Living It Up, Summit-Style

by jenna on August 14, 2009

Good morning!!

I am having a BLAST up here in Boston-town! I really really love this city! Yesterday we walked exactly 6 miles (so says Kath’s iphone) and along the way we did tons of exploring!

It was chilly! I couldn’t believe I was wearing a sweater and jeans in August. How awesome!
At 4:00 we met a bunch of awesome readers at none other than the famous JP Licks for a little ice cream break!

And I had a date! :)

Isn’t this the cutest child you have ever seen??!! I think I might have creeped Sammie out because I loved her son so much. Declan, you rock!

Speaking of rocking, my mint oreo frozen yogurt certainly did just that. This was a small but was the size of my head!

We all agreed it was the BEST frozen yogurt that we had EVER had. So creamy and delicious! There’s definitely a plan to go back for more on Sunday….
After our little ice cream social, Tina, Kath and I huddled on a park bench and had a conference call with none other than Bob Greene of “The Best Life Diet”! How crazy is that?! Bob is Oprah’s nutritionist and we were secretly hoping she was going to get on the phone. She did not. Sigh. It was still interesting though!

LOVE all the breathtaking architecture here!

So we showered and blogged and then look who I finally ran into!!!!!!!!!!!

Our other halves!!! Caitlin, Meghann and Meghann’s sis, Kelly, finally arrived after a delayed flight! Caitlin brought us each antique spoons. Love this girl.
And I split a glass of Pinot Grigio with Kath at The Rustic Kitchen….where our “super exclusive cocktail party” will be tonight. No details yet but, guys, this place is AWESOME. The atmosphere was the best…we are going to have a great time!

After we all were reunited as one (love these girls), we walked the mile to our awesome dinner location:

The wonderful owners of Petit Robert Bistro treated the seven of us to a wonderful, wonderful French dinner! The theme of the evening (of course) was healthy and we got awesome vegetarian dishes that the chef created especially for us! The girls put me in charge of ordering all the wine….

(add one more bottle of the MacMurray Ranch on there as well…….)
Great fun!

And AWESOME french bread! :)

I chose the “Vegetable Pate” as my appetizer because it sounded so interesting. We also got two huge bowls of mussels brought to the table, which I devoured. Mussels are, strangely, one of my favorite foods but I rarely find other people that like them!

There are few finer things in life than smooshing hot french bread in delicious garlic mussel broth. SO SO SO good!
As for my entree, I opted for “White Beans in Pistou”, which totally blew me away.
This beat any expectation I had (I was worried it wouldn’t fill me up!)… was basically like a big, hot potato pancake (but made with white beans) surrounded by a traditional French pistou sauce. The “croquette” as I shall call it was seasoned absolutely perfectly, which totally made the dish.

Dessert was a trio of sorbets with fresh fruit. I was quite stuffed and only had a few bites but it, of course, was delicious!

Caitlin, Tina, Kath and I were lazy bums and hailed a cab home while the other girls walked. I finally made it to bed a little after midnight and this morning woke up at 5:50! Bah??! I have no idea why but strangely I have a lot of energy. Perhaps because yesterday before dinner I chugged this lovely Amazing Grass concoction?

And I’m about to have another!!!!! I SWEAR this stuff is a life saver for traveling….it kept me going when I was running on literally NO sleep while in California last month. I always feel great and have learned to almost enjoy the lovely swamp taste 😉

I’m headed downstairs now to meet all the girls and head over to Healthworks for a little workout, Summit-style. Tina was awesome enough to score us sweet passes to the gym all weekend…thanks Tina! After that we are coming back, showering and going to breakfast then meeting with the event planner for tomorrow’s festivities. Crazy, crazy stuff and I feel so blessed to be here!
I’m off!!! I hope everyone has a lovely Friday and I can’t wait to meet 110 of you this evening at our cocktail party!!! Hopefully I can get a nap in before then….or just chug more Amazing Grass!

