Breakfast

Lazy Morning

You all are too sweet with all your comments on my cake! If it were real I would share it with all of you but I don’t think anyone wants to take a bite of styrofoam. It makes me really want to actually make a really wedding cake though….I wonder if it would be easier or harder to decorate. My chef said it would be easier because the cake would have more give than the hard styrofoam when covering it with fondant (that was my most difficult part!!). I just need a reason to make a real cake now! I hope this cake really is good because I’m going to print out photos of it to take to my interview in a couple weeks and also start my portfolio with, which is something we are reminded that we should be starting to do. People want to see pictures of your work before they hire you, of course!

I slept in until around 8:30 this morning and it felt great, other than the occasional leap of Dexter on my head as he tried to wake me up. He’s so strange….in the early mornings he just sleeps on my bed or my floor until I wake up and then its like all hell breaks loose with him racing around the house, chasing toys, eating his breakfast, jumping on the couch…but he’s so cute it doesn’t matter. I’m a sucker.

For breakfast I made a smoothie using about 12 ounces soy milk, 1 frozen banana, 5 frozen strawberries as well as a tbsp of ground flax. I had it with a toasted english muffin with raspberry jam. I’m still lounging about in bed, reading and catching up on emails, but I am about to get up and head to Whole Foods where I will be sure to wander for at least an hour or so.

Please excuse this ridiculous question but… how do you freeze bananas? Do you freeze them with or without the skin?? Haha… sorry if this is nuts… I just think it’s a great idea… but not sure if there’s a protocol haha.

    Mmmm. styrofoam. 😉

In all seriousness though, I love your cake. It’s beautiful. Have a great lazy morning!

Katie – I take the skin off, cut them into slices (for smoothies) and then freeze them. It helps the smoothie have a thicker consistency.
