Wow, we are getting a late start today! I’m definitely blaming it on the A/C breaking last night, resulting in a late night trip for Ryan to Home Depot only to find out that they were already closed. So what do you do in a situation such as that? Two words my friends—Duck Tape. The A/C is now working temporarily because its duck taped together and apparently the guy is coming out at sometime today to fix it for real. Let’s hope so because you do NOT want your A/C to break during a Florida summer. Sometimes I think we could totally run our own reality tv show over here. God help us.
In other news, thank you all so much for the amazing weeknight dinner recipes!!! Everything looks SO GOOD! Keep ’em coming….if you didn’t get the memo send your easy weeknight dinner recipe to HelpJennaRun@gmail.com before Sunday, June 21st for it to be included in my next e-cookbook to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!
Ryan and I both made big Green Monsters for breakfast. It was sort of funny because we stood right next to each other and Ryan used his blender while I used the VitaMix. Ryan is not allowed to use the coveted VitaMix yet unless its a special occasion. Anyways, I think my GM was the BEST yet!
I used:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 scoop Amazing Meal
- 1/2 scoop Amazing Grass Wheatgrass
- 1 big scoop Naturally More pb
- about 3-4 cups organic spinach
- handful blueberries
- 1 cup almond milk
I LOVE bergamot. It just tastes so “dignified”…..this is my absolute favorite type of black tea! The tannins are minimal so you really don’t need sweetener at all. Try it for yourself!
To-Do List:
- Mail cookies to Amy (!!)
- Write True/Slant article
- Lunch with Ryan?
- Run 2 miles while watching Oprah
- Work on E-Cookbook
- Special projects!!

June 16, 2009 at 9:00 amI hope you get the A/C fixed soon! I am so lucky to live in the mountains where it’s relatively cool most of the summer – especially since my house and vehicle don’t have A/C!

June 16, 2009 at 9:13 amHi Jenna,
I was wondering how you ensure that you are productive during the day since you don’t have a regular 9-5 job? I just began my summer vacation (I’m a school social worker) but I still have a gazillion things on my to-do-list (to get ready for the next school year, etc) and it’s a bit of a challenge of me to get to them. Not having that structure during the day is tough for me! I’d love to hear how you make your own schedule and yet still get everything done – obviously you are doing something right! 🙂

June 16, 2009 at 9:14 amVal,
I write to-do lists every night before I go to bed on a yellow legal pad and then just cross things off as I go! I’m a big to-do list fan….it has always worked well for me!

June 16, 2009 at 9:14 amAlright, I’m determined to try this green monster. What’s the best one for a beginner who is very, very afraid? LOL

June 16, 2009 at 9:17 amHi Jenna, a friend showed me your blog and I am loving it so far! I’m from Orlando (Winter Park, actually) and I’ve been enjoying hearing about your wonderful eats. I have been thinking about ordering some of the chocolate Amazing Meal — have you tried that kind, or just the regular one? Anyhow, you’ve inspired me to try it! Also, good luck with that Murphy-Goode gig…I saw an article about it awhile ago. It sounds amazing! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. 🙂 (I’ll also keep my fingers crossed on the a/c — that’ no fun in tampa in june!)

June 16, 2009 at 9:19 amGood luck with everything! Have a great day!

June 16, 2009 at 9:31 amYIKES! Sorry to hear about the AC. Two summers ago, mine broke down on THE hottest day of the summer. Unfortunately, it was on a Saturday morning and the AC guy couldn’t come and fix it until Monday. It was pure torture at night! Try to stay cool today! 🙂
Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you. Enjoy it!
Natalie
June 16, 2009 at 9:37 amNo A/C will definitely make you suffer from heat laziness! I’m in Ft Lauderdale…and the A/C at my office breaks down about once a month. It makes things unbearable….especially now that it’s in the 90’s!
Meggilizz
June 16, 2009 at 9:38 amSounds like a great day ahead of you! 🙂 I have a question for you about hemp milk–have you tried both brands Manitoba & Living Harvest? I’m making the switch over to either almond or hemp milk & will decide when I go to Whole Foods tomorrow. I don’t have any allergies or anything, I’m doing Paleo and switched from cow milk to soy (not realizing that soy was NOT okay on Paleo). I am loving the GM’s too and totally agree that the scoop of Amazing Grass really IS AMAZING!! 😀 Hope you have a great day Jenna! ?
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 10:11 amMeggilizz,
I have not tried Manitoba hemp milk but I do live the living harvest! I don’t buy it though because its so expensive and to me, almond tastes (almost) as good. I think its almost $4 for a small box of hemp milk….crazy!

