This morning’s giveaway is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself.
Have you heard of Minted? If not, you’re missing out! Minted is a community that brings together thousands of designers in one place, allowing you to create your dream cards and invitations. All Minted products are printed on high quality paper with fresh designs that are easily customizable. Their photo cards are a favorite of mine! We plan to order our holiday cards next week after we {finally} take our Christmas photo.
I’ve gotten to explore all the thousands of Minted designs over the past month or so and just love them all. Right now, my current favorite for our cards is this design with the gold foil. So simple and pretty!
Today I’m SO excited to be giving away $100 in Minted credit to four lucky ELR winners! That comes out to each about 50 holiday cards of your choice. Amazing, huh?
I don’t know how you’ll ever choose what to do with your credit if you win since there’s so many designs to choose from. If you’re a paper product junkie like me, you could stay on their site browsing for hours and hours.
This giveaway will run until Friday, Nov 15th. Four winners will be chosen at random and notified this weekend. Also, be sure to enter the code EATLIVERUN15 for a special 15% discount on all holiday card orders today through next Wednesday.

November 13, 2013 at 5:11 amWe celebrate Christmas twice! Half of my family celebrates on December 25th and the other side celebrates based on the Old Calendar (Julian Calendar) on January 7th. I love this because it extends the season and each Christmas feels a bit different. When we celebrate on the 25th it feels more modern for me. When we celebrate on January 7th, it feels more traditional and old-school, reminiscent of what my grandparents would have done back in Europe. Plus, twice as much delicious food! 🙂
Jessica K
November 13, 2013 at 5:11 amMy husband spends hours every year putting lights up on the house and the trees just like Clark Griswold. It’s awesome! Our kids love it and so do all the neighbors. They all tell us they look forward to it every year.

November 13, 2013 at 5:15 amNow that I have my own little family, I am starting some of our own traditions. On Christmas Eve night, my son gets a package that was sent to him express mail by Santa 🙂 — in it, includes: new christmasy pajamas and a new Christmas book to read together. And we know he’ll look super adorable the next morning in our photos of him opening presents!

November 13, 2013 at 5:18 amfor the longest time my brother and I would wake up SUPER early (like 3 AM) Christmas morning and rush downstairs to the tree, where we would then wait until 6 or 7 to wake our parents up and start the festivities 😛 This tradition ended last year lol

November 13, 2013 at 5:18 amWe used to travel a long distance to visit extended family on Christmas, so to fight some of the boredom my Mom would put together stockings for use to open in the car. We’d get one present for each hour of driving. I’m 24 now, and though we don’t travel each year anymore, we still get a stocking full of little gifts!

Kelly J. R.
November 13, 2013 at 5:19 amMy family is not really into traditions but I guess our family Christmas party White Elephant gift exchange is something that people dread every year. You never know what horrible thing you may go home with. One year my cousin’s biker boyfriend got a pair of red satin thong underwear.
Lea
November 13, 2013 at 5:22 amMy husband didn’t have a very good childhood (which lended itself to having really bad holidays), so since we’ve been married I have tried to place a special emphasis on making our traditions. The Sunday after Thanksgiving, we make cider and spend the afternoon decorating the tree, followed by watching a Christmas movie. On Christmas Eve afternoon I make a platter of chips, meat, and cheese and we snack while calling family before heading off to church, then we drive around looking at lights. I’ve got a few other ideas up my sleeve to implement this year too!
Sarah S.
November 13, 2013 at 5:23 amEverything has gotten a bit crazy with extended family options. :/

November 13, 2013 at 5:33 amWhat a great giveaway, I hadn’t hear of Minted! About 5-6 years ago parents bought my daughter beautiful wooden Advent calendar that’s shaped like a house. There are 24 doors – and while this has become my 10 year olds fav tradition, it’s getting hard for me to fill each door!

November 13, 2013 at 6:20 amHmmm…we eat the same foods for Christmas morning every year, which I love! A typical egg casserole, and a more unique creamy peach (canned peaches – strange but so good in this!) dish, which is amazing.
Kesley
November 13, 2013 at 6:21 amFood, we eat a lot of it. I love how the holidays revolve around good food, good company, and good drinks!

November 13, 2013 at 6:27 amWe are starting to make new traditions in our baby family and every year we hang Christmas lights and go pick our tree and decorate it. We add new little things we like each year.
Kate
November 13, 2013 at 6:27 amMy family has lots of holiday traditions, but my favorites all revolve around food (unsurprisingly). My mom always makes my favorite appetizer in the world: buttered toast points topped with parmesan cream cheese, smoked salmon, and a sprig of dill, baked until the cream cheese puffs and browns. They are ambrosial!
Charlsi
November 13, 2013 at 6:27 am(if there is snow) we take the kids sledding a day right before or after Christmas, when we are off from work.

November 13, 2013 at 6:29 amLOVE these cards! I am getting so excited for Christmas. Most of our traditions revolve around food (of course). Beer cheese soup for dinner on Christmas Eve and wonderful baked French toast in the morning. I love how my mom gets so excited to cook for us all.

