In Bed With The Bloggers

by jenna on September 27, 2009

Good morning!

I feel SO much better this morning…..I finally got some SLEEP! 7 1/2 hours of sleep, exactly, and it made all the difference in the world.

Somehow the night started off like this:

And ended like this:

And you know the sad thing? We got in bed at 9:30. We were SO tired!

To back up a little bit, the BlogHer Cocktail Party was as picturesque as can be, on top of the terrace at the St. Regis.

Kath and I immediately took advantage of the open bar and got COSMOS!

I drank mine and half of Kath’s because she decided she would rather be a true southerner and get bourbon (gross!). Here’s what I thought of her drink:

There was food but it was more like VERY light appetizers…..we didn’t want to spend any more money by going to dinner though, so we just grabbed whatever we could and made the best of it.

Spicy butternut squash bisque (I had two of these):

mini french onion sliders (had two of these also):

Braised beef with mushrooms:

These were totally the hit of the evening……I swear, they tasted just like mini spice cakes….SO delicious!

After the cocktail party, we hightailed it to ANOTHER after party so we could be among the first 150 in the door to get the free gift! And let me tell you, it was soooo worth it. Check out the GIFT!

This bag is stuffed FULL of absolutely amazing kitchen stuff…….great knives, kitchen timers, spatulas, dishclothes…heck, even a meat tenderizer. This couldn’t have worked out any better since I’m moving and don’t have anything for my new place! We were giddy with excitement!

And then we crashed at 9:30. Awesome. The hotel we are staying at is really cute but they were sold out of rooms with two beds so the three of us had to make do….poor Tina got the floor! :(

And then we were all up at 5:15! Our bodies are still on east coast time and Tina had to get to the airport ridiculously early. So, Kath and I made coffee and sat in bed to blog. For some reason this is incredibly funny to me: food bloggers in bed together….blogging.

I’m so lucky to have met such amazing friends through the blog! Kath and I have now traveled to Chicago, Boston and San Francisco together…..where to next?! 😉 Last night when we were all standing rooftop, sipping cocktails and looking out over San Francisco as the sun set, I couldn’t help but think this was pretty darn awesome. I LOVE this city!!!!!

Today is going to be hopefully quite relaxing! I’m meeting my cousin’s best friend, Tara, for brunch at Zuni at 11 and then heading back to BethT’s house to gather all my suitcases! Adam is picking me up there early this afternoon and then we are heading back up to Santa Rosa together since I’m sort of crashing his guest room for the next week until I move into my apartment. Thankfully I have some really good friends in the area already who are being so kind to take me in when I’m homeless! :)

Let the adventure continue!

PS – You should start thinking about changing your blog header to be more wine than bread! 😀 You are no longer a baker, my dear! You are a bonafide Wine-O!

I am in love with the dress.

I’m short and don’t know if I could pull off the long dress look.
Curious, how tall are you? Don’t think I’ve ever seen you post your height.

Shannon September 27, 2009 at 9:20 am

Cynthia (It All Changes) September 27, 2009 at 9:23 am

The idea of food bloggers in bed together blogging is quite comical to me too.

Did Tina volunteer for the floor? How nice of her :-)

It is so great for you to have such good friends thanks to blogging. I have some great friends from message boards and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

susan September 27, 2009 at 9:24 am

Lol tomato soup cupcakes?

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) September 27, 2009 at 11:35 am

Hi Jenna,

OK I’m totally laughing my ass off at the sight of you two sharing a bed with your eye masks on! 😀 I have to wear earplugs and eyemasks every night- even at home (can you say…Hubs is a snorer? Even the cat’s noises wake me up!)

Will you be living in Santa Rosa or Sonoma? My cousin lives in Sonoma and when I next visit her, I’ll contact you!

OK I’m with you on the straight bourbon- but if you must agree that a Mint Julep is the nectar of the gods!!!! :-)

jojo September 27, 2009 at 11:41 am

I love your dress!! <3

Liz September 27, 2009 at 11:43 am

You are really blessed for this wonderful opportunity and for having such great people in your life. But you already know that 😉 Have another wonderful day here in CA!

Melanie September 27, 2009 at 12:53 pm

You’re going to fall in love with the Bay Area if you haven’t already. I’ve lived here my whole life and I never want to leave! If you’re ever in the Berkeley/East Bay area, you should stop by Berkeley Bowl Marketplace (along with all the wonderful restaurants–there are SO MANY!) It’s a supermarket kind of like Whole Foods, but there is so much more variety in produce and the prices are much, much cheaper! As hard as I try, I can never stick to only buying the items on my grocery list when I’m there.

sarah September 27, 2009 at 1:09 pm

love your dress… you look so chic!

Cyclist Kate September 27, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Can I just say, I’m not looking forward to you being in the same time zone as me! I’ve gotten spoiled with you being three hours ahead so when I wake up and stumble to the computer to check e-mail and blogs you’ve usually started your posts already ;).

But really, I’m so, so excited for you. I love seeing friends embark on new beginnings.

And I totally sleep with an eye mask and ear plugs every.single.night. Can’t sleep without them!!

Jenny @JennyLikesToRun, healthy living blog :) September 27, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Denise September 27, 2009 at 9:49 pm

And I miss having you in the same time zone (I’m in Florida)!! I just realized tonight that I probably won’t get your nighttime post till tomorrow morning. Which sometimes happens anyone, but with all the excitement in your life right now….well I’m a bit impatient. Loved the Vlog….and hubby and I both loved the chugging grass one. Too funny!!! Yeah…he got a kick out of it when I turned my laptop his way. 😉

Cara (Cara Craves...) September 27, 2009 at 10:48 pm