June 16, 2009 at 9:42 amMine broke twice last summer (and I live in New Orleans) and the second time it didn’t get fixed for a week because a hurricane disrupted the delivery of the part. It was awful! At least duct tape works temporarily for you! Ours was something electrical so there was no jury rigging it!

June 16, 2009 at 9:54 amsounds like a fun day ahead! I LOVE Earl Grey tea 🙂 Probably my favorite.
I love putting pasta right on raw spinach, too. I saw your dinner from last night and that’s one of my new favorite things to do – especially if I’m too lazy to put together a salad on the side!
Lori
June 16, 2009 at 10:06 amI love Earl Grey tea as well, the floral citrus note is just perfect!

June 16, 2009 at 10:14 amglad you were able to fix the A/C with Duct Tape! Sleeping while sweating is the worst!!

June 16, 2009 at 10:22 amI can’t believe I still haven’t tried a GM – I must get on that ASAP! It looks delicious!

June 16, 2009 at 10:24 amI’m so impressed with your green monsters! I am way too chicken to give them a try yet. Since I’m starting to think about these kinds of things now, don’t you think they would be an excellent breakfast for a pregnant woman since they are filled with fiber, nutrients, protein, and folic acid from the greens?!
April
June 16, 2009 at 10:27 amI think it’s cute how every green monster is the best one yet 🙂 I love them too!
Question for you. How long does you PB jar last? I’m just wondering because I use to have a problem and I would eat the whole jar in a day or 2. I just made a jar last for 14 days and i’m pround of myself 🙂

June 16, 2009 at 10:28 ammmm…sewage water. lol LOOKS GOOD!!!!

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen)
June 16, 2009 at 10:32 amGlad you were able to duct tape the A/C and cool off with a green monster! Is there a noticeable difference between GM made with a vita mix vs. a regular blender?
Jess
June 16, 2009 at 10:32 amI don’t think I’ve ever had an experience where the AC broke, but I bet it would be horrible! I’m so glad you were able to temporarily fix it 🙂 Love your GM!

June 16, 2009 at 10:34 amThat’s more the color of all my green monsters. It might look gross but they always taste delicious!

June 16, 2009 at 10:40 amI use greens in my smoothies and whenever I tell people what’s in my smoothie they always turn their nose up at it! They don’t understand that you don’t taste the greens at all! Green smoothies are the best!

June 16, 2009 at 11:23 amHi Jenna – Random question. I know you are an avid reader and have posted your favorite books before, but I was wondering what are some of the best books you’ve read in the past year or so? Thanks!

June 16, 2009 at 11:24 amI always need tea after a smoothie! They are so darn cold!

June 16, 2009 at 11:25 amI’m looking forward to my first green monster this weekend. I have to get a blender. Hopefully I’ll be able to find one with a powerful motor cuz I love fruit juice smoothies.
Hope your a/c gets fixed today. I remember how it was in New Orleans without air. No fun!!
Maria
June 16, 2009 at 11:31 amHi Jenna, I was wondering how long green smoothies keep you full and what elements of the smoothies do you think give that fill-factor? Thanks!
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 1:41 pmMaria,
Usually this smoothie combo keeps me full for about 3-4 hours. Smoothies never USED to keep me full….you sort of have to get used to it I guess. Now, whenever I have something else (like oatmeal) I feel TOO full and incredibly bloated all day. I think the combo of the healthy fats from the nut butter (I use a large scoop!) and the protein in the Amazing Meal really helps keep me going for hours!

June 16, 2009 at 11:43 amGlad you got your GM today! OUCH – no AC would truly suck, duct tape is a cure all though 😉

June 16, 2009 at 11:55 amhey jenna! how are ya? im sorry to hear about the ac!
i was jw if the suprise is that you have been mentioning has anything to do with the contest for the wine that you entered and should most definetly win and be a apart of! (its been a few weeks ;D) Im praying for ya and keepin my fingers crossed! 🙂
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 1:40 pmGina G,
It doesn’t have anything to do with wine, that I will tell you!! They announce the top 50 applicants in the next few days and I’m keeping my fingers crossed but honestly, if its meant to be, it will be. I’m not worried!
HeatherBakes
June 16, 2009 at 12:07 pmOh no! Our AC was out last week- yuck. Hope it gets fixed soon.
I’m sending you a recipe today!

