Ice Cream X2

by jenna on January 14, 2010

Hi everyone!

Of course everyone knows this but please keep all the families that were affected by the earthquake in Haiti in your prayers tonight….so often I feel like we take SO much for granted (I know I do at least) and there are many, many people out there tonight that could desperately use a prayer.

Gosh, hungry again all day! I think it’s these kick butt strength workouts I’ve been doing with Anna. I always crawl off the mat but then am eager to get back on it? ;) But seriously, since I started to get back in shape with power yoga 6x a week, I’ve noticed myself definitely getting stronger. Starting to feel more like the old Jenna again!

So, today I was lucky enough to meet some truly fabulous NYC blog readers!!! Alex and Freya took a spontaneous girls weekend all the way to San Francisco and rented a car to come up to the good old HB to meet me today for frozen yogurt!

IMG_4171.JPG
Actually, we were supposed to meet for coffee but when we got there I said frozen yogurt was a much better option…I needed something sweet!

IMG_4170.JPG
This is a small organic vanilla yogurt with mini chocolate chips and trader joe’s mint “oreos”….fabulous.
I gabbed with the girls for well over an hour and then headed on home. ALL WEEK I have been craving Mexican food so tonight was the night for greatness.

IMG_4172.JPG
I made a rockin’ shrimp burrito with a warmed up Ezekiel wrap, 1/2 c Amy’s vegetarian refried beans, shrimp that I sauteed in cooking spray, salt, pepper and hot sauce, salsa and lettuce.
I did this on purpose:

IMG_4176.JPG
Actually I didn’t but it would have been cool if I did. Looks like one of those fancy preparations that I had to do in culinary school. Truthfully, I sawed into this bad boy and in an effort to get burrito to mouth, smeared hot sauce all over the plate.
Dessert was truly HEAB-ified :)

Yes, my friends, that would be Heather’s protein ice cream in an empty almond butter jar. Heather, aren’t you proud?! Into the Vita Mix went 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cup soymilk, 1/2 tsp xanthan gum, pinch of sea salt, cinnamon, 1 T chia seeds, ice and a squirt of agave. It came out EXTRA fluffy tonight….thinking it was the chia? Was missing the chocolate chips…note to self: buy extra dark chocolate chips at the store. Stat.
And of course now I am chugging hot tea because I’m freezing after inhaling that. Typical.

G’nite!

How do you NOT have an ulcer with all of the hot sauce you eat!! My stomach would be killing me – you must have one mighty, iron stomach.

I think the people in Haiti could use something more practical than a prayer, like drinking water.

Mmm…fro yo looks good – it’s always so popular down there in the States hey? But what’s with the small cups ;) …love me some Mexican food – as long as there’s sauce, cheese, soft chewy bread, veggies…then I’m sold :)
Things seem to be going really well for you lately girl – you seem positive. Send some of that composure my way please if you have too much of it :)

I just made the protein icecream!! Mine came out more like a milkshake but still super tasty for a healthy night time snack. I can’t wait to play with the ingredients. I’m thinking a frozen banana would be a perfect addition and help with the frothiness. I made mine with Chocolate [vegan] rice protein, vanilla almond milk, 1T sucanat, ice, 1t chia, 1t cinnamon, ~10 almonds…Also thinking a tiny bit of coconut oil or butter or cacao bliss would be an amazing addition. Ohhh the possibilities..just like morning oats! =P

Hoooray for bloggie meet ups and fro yo!

I am glad the yoga is getting you back to your old self! I haven’t been on my mat in a really long time. I need to get back. I am supposed to go to a lunar class tonight with moon and earth salutations lit by candlelight. Sounds lovely after a long week.

Yay, blogger meet-ups! That frozen yogurt looks pretty outstanding. As does your innovative and delicious shrimp burrito.

I can’t even comprehend the amount of devastation that has hit Haiti. It is truly tragic, and I’m sending all my hopeful and warm thoughts to the people in Port-Au-Prince.

Mexican + ice-cream in an almond butter jar. Very proud. :)

In reference to your last post, nothing gets me out of breath like handstand prep work in yoga class. Mastered the headstand, but can’t do the handstand yet. However, just kicking my legs up over and over gets me out of breath. It’s awesome, I love it, and someday I will easily pop right up! :)

Ice cream is always good, twice is even better!

I really miss the froyo here in Europe, it’s just not popular here, I can’t even think of one froyo-store! I think I’ll have to introduce that concept here:)

It’s so exciting when you notice that you’ve gotten stronger! Empowering, too. You look great, Jenna!

The worsening news about Haiti makes my heart ache. What a devastating, devastating disaster. It is sad that it often takes a time of crisis to make you recognize how much you are thankful for, but that’s just how it goes. It is so easy to take your health, safety, and security for granted, considering them “givens” in life. Over the past few days, I’ve been reminded–whenever I turn on the news or read about the earthquake–just how incredibly fortunate I am. This privileged position encourages me to do what I can to support relief efforts.

I cannot get my head around the Haiti disaster. I live in the Caribbean (in Trinidad) and it’s mind-boggling to think that an island just like this one has been hit so catastrophically. It really does make you appreciate what you have.

And what others have–I am seriously appreciating your shrimp burrito.
