it says that it must be consumed within 2 days of opening. Does it really go bad in 2 days? I don’t think I can drink it all in 2 days. Thanks!

You did a great job on your article! However, I want to comment on the greek yogurt/PB2 “mousse,” which is indeed wonderful, but can also be made with a tablespoon of regular old natural peanut butter (or other nut butter of your choosing).

The “mousse” is also fantastic mixed with a mashed ripe banana, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and topped with granola (I make my own PB granola, or use Erin Baker’s).

The same thing happened a few weeks ago to us too with the tupperware falling on the heating element in the dishwasher – another reason why you should run your applicances (dishwasher, washer/dryer) only when somebody is home in case something goes foul.

I <3 Dr. Oz!!!! I am super excited for his new show, but man am i gonna miss him on Oprah. she and Dr. oz are hiliarious!!!

Hey Jenna. Question about your juices. Do you use a juicer or your Vita-Mix? And if you use a juicer, have you ever made juice in a Vita-Mix? I’m thinking about getting the blender and it says you can make juices. THanks girl!

    • jenna
      May 12, 2009 at 5:49 pm

      JW,

I use a Breville Fountain Elite Juicer. I’ve tried to juice in my VitaMix and, well, it doesn’t really work that well because you get all the pulp and rind and everything that a real juicer extracts when it juices. Theoretically you CAN make juice in a blender, but it won’t be pure liquid!

    Thank you Jenna! haha