November 13, 2013 at 6:29 amGosh I love Christmas time! A lot of my family lives on the same driveway (my parents, maternal grandparents, an aunt and uncle) and others live nearby. Christmas eve we all go to my parent’s house for dinner. Then Christmas morning after waiting at the top of the steps with my sisters then opening gifts, we all go to my aunt’s house for a Christmas brunch (complete with stuffed French toast-delicious!) We then all split ways for the afternoon to rest or share our gifts with others, and then get together again for dinner at my grandparent’s house. It’s always a great time to spend with family!

November 13, 2013 at 6:30 amMy family has only a few small traditions however, I recently got engaged to my boyfriend of 10 years! We are now treading water on how best to start new traditions as well as meeting each family halfway on theirs! Wish me luck!

November 13, 2013 at 6:31 amwe always spend christmas eve and morning with my family (lots of coffee and brunch!), and with my husband’s family on christmas day. i’m excited to see how our own traditions start to take shape over the years!

November 13, 2013 at 6:31 amA new one for us is running in a Turkey Trot. My dad and I trained and ran in our first half marathon last year, but it all started with a first 5k. We’ll run 10k and then feast on Thanksgiving again this year!
Kristina N.
November 13, 2013 at 6:33 amWe usually spend Christmas Eve with my side of the family and Christmas Day with my husband’s side. Although my husband and I have kind of started a tradition of going out of town for Christmas – just the two of us. Our moms aren’t always thrilled, but we love it 🙂
Cindy @theflippingcouple
November 13, 2013 at 6:33 amWe have a lot! But one of my favorites is from when we were kids. The three of us kiddos would get up around 4 in the morning and go downstairs and hang out around the Christmas tree and open our stockings. We would just talk and drink cocoa and soak up the morning until 7am. We couldn’t wake our parents up any earlier, but you better believe we were at their bedside at 7 on the dot!
Laura
November 13, 2013 at 6:34 amMy family has lots of holiday traditions but one of my favorites is dressing up and going to the nutcracker ballet! I love it!

November 13, 2013 at 6:35 amI love the holidays even if I’m jewish and when I was a kid, we often had a dinner where we invited friends of all faiths. It was lovely.

November 13, 2013 at 6:37 amWhen I was little, my mom did “12 days of Christmas”. My sister and I would receive a book each day for the 12 days leading up to Christmas. Fun way to encourage reading!

November 13, 2013 at 6:38 amChristmas Eve we have dinner with extended family. Everyone brings their best and/or favorite dish to share. Then we go to candlelight service where O Holy Night and Silent Night are always sung. Afterwards, we return home and open all the presents. Christmas Day is all about relaxing and eating some more!

November 13, 2013 at 6:38 amI’m the oldest and have 3 younger sisters. Every year, we get together at a sister’s house for a Christmas slumber party and wear matching PJs, eat pizza, and make desserts! 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 6:46 amOne of our favorite holiday traditions is writing a “journal” entry in permanent marker on the plastic bins that we keep our decorations in. When it’s time to bring the decorations up from the basement, its fun to see what we were doing at that same time last year!

November 13, 2013 at 6:51 amOne of my favorite Christmas traditions is our Christmas Eve celebration at my grandparents’ house. I used to get so excited when I was a kid that the day seemed to drag on and on. Now that I live far away from my family, I cherish the time even more!
Suzanne
November 13, 2013 at 6:53 amChristmas Eve we have a sandwich making feast, complete with lots of yummy dips, chips, and side salads. I love a good food tradish! 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 6:54 amWe always have an amazing breakfast Christmas morning! With quiche, cheese grits, sausage balls and homemade biscuits!
Kate
November 13, 2013 at 6:55 amMy parents used to always have an awesome Christmas Eve party. We would go to Midnight Mass afterwards, which is probably my favorite time to go to church all year. Now that I have little ones of my own it’s a little too tough to keep them up that late for a midnight service…I miss it though and can’t wait to take them when they are older!
Ashley
November 13, 2013 at 6:55 amFor the last 70 years (yep, 70) my family has done a Christmas play that is performed on Christmas Eve night. The new baby always plays Jesus, and usually newly married couples play Mary and Joseph (we have a big family, so there is often a new baby almost every year). We have pictures of my dad in the play when he was 5, and as well as a picture of me (in pink) playing Jesus on my first Christmas.

November 13, 2013 at 6:55 amOur family always goes out to a nice restaurant for Christmas Eve. I love it!
Aaryn @ Insert{Life}Here
November 13, 2013 at 6:56 amMy mother has been in a church bell choir since I can remember, and on Christmas eve, the church holds a midnight service (which is actually around 11). My two sisters and whoever else is in town always go watch and support my momma. Usually, we’ve just eaten ton of pie and are super giggly. Sometimes we go out to a late night diner after. I didn’t really realize until now how great of a tradition that is.
elizabeth @ chronic venture
November 13, 2013 at 6:57 amwe always get PJs on Christmas Eve!