June 16, 2009 at 12:13 pmjenna–do you think the amazing grass is worth buying?
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 1:39 pmRachel,
I do. Its help me quit caffeine all together and honestly after I have it in the morning I feel like I just had a double espresso–SO much energy. I’m not just saying that either. Ryan used to never be able to get out of bed in the morning and now he says he has soo much energy…he’s told all his friends and coworkers and they all see a difference in his energy levels as well!
Steph (Steph Runs the City)
June 16, 2009 at 12:30 pmduct tape is magical 🙂 your green monsters always look so good! i’ve only tried to make one once, and let’s just say it didn’t turn out so great. however, you keep saying that yours taste so good, so it inspires me to try again one of these days 🙂
Laura
June 16, 2009 at 12:45 pmHi Jenna,
What kind of blender does the boy use? I want to try the smoothies you make but was worried that a normal blender wouldn’t work as well as your Breville one and that the spinach wouldn’t get pulverized. Will a normal blender work just as well?? Thanks!
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 6:03 pmLaura,
He uses a Black and Decker Crush Master. Its actually MY old blender, which I bought at Target for about $40 two years ago. It still works like a charm and he loves it!
Shannon (The Daily Balance)
June 16, 2009 at 12:48 pmLOVE all these teas! I’m still working on getting off the splenda — I’m almost there! 😉
Em
June 16, 2009 at 12:55 pmJust a heads up – it’s “duct” tape.

June 16, 2009 at 1:03 pmThat would suck if my A/C broke! It’s hot here!
Ashley
June 16, 2009 at 1:29 pmI added the Amazing Grass meal product to my green monster. It was disgusting! I’m hoping my health food store gets more samples in of that brand. Tomorrow I’m going to try out the regular wheatgrass and am a bit nervous.
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 1:37 pmAshley,
Wow..I’m shocked. Neither Ryan and I can even taste that its there!
Stacey
June 16, 2009 at 1:40 pmI feel ya on the AC, the only thing I have is ONE window unit in my two bedroom house! I think I have sweated at least two pounds off this summer just by sitting at home!
That cup is so cute! The grass talk is making me a little nervous, but I can’t knock it till I’ve tried it 🙂
Meg
June 16, 2009 at 1:51 pmSorry about the A/C. Isn’t duct tape amazing?
I bet that smoothie was tasty!

June 16, 2009 at 2:18 pmSmoothies dont usually keep me full but I wonder if the PB would help? I’ll have to try it out!
Amanda
June 16, 2009 at 2:22 pmI hope that A/C gets fixed soon! A few summers ago, Jeff and I’s A/C went out in our apartment in Columbia, MO in the dead of summer. It was 90 degrees by 10am and being the crazy person I am, I did Tae Bo in the heat! haha
Katherine
June 16, 2009 at 2:31 pmI HAVE to try this Amazing Grass stuff soon!
I’m worried that my blender might be on its last blend. How much did your Breville cost, if you don’t mind me asking?
kat
June 16, 2009 at 3:16 pmI’m in love with your tea stash!! Did you put that together youreslf? what else do you have in there??
jenna
June 16, 2009 at 3:44 pmKat,
Nope—read my previous post and you will see that the entire stash was a gift from a friend! She bought me the box and stuffed it with an assortment of awesome tea for my birthday! 🙂
Michele | aka Raw Juice Girl
June 16, 2009 at 6:11 pmI love green smoothies!! There’s nothing, nothing, nothing like ’em! 🙂
Yours sounds really delicious. And I totally know what you mean about feeling more energetic with a lighter breakfast such as a green smoothie. It’s amazing how much lighter and more energetic I feel when I don’t have a heavier breakfast!

June 16, 2009 at 9:03 pmAww, our AC broke over the weekend too. We’ve been dying in the heat, but luckily just got it fixed today. 200$ down the tube, but it was worth it because I hear it is going to be super humid this weekend.
Glad you had a much better day!
