Joining The Club

by jenna on March 31, 2010

I have been nonstop all day, cleaning and packing. I hate, hate, HATE (!!) coming home to a dirty house. So, whenever I travel I always do my laundry before and wash my sheets so I have nice fresh sheets on my bed when I get home. I also clean, do dishes and organize. There’s nothing worse than coming home to a messy house when you are exhausted after a long day of traveling….and I already know that I am going to be exhausted next Wednesday when I come home after a looooong day of traveling.

The weather is AWFUL outside! Freezing and pouring rain. I did get a nice 2 mile run in though before it started to rain and also did some lunges and crunches. Before my workout I ate the only thing in my house—

That’s right—a classic almond butter and jelly sandwich on quinoa bread. Hits the spot, you know? After my workout I made a big green smoothie with spinach, 1 cup almond milk, 1 frozen banana, 1 scoop chocolate SuperFood and 1 tsp maca:

I also had an unpictured cappuccino and a few gummy bears. Gotta keep my energy up! πŸ˜‰

We were supposed to go out for Ethiopian food tonight with my friend Michaela and her husband but Michaela went home from work sick so plan be was Indian! I think Indian food Wednesdays are a common theme in the blogworld? Hehe

We started with some “indian snacks” (not quite sure what all exactly was on this fun little tray but I tried a little bit of everything!)

Baigan Bharta for dinner! mmmm + 1 piece of naan :)

Must sleeeeeeeeeeeep!!! I have a LONG day of traveling set for tomorrow.

In response to your comments earlier….sorry to keep ya hanging about the ever mysterious boyfriend. I have a feeling he will opt to come out of the blog closet soon…but you can’t rush these boys, can you? They have to come around on their own time. πŸ˜‰ In the meantime, I’ll tell you he’s totally cute and makes me smile.

The winner of the Avocate gift set is……Jessica Starkey! Jessica, send me your mailing address and we’ll get your products right out to you!

Wow, in a matter of hours, we’ve gone from “cute boy” to “cute boyfriend.” I expect to read an engagement announcement in the morning. Good night to you and your fiance! πŸ˜‰

I am exactly the same way with coming home to a messy house.. it’s just stressful! Another reason I’m in need of my open place :p

Tilly April 1, 2010 at 12:10 am

Nah Mama Pea … you know she’s totally heading to Vegas tomorrow. You know, like, totally. :p

Freya @ Brit Chick Runs April 1, 2010 at 12:38 am

I hate coming home to a dirty house too, but I don’t like my sheets to be totally fresh after I’vve been away a long time, cos then they don’t seem as familiar :p
Quinoa bread!Love it :)

Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] April 1, 2010 at 12:44 am

Jennie {in Wonderland} April 1, 2010 at 3:35 am

Congrats on the cute boyfriend! I am excited for you :-)
I have a cousin named Jessica Starkey, lol. There can’t be that many of them out there!!!!! Is she Canadian, by any chance? I would ask her, but if it’s not her, she might think I’m nuts, bahaha.

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is April 1, 2010 at 3:37 am

Have a safe day of traveling, Jenna! :)

Stacey April 1, 2010 at 3:57 am

I always have to come home to a clean house, it’s a must.

Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) April 1, 2010 at 4:00 am

Hope your travels go safely and smoothly! That Indian food looks mah-velous! Any kind of Indian food themed day gets the thumb up from me.

And yes, just like with slow cooking steel cut outs, boys can’t be rushed. Take your time!

eatmovelove April 1, 2010 at 4:13 am

Wow – bringing romance into the blog!
Do you ever worry about sharing your life with so many Jenna or get “tired of it” – or is it just another thing for you?
I recently seen a book called “A Homemade Life” about a blogger turned into a book writer (Molly Wizenberg I think) – might be interesting too…uh, could someone pay me for that deal?! haha – I’d actually have to blog daily to do that…alas work and life detracts from that…Happy vacay.