November 13, 2013 at 6:57 amWe don’t have a ton of set traditions…but my mom does make her famous cranberry tart every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Katie
November 13, 2013 at 6:57 amMy husband and I write each other Christmas letters every year and put them in each other stockings to read on Christmas morning. It is the best gift that I receive every year.

November 13, 2013 at 7:00 amMy favorite traditions are the simple ones. Christmas Eve church. New Christmas jammies on December 1st, and lots of time in front of the fireplace reading bible stories.
SarahRS
November 13, 2013 at 7:01 amWe love putting up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect way to start the season.

November 13, 2013 at 7:01 amMy favorite tradition is staying up late with my hubby wrapping presents, writing a note to the kids from Santa, and sprinkling glitter footprints around the fireplace and kids bedrooms with a funny eggnog in hand and lights from the tree glistening in the background. Love to create a magical morning for my kiddos. Looking forward to it!
Lauren
November 13, 2013 at 7:01 amEvery year we make pizza and watch Love Actually!
Andi
November 13, 2013 at 7:01 amMy mom always makes pancakes for us after we open presents on Christmas morning and an egg for the dog as a special treat!
MaryK.
November 13, 2013 at 7:02 amUnfortunately my parents are both usually working the morning of Christmas (at a church and a hospital), so we always have to wait FOREVER for presents. This was absolute torture when we were little kids. Now it feels just kinda normal to make ourselves suffer all day and wait to open presents. 🙂 I dont know if it would feel right if we could open presents when we wake up.
Brianna
November 13, 2013 at 7:04 amFor the past almost twenty years, my uncle and cousins always drop by the house (used to be my parents house, now it’s my house). They are now in college, and now a tradition that started so many years ago with their search for Santa is a great chance to see each other on Christmas Eve (and they like getting out of clean up from dinner and doing the dishes)!
Jill
November 13, 2013 at 7:04 amWe always have Kugela which is a Lithuanian potato dish. It is a recipe that has been passed down from my grandma’s grandma and is part of every holiday.

November 13, 2013 at 7:06 amIt seems our family tradition always revolves around a delicious holiday breakfast/brunch complete with a few new recipes whipped up by my Mom and my Dad creating made-to-order omelets for each of us. This has always stuck, while all other ‘traditions’ seem to come and go. 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 7:08 amEvery Christmas after having our traditional breakfast of coconut orange rolls and unwrapping our stockings, my family and I always embark on a new mountain hiking adventure! Living in Colorado means there are lots of options to choose from. Nothing is better than enjoying some fresh air and family while marveling at Gods beautiful creation!

November 13, 2013 at 7:08 amWe have two quirky traditions in my family, 1. we leave beer and bologna (not that oscar mayer crap, the good homemade stuff) for santa, 2. all the siblings and SO’s have to write a personalized poem for another sibling/so-partners get picked out of a hat. I highly suggest the poems, I love it!

November 13, 2013 at 7:09 amGrowing up, every year we each bought one ornament that represented that year. So, each holiday season, as the tree gets decorated we reminisce and share our favorite memories from the past. Once I started a family of my own I had a stash of sentimental ornaments to start with.
Alex
November 13, 2013 at 7:09 amWe love going as a family to get our Christmas Tree from a special place we’ve gone to for years.
Marie
November 13, 2013 at 7:12 amHoliday traditions in my family begin at Thanksgiving and stretch through the Christmas season. Every year on Thanksgiving morning, my husband’s family and some members of my family run a 5 mile road race, followed by turkey dinner in front of the fire…then the Christmas festivities begin. My husband and I pick out our tree on Thanksgiving weekend, then decorate it while listening to Christmas music and drinking cocoa. The remaining weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are filled with the simplest traditions – baking cookies with mom, wrapping gifts while watching Christmas movies, etc.. Then it all culminates with midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and a big family dinner (and hopefully some snow) on Christmas Day. It’s my favorite time of year!
Liz
November 13, 2013 at 7:13 amWe always drive around the neighborhood to see christmas lights before going home and opening up presents. Also we have started a new tradition of going to the Denver Zoo zoolights. So much fun!

November 13, 2013 at 7:16 amOur tradition is ridiculously wacky, but I honestly love it! It involves my older sister and younger brother chasing me around our childhood home (we are all grown and living on our own – and yes this still happens), making every attempt to grab a certain Christmas ornament.
You see, I made said ornament when I was about 6 years old and OBSESSED with Aladdin (Disney). In art class I made a clay ornament in the shape of Jasmine and she turned out, by mistake, very…um…”blessed.” I was a kid, I didn’t know what I was doing. The ornament has since then changed hiding places approximately 147 times in our house – and has been hung on our tree only about 4 times during that period — only when my brother and sister can catch me or find the doll before Christmas Eve. Note that this has been going on for roughly 20 years.
Last year they won. It was NOT a proud moment for me. HAHA! See? Wacky. But I’m not ashamed.
Gail
November 13, 2013 at 7:18 amWe used to have many but not much family left – so my husband & I do the Feast of the 7 Fishes on Christmas Eve and anyone who wants to join can do so

November 13, 2013 at 7:19 amWe buy one present each to be put in a pile. Then we do a number drawing to see who gets to pick a present first on Christmas Day. Can’t remember what the game is called, but it’s pretty hilarious!