Your white beans in pistou look so creative and delicious! I am also running on very little sleep this week, but all of the fun activities are worth it :-) Perhaps a little morning workout will wake me up…

Jilian August 14, 2009 at 7:40 am

Petit Robert is AMAZING…easily the best, most authentic, and affordable restaurant in Boston!

Jilian August 14, 2009 at 7:41 am

Oh…and I should say French** restaurant. haha Oops.

Nina August 14, 2009 at 7:43 am

I already said this on Caitlin’s blog, but I’ll say it again. Petit Robert was the first restaurant I went to when I first moved to Boston! hehe

Wow! Dinner looks awesome! I have lived in this city my whole life and have never been there. I will have to add it to my list.

The Fozen Yogurt at JP Licks was the best. It was so awesome to meet you guys. I can’t want to meet Caitlin and Meghann tonight.
Enjoy your class at Healthworks!

Fun night! Mussels are my favorite favorite! If they are on the menu, I always order them for my entree. And if the bread is as good as yours looked, then I am sure the dipping was amazing! Have a great time at the HLS!

I love Boston. All the pix are SO cool! Used to go there often for biz. That was AMAZING re Petit Robert…I’ll put some of the pix w/photo credit etc on my FB page so can spread the word what a nice thing they did.

BTW–sweater in Boston? San Francisco/Monterey are often freezing in July/Aug….we’ve been wearing heavy sweaters on coastal walks! Sept is San Francisco’s hot month.

AWESOME trip!!

Caitlin August 14, 2009 at 9:47 am

Sounds like the time of your lives!! Enjoy!!

Deva August 14, 2009 at 9:48 am

So many awesome pictures. Have fun at your workout!

Lisa August 14, 2009 at 9:51 am

It looks like your having a great time in Boston! I love that JP Licks! If you go at night all the biker boys hang out there. My favorite tea place (TeaLuxe) is further down on Newbury St, which I highly recommend if you have the time and inclination.

Suzanne de Cornelia August 14, 2009 at 9:52 am

PS Thank you for the Amazing Green drink link….I was looking for something like that so don’t have to go to Jamba Juice at $2 a whack for 2 daily oz.!

Cynthia (It all changes) August 14, 2009 at 9:53 am

That food is such a great reminder that french food can be yummy and healthy. I’m so jealous of the fun you ladies will be having this weekend. Enjoy and I can’t wait to read the updates :-)

Angharad August 14, 2009 at 10:18 am

Lack of sleep is killing me this week! It’s the worst when you’re traveling and all you want is to feel and look your freshest. Looks like you are having so much fun already! What a special experience. Crazy that you are meeting 110 bloggers, etc tonight! Have fun!

Winnie August 14, 2009 at 1:26 pm

I have been reading your blog for the past month and so amazed by all you and your fellow healthy bloggers have accomplished thus far. You have inspired me to take up running and make better choices in my life. Thank you!

Amanda @ Cakes and Ale August 14, 2009 at 1:54 pm

I LOVE mussels! I feel like sometimes people are just scared of them, but once they try them, it’s like their mind is totally blown!
I order them in restaurants all the time, but I also enjoy making them with home, mariniere-style!

claire August 14, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Ah, you are making me miss boston so much! I left after college and was a loyal Healthworks member…best atmosphere of any gym I’ve been to. It seems like you ladies are enjoying the city and I love vicariously visiting through you! Say hi to the charles for me!

britt August 14, 2009 at 3:15 pm

boston looks beautiful. this looks like such an amazing experience, being with so many strong, healthy women that have a common goal.

Bev August 14, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Love the pic of you by the statues… :)

Whitney August 15, 2009 at 1:09 am

I am sad I did not make the JP Licks run Thursday. That looks awesome. The .000008 seconds I met you tonight, well it was nice meeting you! 😉

Liz September 25, 2010 at 9:14 am

I know this post is way old… just happened upon it. I just wanted to mention that I am from that area and got married there exactly a week after this post… and it was high 80s, low 90s. We’d had a freakish summer – cold and rainy for literally MONTHS… but it turned around right after you left! We were relieved about no rain for the wedding!