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg April 1, 2010 at 4:45 am

Ahhh, I love cute boyfriends who make you smile :-)

Come out and meet us, cute boyfriend! We’re not THAT scary!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) April 1, 2010 at 4:58 am

Hmm from cute boy to cute boyfriend… haha how exciting! Glad he’s makin ya smile.

Jil April 1, 2010 at 5:16 am

Awww – glad you’re happy!! And that Indian meal looks amazing!

Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin April 1, 2010 at 5:19 am

I need your motivation about cleaning the house before leaving. I hate coming home to a dirty house too but I’m always running around like a crazy person packing before I go so I never make the time to clean, too!

MMiller April 1, 2010 at 5:25 am

That’s what it’s all about…a boy that makes you smile! Can’t wait to find out who it is! I also love coming home to a clean house and clean sheets! And I have got to find that Quinoa bread! It is a must try! Loved the millet bread when I found that!

Safe travels Jenna…enjoy your Spring Break!

M. April 1, 2010 at 5:31 am

happy Jenna is what makes us readers smile :)

And it’s not like introducing the boy to “a few friends” when you have a popular blog and we all somehow think in our minds we are a virtual pal of yours-hee hee! Silly blog readers us!!

On a serious note, thinking of your family and sending you lots of prayers and thoughts as April approaches. I can’t even imagine how much you and your parents miss your beloved brother.Very tragic and I am inspired by your family’s strength and love pulling you all forward in life’s journey. He is with you all obviously wherever you go,surfing away and watching over you.

Mom April 1, 2010 at 5:36 am

See you at midnight! XXoX

Jenna April 1, 2010 at 5:51 am

Have fun at home and yaaa to the boy πŸ˜‰

Come out, come out cute boy! We’d love to meet you :)

Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly April 1, 2010 at 6:06 am

Yay for the cute boy!! :) Also I totally agree about coming home to a clean house. There is nothing worse than coming from a vacation to a dirty house!

Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman April 1, 2010 at 6:09 am

My husband never understands my rational for cleaning the house before we leave for a vacation. He always asks, β€œSo are you cleaning in case someone robs us? Because that’s dumb.” Yeah, so guys don’t get it. But I totally agree. Coming how to a messy house is so stressful!

diana(mymarblerye) April 1, 2010 at 6:11 am

i should join in on indian wednesdays. Anyways, I’m sure cute boy will wanna be on your blog soon..I mean, he doesn’t wanna disappoint thousands of readers…does he?

Krystina (Organically Me) April 1, 2010 at 6:12 am

I was thinking of making Indian food for dinner and this blog is totally making me crave it even more.

diana@mymarblerye April 1, 2010 at 6:12 am

I should join Indian Wednesdays with you…mmm…so creamy. Anyways, I’m sure cute boy will wanna be “outed” on your blog soon..I mean…he doesn’t wanna let down THOUSANDS of readers..does he?

Angharad April 1, 2010 at 6:34 am

Oh boy, I am exactly the same way about coming home to a messy house: I don’t always completely get my shiz together in time but no dirty dishes is a MUST!

Also: Indian food – yessss! I’ve made Baingan Bharta at home but I’ve never ordered it out: need to rectify that! Have an amazing trip home!

maura April 1, 2010 at 6:38 am

Hey Jenna and (Jennie),
Jenna- Thanks so much for the prize!! I’ve emailed you my info.
Yes, Jen- it’s me, your cousin from Canada, who’s the Jessica Starkey that won :) And I’ve also recently started a blog! Guess it runs in the family?

Lauren @ louisianagrown April 1, 2010 at 6:50 am

I hope all of your traveling is safe today!

Katharine April 1, 2010 at 6:55 am

Can’t wait to find out who the mystery guy is! But it’s so awesome that he makes you happy – that’s what matters most. :)

OK Chick April 1, 2010 at 7:06 am

I just discovered your blog and have enjoyed reading old post. I’m always looking for new in Blogger World that love healthy food! I sometimes steal their recipes. :)

Carolyn @ lovinlosing April 1, 2010 at 7:17 am

I’m not the neatest person in the world (by far) but even I like to straighten up and clean before leaving town. Makes coming home so much nicer.