Laurel
November 13, 2013 at 7:21 amAs our little family just started a little less than 2 years ago, we’re just beginning to make traditions. We began one last year of new pjs for everyone and a Christmas movie to watch together on the weekend before Christmas. Looking forward to it again this year! 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 7:36 amMy grandma makes a loaf of fruitcake for each family group and gives them to us for Christmas. November 13, 2013 at 7:39 amOur family has a special holiday tradition of making tacos on Christmas eve. It’s low-key, fun and super delicious. The taco bar comes together even if we’re traveling for the holidays and is just a great way to ease into some relaxation time with the family 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 7:40 amMe and all of my siblings along with our significant others gather at my parent’s house on Christmas Eve. Everyone has a job…someone makes a cocktail of the day, someone brings red wine, someone tends to the Christmas music selection, I make a giant cheese tray and we sit around all day enjoying each other along with the tastes, sights, sounds and smells of the season. It’s my absolute favorite time of year!
Gina Marie
November 13, 2013 at 7:40 amMy husband and I just got married this year so I’m excited to start some traditions of our own! My family always enjoys Christmas morning looking at all the fun stuff Santa aka my amazing mother puts in our stockings and drink lots of coffee and baileys!

November 13, 2013 at 7:41 amMy husband and I got each of our kids their own Chanukah menorah when they got old enough to light candles. On Chanukah we each light our own menorah and our house truly looks like we’re celebrating the Festival of Lights. We also always enjoy several rousing games of dreidel.
Liz
November 13, 2013 at 7:42 amWe put the tree up the Friday after Thanksgiving. We eat clementines and make hot chocolate. We always play Feliz Navidad as the first Christmas Carol!

November 13, 2013 at 7:44 amNot sure if my first post went through…
We spend Christmas Eve with my side of the family…we go to church, enjoy Yellow Rice (an old family recipe from Italy), and open gifts from each other. The little ones love it! Christmas morning is quieter, with just my husband, myself and our kids (along with Santa’s goodies).

November 13, 2013 at 7:46 amGoing over to the in-laws in our pajamas on Christmas morning. Our daughter just turned 2 so we are working on creating new traditions at our house as she gets older.
Kate @ GreatestEscapist.com
November 13, 2013 at 7:46 amI’m Jewish & my boyfriend was raised Christian, so we have a lot of holiday traditions that involve combining elements of both of your backgrounds. We celebrate Christmas (with lots & lots of gifts, wrapped & left under the tree as soon as get them but not to be opened until the big day), & we also celebrate Hanukkah, namely with menorah-lighting & lots of food. I’ve even taught my boyfriend to make latkes, & now his are better than mine! We have a lot of friends of different religions, so we try to send holiday-nonspecific cards that just send winter wishes. I like that Minted offers a lot of non-Christmas, everyone-friendly options!

November 13, 2013 at 7:47 amLOVE giving and receiving Christmas cards, but HATE the price of them. This would help us a ton this year!

November 13, 2013 at 7:50 amWe don’t have any real holiday traditions… other than just the traditional holiday get togethers and devouring food. In terms of food… for Christmas we do yummy sandwiches and lots of finger food instead of the traditional Christmas ham. I love eating a plate full of finger food… fabulous dips and chips, spinach balls, sausage balls, smoked sausage… yummmm… now I’m hungry!!

November 13, 2013 at 7:54 amSort of a pre-Christmas tradition: every year, in the week leading up to Xmas, my hubby and I will put the kids to bed and then put on “The Princess Bride” and watch it together while wrapping our kids’ presents. It gives us together time watching one of our favorite movies, and it makes me look forward to wrapping gifts!

November 13, 2013 at 7:56 amMy family is Swiss, so our holiday tradition is a raclette dinner. This involves a special raclette grill that has an open grill on top for our wurst, and trays underneath to melt our raclette cheese and onions. And then we put the melted cheese over spaetzle or baby red potatoes. Yum.

November 13, 2013 at 8:05 amEvery Christmas Eve we go to the children’s mass at church then come home and watch The Night They Saved Christmas while enjoying appetizers (that we prepped before hand) in our pjs and decorate our tree with the ‘homemade’ ornaments. It is a great combo of spending time with God and each other, laughing, eating, and enjoying the moment.

November 13, 2013 at 8:40 amOur holiday tradition comes in the form of a Christmas tree ornament shaped like a hatbox. Each year, a note (usually a silly poem) is folded into the hatbox and reading the note is the last thing we do on Christmas morning after opening gifts. The note typically has clues leading the kids on a scavenger hunt to their last and final present. It’s a fun tradition that goes back to when when my sister and I were kiddos.
Rebecca
November 13, 2013 at 8:40 amIt’s harder now to get everyone together, but our usual tradition ir to have Christmas dinner before church on Christmas Eve, then we come home and eat pie! November 13, 2013 at 9:09 amOur traditions are changing. We’re not separated across North American and we don’t spend every Christmas together. I’m hoping to atleast see my sister this holiday. So our traditions now are still followed, but alone. We always open our presents after midnight on the 24th so we can all sleep in and have a late brunch on Christmas day.

