Wow…….I take back what I said on my earlier post.
I THOUGHT I was in shape until I did that yoga class today!!! Man oh man, it kicked my patooty. I was sweating the whole time and fell going from flipping my downward facing dog into full wheel, which I have done a thousand times but not in the past month…..er…..year? I’m pretty sure I will be mighty sore tomorrow. That just means its time for Jenna to get back in yoga shape!!! This class was very challenging and definitely advanced…going from posture to posture quickly and, er, effortlessly. By the end I was sweaty, tired and hungry so I made french toast for din-din.
I used two slices of Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread and dipped them into a mixture of 1 egg + 1 white, a splash of silk, a ton of cinnamon and a tbsp of ground flax. Topped with the pure stuff and a bananer on the side. As Rachel would say, YUMO!
I showered and relaxed for awhile…annoyed that I am STILL coughing and sniffing…and then had dessert while packing lunch for tomorrow
I took home the, er, “extra” ginger cookies today….ones that we couldn’t use because they were too small to serve. Usually, our cookies are 3 oz raw dough weight and these are much smaller than that. Bad for them, good for me! They are soooo chewy and soft…I just love them! I also made some hot cocoa with a mug of silk light vanilla and a couple spoonfuls of this:
Sigh. Sadly I have never been to a Trader Joes but apparently my “parents” have! I found this in the fridge. The hot cocoa tasted amazing but now I am coughing harder than ever and my throat is all itchy. Weird! That has never happened before when I drank hot chocolate!
I am off to work on my bible study and read bread stuff. I’m trying to learn everything I possibly can before I start the new job!
Definitely just ate another cookie…but you didn’t see me so it didn’t count! 😉

December 11, 2008 at 6:37 pmJenna,
I love just popping on the net for a sec and reading about your yoga adventures and food fabulousness!
Flipped DOG! LOVE that pose! In fact, just this week I was working with a girl to flip the dog. Recently (when in Florida!) with Baron Baptiste, I did a flipped dog into full wheel and wanted to squeal with delight. My girlfriends who went to the yoga day with me were so excited along with me. Isn’t yoga so fun? I still giggle when people think it’s only stretching. 😉
Your french toast looked yummy by the way.

December 11, 2008 at 7:15 pmHI jenna- I was wondering if you could recommend any websites/ videos/ information for beginner yoga? I would love to incorporate it into my fitness routine! Thanks bunches, I hope that you feel 100% soon!!

December 11, 2008 at 7:24 pmKatieK,
Honestly, if you have never practiced before, I highly recommend first going in and taking a class in a yoga studio so you can learn the correct postures. Once you feel comfortable, yogadowload.com has a ton of beginner classes! Or you could get a a dvd at, like, Target! But take a class first, for sure 🙂

December 11, 2008 at 7:29 pmLove hot cocoa. Hope you feel better!! Thanks for turning me onto yogadownloads. I do a few of their classes a week!

December 11, 2008 at 7:37 pmI won’t even try to hide it – my favorite yoga pose is child’s pose! I can’t stand downward facing dog whatsoever!

December 11, 2008 at 8:05 pmOh wow – I can’t believe you’ve never been to a TJ’s! You’d love it. I hope one comes to your area!

December 11, 2008 at 8:09 pmI think dairy products, such as milk, increase mucus, thus the coughing and itchy throat!
Kelsey
December 11, 2008 at 8:09 pmI meant hot chocolate, not milk…unless you made it with milk? But my guess is that there is dairy in the mix.

December 11, 2008 at 8:12 pmHey Jenna,
Your yoga sounds great! Just wondering if you have ever worn your HRM while doing yoga to see what the calorie burn is? Have a relaxing night!

December 11, 2008 at 8:14 pmNever been to Trader Joe’s? Sadness. Nashville just got one, and I’ve been there at least once a week since it opened. Hopefully, will spread the love around Florida soon. At least you have Greenwise. I’ve never seen one. Hope you’re not too sore tomorrow!

December 11, 2008 at 9:12 pmI haven’t eaten a pear since I was a little girl and I want to try it again! Jenna, I know you eat them often….which kind should I get? I was at Whole Foods yesterday and they had different ones! What is the difference between the colors/tastes? Anyone have any advice for me? Jenna? THANK YOU!!!! 🙂

December 11, 2008 at 10:04 pmI heart Trader Joes..it is THE best store ever. SO cheap yet so good
kim
December 11, 2008 at 10:10 pmI love pears! Yes, there are so many different kinds, so that depends on the texture you prefer. If you like a moist, juicy one, try Anjou pear. If you like a hard, crispy one, try Barlett. Bosc (the yellow skin) is my favorite. It can be crispy and juicy. Pinch the skin a bit to see which one you prefer. But don’t bruise them or the store might make you pay for it. 🙂 Enjoy!

December 11, 2008 at 10:22 pmI had no idea you have not been to a TJ’s. Boo. If FL had TJ’s I would be more willing to more there.

December 12, 2008 at 5:22 amAmanda,
No…I don’t wear my HRM when I practice yoga. It takes something away from the practice to me so I never do. Sorry!

December 12, 2008 at 8:12 amHope your throat feels better. That sounds like what happens to my roomate when she eats nuts (she has an allergy) so hopefully you arent having a reaction. 🙁
Lindsey
December 12, 2008 at 9:38 amI’ve been buying silk over milk for a few weeks now, and I’m wondering how you heated it up for your hot chocolate. A little bit less than H2O in the microwave? low heat on the stovetop?
Thanks! I’m glad you’re recovering.

December 12, 2008 at 10:03 amIt is such a difference after going from Yoga every day to once or twice a week for me! I felt my flexibility change and my strength as well. I should start gradually getting back into it again or else I’ll break a bone, haha

December 12, 2008 at 2:04 pmGlad you posted about yoga last night. I set my alarm a little early and did one of my free 20 minute classes (Power Yoga) from yogadownloads.com. It was such a nice way to wake up! Hope your day went well 🙂

December 12, 2008 at 3:09 pmSo…when you are flipping your down dog into full wheel…what does that entail? I’m not a big yoga person, and I was just wondering of that essentially involved press up into a handstand, over the top and back down into the full wheel/back bend? cause wow…talk about impressive muscle control.
jenna
December 12, 2008 at 5:26 pmLindsey,
Most of the time I do like to prepare it stovetop (for no apparent reason other than its cute and old fashioned) but last night I just zapped the milk in the micro then stirred in the chocolate!
Catherine,
I have no idea what it was! That was very weird!
Allison,
When you flip your down dog you lift one leg in the air behind you then flip yourself over to a single-handed wheel. To go into a full wheel from there (which is HARD!!!), you have to bring your other arm, which is up in the air, down to meet the one on the floor so you are extended up into a full back bend/wheel pose. Then try getting up gracefully! It DOES take a ton of muscle control! Yoga is definitely not for wimps! 🙂