Morgan @ Life After Bagels April 1, 2010 at 7:23 am

well it’s very kind of you to let him “come out” on his terms. My bf doesn’t get a choice, I feature him on the blog all the time and it’s hilarious hahaha!

Heather (Heather's Dish) April 1, 2010 at 7:25 am

i’m just glad you found a guy that is cute and makes you smile…that’s so exciting! hope you have a wonderful day!

Cynthia (It All Changes) April 1, 2010 at 7:49 am

I’m glad you have a boy who makes you smile. I’d be scared to be revealed to all of us too :-)

Enjoy your travel. I’m totally cleaning my house today since we will be gone overnight and don’t want to come home to a dirty house.

Lauren @ Eater not a runner April 1, 2010 at 7:52 am

Exciting about the cute new bf πŸ˜‰ And indian food is ALWAYS a good choice!

Midgetkeeper April 1, 2010 at 8:03 am

I hope you have a great trip!

Kathleen April 1, 2010 at 8:05 am

Have a great trip and I’m so excited about the boyfriend! I have been dating mine for 5 years and been blogging off and on for a majority of that time and he has refused to come out of his blog closet…he’s in there with chains and huge locks on the door!

Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries April 1, 2010 at 8:23 am

Jenna, where do you found quinoa bread?

Stephanie April 1, 2010 at 8:31 am

grace April 1, 2010 at 9:15 am

jenna April 1, 2010 at 1:27 pm

Quinoa bread is from Trader Joe’s……and my neighbor is watching Dexter! :)

Reply April 1, 2010 at 9:30 am

i like things to be nice and tidy too when i come back. who is watching dexter? hope you have a good flight :)

Kelly April 1, 2010 at 10:14 am

I have been meaning to try baigan bharta at our local Indian place sometime but I don’t know if I’ve ever had eggplant so I am a bit worried that it will be a bad choice if I end up not liking it! I keep seeing it around the blogworld though so it must be good! I don’t think I’d be led astray! πŸ˜‰

Love hearing about the cute boy aka boyfriend! Have a great trip home!!

Diana @ frontyardfoodie April 1, 2010 at 10:45 am

I’m totally the same way about cleaning before leaving for a trip. Totally sucks coming home to a messy house.

I don’t need to know who your boy toy is so long as you’re happy:) So adorable. hehe

Amanda @ Cakes and Ale April 1, 2010 at 10:48 am

Obsessed with Indian food… I love those little crunchy cracker sheets that come with the apps… I like to dip them in the green and red sauces… mmmm

Laura Georgina April 1, 2010 at 11:01 am

I’m the same way about cleaning before I travel. It’s a pain because it’s not like you don’t have enough to do before leaving, right? But so worth it to come home and actually want to BE at home :-)

Rebecca @ How the Cookies Crumble April 1, 2010 at 11:24 am

Mmmmmm! Love Indian food!

Suzanne de Cornelia April 1, 2010 at 11:25 am

Am wondering if mystery BF’s name starts with an ‘A.’ I guessed your other big surprise–the reason for NY trip, so if this is correct, think I should get a prize. Suppose it will be an invisible prize going with the theme of non-existent contest. :)

Joelle (The Pancake Girl) April 1, 2010 at 11:28 am

Ugh AGREED- I hate leaving for a trip and returning to a mess! Who wants to clean after returning from a fun vacay?

Sarah-Mae April 1, 2010 at 11:32 am

Adam April 1, 2010 at 12:38 pm

I love indian food, and a pb & j hits the spot any time!

T April 1, 2010 at 12:55 pm

I havent been keeping up very well. I thought you were moving to France for a few months and I thought I remembered you saying you were moving back home. Of course, these could all be in my imagination or confused with another blogger =)

If one of these is true — are you taking your new boyfriend with you?

It’s always my luck to meet someone just as Im leaving.

Cole April 1, 2010 at 1:05 pm

Mmm, Indian food. Safe travels!

Michaela April 1, 2010 at 4:38 pm

Congrats on the ‘mysterious boyfriend’! All that matters is that he makes you happy : )