Kim
November 13, 2013 at 9:29 am5 years ago we quit individual gifts for extended family and switched to a secret Santa gift exchange. We draw a name at Thanksgiving and give a $25 gift at Christmas to the person we drew. We go around the table and open the gifts individually. It’s always much more meaningful than our old way and often hilarious!
Chelsea

November 13, 2013 at 9:40 amOur tradition as kids was to take an evening and drive around looking at the Christmas lights in the neighborhood…always a fun time. Now that we kids are all grown, we don’t do it as a family, but my husband and I drive around together and check out decorations. Now that we have a son (7 months old) I’m looking forward to starting some traditions with him, including looking at lights. 🙂
Michelle Naomi
November 13, 2013 at 9:42 amI spent 15 years celebrating Christmas with my best friend and her family ( I am Jewish) From stockings to presents under the tree to a big family dinner. I miss it so much but I’ve since moved across the country. Now my husband and I stay in bed all day watching movies and enjoy some fresh baked goodies and a quiet day at home.

Tess
November 13, 2013 at 9:44 amFor me the traditions are all about the food! Everything from the cookies we bake all season to our super eclectic Christmas morning brunch. And drinks…champagne while decorating the tree, anyone?
Melissa
November 13, 2013 at 9:46 amNow that our kids are 2 and 4, we are working on creating holiday traditions for our family. We have started by opening new Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve and snuggling up with some hot cocoa to read the Night Before Christmas at bedtime.
Jacklyn
November 13, 2013 at 9:47 amAs far as traditions…our family is in the midst of creating new ones which is just as fun! My husband and I got married a little over a year ago so we are still trying to figure it out. But no matter where w are, the tradition we are trying to create is that everyone is together!
Stephanie
November 13, 2013 at 9:47 amWe always open a gift on Christmas Eve. I am the impatient one for gift opening so one year my Dad let me open new wiper blades as a joke. It still makes us laugh to remember that prank.
kate

November 13, 2013 at 9:48 amEvery Christmas eve all of my siblings, their spouses and children gather at my parent’s house. We all walk to early kiddie mass and then have dinner together back at my parent’s house. After dinner the kids write a letter to Santa about their year. Then “Santa” writes a letter back commenting on all of the wonderful accomplishments our kids had over the year. We keep the letters in our pretty Santa book, so we have years and years of letters to/from Santa.
Liz
November 13, 2013 at 9:51 amWe do the same routine every Christmas! Open presents under the tree, big breakfast, then to Grammie’s house for dinner with the family.
Kristen
November 13, 2013 at 9:52 amMy family has so many traditions…we really love Christmas in our house! We always go to Leavenworth, WA (a little Bavarian themed town that is covered in lights during the month of December) a couple of days before Christmas. And to this day (I’m 27 and my brother is 30) we sit on my parent’s bed and open stockings together on Christmas morning.
Alycia
November 13, 2013 at 9:53 amEvery year my sister and I get new pyjamas to sleep in on Christmas Eve….she is 29 and I am 32 and we are STILL doing it! Something so special about waking up on Christmas morning in cozy new pj’s 🙂

Maggie
November 13, 2013 at 9:56 amMy four siblings and I (and now, my husband) have to cram together at the top of the stairs until my Mom makes coffee. Once the coffee is brewed she takes the traditional picture and asks all of us questions about Jesus and the Christmas story. Once we’ve been properly quizzed we’re allowed to come down and open our stockings, then our presents one by one. Just thinking about it has me excited!
Sara @ Dear Skim
November 13, 2013 at 9:56 amMy family’s Christmas tradition has been opening gifts on Christmas Eve. We much as we’d like to wait until the morning (and we totally used to when I was younger!), we’ve taken to opening them up the night before and enjoying our gifts the day of.
Rachel
November 13, 2013 at 9:57 amEvery year on Christmas Eve my whole (extended) family goes to the candlelight service at church, and then meets at my Great-aunt’s afterward for dinner and drinks and celebrating. When we get back to my house at night, “Santa” has left one package (always new PJs!) on the kids beds. Great fun 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 9:59 amwould love cards for our first holiday in our new home!
Alissa
November 13, 2013 at 10:03 amMy grandparents have “12 days of Christmas” china, with each salad plate being a different day. Before dinner, we all sing the song, with each person singing the line on his/her plate. No one can sing very well, but that’s what makes it so fun!
Erin
November 13, 2013 at 10:03 amMy husband and I always go and pick out a tree together, then come home and decorate with Christmas music playing in the background. Pretty typical tradition – but I treasure it!
Shelly
November 13, 2013 at 10:04 amPajamas for Christmas for the whole family.
Jennie
November 13, 2013 at 10:06 amMy family usually has a tradition of always praying before the meal and sharing what we are thankful for the past year. Sounds generic, but this simple moment around the table spent interacting with my loved ones, including my parents, who I haven’t seen in awhile and live far away from me, brings us all closer together.
Hawley
November 13, 2013 at 10:07 amThis is so awesome, Jenna! I LOVE Minted and have used them before with great success. I love the choice you picked out, too – the gold foil. So pretty! My family of origin always used to have my mom go downstairs to check and see if Santa came before we (the kids) could come down. Even when we were grown adults. Now that I have kids, my brother and parents want to keep it up – but we’ll see 😉 Anyways, great give away indeed! Love you guys. xoxo

November 13, 2013 at 10:08 amMy family and I each open only 1 gift on Christmas Eve after dinner and save the rest for Christmas morning
Kristin
November 13, 2013 at 10:08 amAlthough my husband, kids, and I are surrounded by family, we make sure that Christmas morning is set aside for just the 4 (soon to be 5 next month) of us. It is a tradition that we all love.

Leah
November 13, 2013 at 10:17 amChristmas morning always means Dutch Babies for Christmas breakfast. Such a special, buttery treat, watching with excited and eager eyes as the oven pancakes puff like a souffle and then fall within moments of coming out of the oven. Top with maple syrup and sprinkle some powdered sugar….or maybe top with homemade applesauce. I can hardly wait!!
Gabby Bladdick
November 13, 2013 at 10:19 amOne of my favorite holiday traditions is spending Christmas Eve at my grandparent’s house. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in our family gets together. It’s truly special to see family we don’t get to see often on one of the best days of the year. Santa even comes!
Ali O
November 13, 2013 at 10:19 amMy hubby & I want to take pictures in ugly Christmas sweaters this year for our card. But we have yet to even buy the sweaters! haha Hopefully we won’t be rushing to get them done, I hate that. 🙂

November 13, 2013 at 10:23 amOne of my family’s traditions from when we were kids is that we always got to pick one gift to open before going to church on Christmas Eve. All of the other gifts waited until Christmas morning.
Stephanie
November 13, 2013 at 10:24 amMy favorite holiday tradition is Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. Since my older brother’s first Christmas, my parents have bought my brothers and I a Hallmark ornament each year. They started buying one for my husband when we got married, and now they buy one for our son. Their tree is completely covered in Hallmark ornaments, and they all mean so much to us. Whenever we visit my parents at Christmas, I love searching for all of my ornaments from the last 31 Christmases!

Michelle S.
November 13, 2013 at 10:27 amWe never put any presents out until Christmas morning. Seeing my sweet baby boy’s face (he’s 3) when he runs out Christmas morning at all the goodies Santa left is priceless. It brings them so much more joy to go to bed to an empty tree and then wake up to one filled with presents. 🙂
Miranda
November 13, 2013 at 10:27 amWe always had a holiday piano recital on Christmas Eve and while we were gone “santa” would show up at our house with our presents so that when we got back from the recital our presents would be there! My parents would ask the neighbors to come over while we were gone to make us believe even more that it couldn’t be them!
CaitlinT

Jen Pedersen
November 13, 2013 at 10:29 amWe get all gussed up and go to a swanky dinner on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day we snack all day long.
Kristen
November 13, 2013 at 10:32 amFor as long as I can remember, my father has put a mystery kitchen item in my mother’s Christmas stocking. He would keep his eyes open all year long, stopping into kitchen and cooking stores, challenging the employees to help him find the most difficult and discreet thing in their store. This item had to be unmarked and the goal was to guess its purpose. This is something that eventually got the attention of the entire family and it would have to come along with us to Christmas dinner so everyone could have a guess. Now that we are grown up, my brother and I reciprocate!
Joey
November 13, 2013 at 10:37 amOur holiday traditions are changing this year as it will be the first year we spend Christmas away from our families. We moved 3 years ago to the West Coast & our families are back in the Midwest. I am kind of sad but I’m trying to see the positive side and that is creating new traditions!
Shelly

November 13, 2013 at 10:39 amMy family tradition was to open one present on Christmas Eve after church. I now have a 2 yr old and I’d like to have my son open 1 Christmas book for each day of December along with decorating and baking cookies.

November 13, 2013 at 10:51 amAfter attending the candlelight service at our church, my sisters and I would always open a package on Christmas Eve that contained matching pajamas, which we would wear that night and as we opened presents on Christmas morning. November 13, 2013 at 10:58 amI LOVE Christmas Eve. We go to church with my grandpa and grandma, then out to eat. When we get back to their house, my sister and I set out all the presents left by “Santa” for my cousins and we each get a special present to open that night. I am thirty years old and I STILL love this!
Meghan
November 13, 2013 at 10:59 amEvery year, we open presents from family on Christmas Eve followed by watching Bing Crosby’s White Christmas, then we all snuggle in for hot buttered rums (virgin for the kiddos) and wait for Santa to arrive on Christmas morning! What a great giveaway!

November 13, 2013 at 11:04 amWe always throw a birthday party for Jesus the evening on Christmas Eve after our church service. It is such a fun time and helps us make sure we are focusing on the real reason of all the Christmas celebrations.

November 13, 2013 at 11:10 amWe always bundle up in the car with blankets and a thermos full of hot cocoa then slowly drive around looking at Christmas lights. It was always so fun as a kid because it was usually on a random Wednesday night and it felt like such a luxury!
Tiffany
November 13, 2013 at 11:11 amUnfortunately no traditions to speak of with my family, but I do hope to change that in the future with my (future) husband and children. Coming from a dysfunctional family makes me crave little things such as this like you wouldn’t believe!

November 13, 2013 at 11:17 amWe have a lot of traditions. We always bake the same cookies-sugar, oatmeal chocolate chip, biscotti, mexican wedding cookies, oatmeal raisin, and gingerbread. We also have the same special Polish Christmas Eve dinner and attend mid-night mass. Since my fiance and I have started splitting up the holiday, we are creating new traditions with our families though they aren’t quite formed into traditions. I’m looking forward to seeing what they become.

Usually my sister and I outlast everyone else and we indulge in sappy Christmas episodes of old favorite shows like FRIENDS

November 13, 2013 at 12:19 pmThis will be our first Christmas with our baby boy so I’d like to start a new tradition for our little family of three. I am thinking of watching Christmas movies in our pajamas on the 23rd with popcorn and hot chocolate, and making cookies to leave out for Santa. As much as I love being with our families, I think it is important to start special memories of our own.

November 13, 2013 at 12:28 pmThese are beautiful! Every year, my Dad makes “galettes” around Christmastime- soft cookies that he ate while growing up in Belgium. They resemble small waffles, and are so good with coffee!
Meghan
November 13, 2013 at 12:29 pmI love a Christmas tradition I inherited from my husband’s family – everyone gets together at my in-laws’ house and does a Yankee swap, but every year it’s completely hilarious. It’s like herding cats, and it always gets more complicated than it needs to be, but every year I’m reminded of love and family and fun as we do it. I don’t think I’d ever give the tradition up. I already can’t wait for the husband’s aunt to have to count up how many people are in the swap 4 times because she gets different numbers each time.
Sara
November 13, 2013 at 12:31 pmI haven’t sent cards out in a couple of years. Between having kids, moving to a new state and just being all around busy, I haven’t made time for it. This might be the year to get back in touch via holiday cards!

November 13, 2013 at 12:32 pmMy family consists of tradition junkies!! We love traditions! But my favorite Christmas one is always getting up super early to see what “Santa” brought. Nothing like waking up early in the morning while it’s still dark out to see the lit up Christmas tree with piles of presents below!!
jenb
November 13, 2013 at 12:34 pmGrowing up, the tradition was setting up the artificial Christmas tree and decorating it while listening to Christmas music. Now with my kids it’s buying a real tree and setting it with their help (and while trying to keep them from breaking all my old ornaments).

November 13, 2013 at 12:43 pmMy mum always makes a big dinner for family, friends and really anyone who wants to show up on Christmas Eve, it just seems to grow every year. She’s Irish, but she makes these amazing green chile enchiladas, it’s a recipe she got from a neighbor about twenty years ago. We wait all year for those, and she always makes an entire extra pan to freeze and send me home with. She had a few health scares last year, but has come through and healed beautifully. However she’s been talking about wanting to make sure that I know how to make the enchiladas and carry on the tradition properly. 🙂 My husband and I have moved backed to my hometown, and I’ve since been told that it’s my year to takeover dinner! I love Christmas Eve with my family! Christmas day, we go over in wee hours of the morning, to open gifts with my in-laws. My husband and I are in our twenties and he’s the third eldest of thirteen, so it’s such a joy to watch all of his little brothers and sisters reactions to their presents. Just thinking about the holidays is so exciting! I am going to stop rambling now! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Angela

November 13, 2013 at 4:46 pmEvery Christmas is a little different, but I remember making gingerbread houses from scratch with my mom one year. It was just one year because the project was so huge. We had the enitre kitchen covered with candy and gingerbread castle walls and powdered sugar and icing. The resulting gingerbread buildings were about two feet tall and gorgeous and I remember the event fondly, but I don’t think I ever want to tackle such a feat again!

November 13, 2013 at 7:46 pmOopsie…didn’t tell about my tradition. We love to give gifts to each other that are from someone else. (But really us). The recipient has to figure out what might be in the package based on who it is “from.”

November 13, 2013 at 8:40 pmWhen our kids were little, we traveled everywhere over Christmas so that all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. could see the kids. Several Christmases ago, we were struck with the flu all during the holidays, and the youngest even still had the flu on Christmas Day. As stressful as it was, it was still a very peaceful holiday. We were not all running around like crazy people! After everybody got well, we decided from then on that we would stay home for Christmas; any traveling would be kept to a minimum and only AFTER Christmas 🙂 I’m a traditional person, but new traditions are great as well…and sometimes just what you need!
Miranda
November 13, 2013 at 8:40 pmI’ve always wanted to get something from Minted!

November 13, 2013 at 8:43 pmMy favorite holiday tradition were our presents from Rudolph! November 13, 2013 at 9:26 pmWe have quite a few traditions because I am so obsessed with this time of year! One of my favorites though is visiting a local place called Peacock Lane. November 14, 2013 at 5:40 amMy family had more tradition for Christmas Eve than Christmas day itself. We always attended a Christmas Eve service and then came home to eat a traditional Swiss dinner of breads, cheeses, and side dishes. We then sit around the tree opening one present at a time- from youngest to oldest. This is my first Christmas married and away from home– we’ll see what traditions are started for our new family of two! 🙂

November 14, 2013 at 5:56 amWe’ve been married for 13 years (4 kiddos Ages 11-2 this year) and some traditions have remained tried and true. Advent Jesse tree is my favorite! I did a swap with girlfriends to have a beautiful collection of the ornaments for this. Crafty friends help! We get our tree on Dec 6 in memory of our 2nd son, I decorate everything -currently 5 fake trees and 1 live one every year…themed (Memory tree in red, kitchen tree is white, front room is my fancy “magazine” tree in silver and gold, etc., the live one gets put in the family room with all our annual ornaments added each year, these trees have accumulated over the years) , we wear last year’s Christmas jammies all month, watch the list of Christmas movies, bake and decorate cookies, make goody bags for friends/neighbors and people we care about but don’t exchange gifts with, big dinner at my parent’s Christmas Eve and so on.
Santa brings each child 3 gifts, helping us remember Jesus’ birth, cutting down the “junk” gifts to stuff they treasure. They receive so much from family and also exchange with each other that the piles are still ridiculous!!! So glad we started this when we only had 2! Their stockings get filled with underwear, socks, and stuff they might actually like, too. Oh and we take turns and watch each other open each gift. Presents take all day to open sometimes…good thing I always make tons of easy-heat, yummy dishes to set out! We graze all day! (I am thankful for food blogs and allrecipes.com!)

November 14, 2013 at 6:37 amMy traditions have changed over the years as I have grown up; however, a staple in my holiday is The Muppet Christmas Carol! I’ll never outgrow it and hope to share its whimsical characters, memorable songs, and embodiment of the Christmas Spirit with my nieces and nephew! That is, when they’re old enough not to be scared by Marley and Marley!!!

November 14, 2013 at 6:48 amWe always used to open our stocking stuffer gifts and then go to sleep early (or at least pretend to sleep!) so Santa would hurry up and get to our place!
Brianna T.
November 14, 2013 at 6:57 amMy husband and I started our little Christmas tradition when we were newlyweds. We go to the 4pm service at our church, come home and make “Christmas Fettuccine” and watch Christmas movies. Now that we have a son (and another due in February) we read The Polar Express instead of watching movies and I wouldn’t trade our Christmas Eve tradition for anything. Christmas Day is spent at our house with grandparents.
Brandie
November 14, 2013 at 6:59 amDoes new underwear and an orange in the stocking count as a tradition? It’s been around for as long as I can remember. No idea where it started, but I continue it with my little ones today:)

November 14, 2013 at 7:35 amWhen I was a kid we always made the 4 hour drive down to Chicago for Christmas with my dad’s family. Though I loved spending it with my grandma, there was always a question as to whether or not Santa would find us. Sometimes he did, sometimes he got his deliveries over with before Christmas to save reindeer mileage.
Now that I’ve got a family of my own, we’re inviting the grandmas and the grandpas to our house for Christmas so there’s never a question and lots of room for new traditions to begin. This will be our little guy’s second Christmas and we cannot WAIT to start the tradition of reading a Christmas book with our advent calendar opening in the evening.

November 14, 2013 at 8:19 amWe’re Polish and it’s traditional to have a big Christmas Eve party complete with pierogies and fish, among other delicious dishes, so each year we go to my Aunt’s or my parent’s house to celebrate with everyone on my Dad’s side of the family. I look forward to the food and company every year!!
Katie
November 14, 2013 at 8:20 amEvery Christmas eve, my family attends the candle light church service at 11 p.m. The service is one of my favorite experiences of the whole year; it’s intimate and quietly joyful. The old wooden church is warmly light by the advent wreath and we end the service holding candles in the darkness, singing Silent Night a cappella and welcoming the Christ Child into the light.
It’s after midnight when the church doors open and the parishioners head out into the silent Christmas morning. This is the moment I look forward to all year: when the rush of the holidays dies away and the true spirit of Christmas is realized.

November 14, 2013 at 8:32 amMinted is so drool-worthy, but I’ve never pulled the trigger because it’s so pricey. What a dream to win this giveaway!! Our tradition is to watch “The Grinch” in our new pjs!

November 14, 2013 at 9:04 amI’m obsessed with Minted! I used them for our wedding thank you notes and the past two years of Christmas cards. I was actually on there over the weekend looking for this year’s design. For Christmas traditions we actually really celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. It’s when we have the big dinner and open up all the presents. Christmas morning we do stockings and then a small dinner that night.

November 14, 2013 at 11:46 amI love Christmas Traditions with my family! My favorite is how we do Christmas morning, everyone wakes up at the same time and we all get our cup of coffee and open stockings together then we spend the whole morning opening presents and spending good intentional time with each other excited to give each other gifts, then have my mom’s DELICIOUS breakfast casserole. It’s the best!
