Hello friends!
Gahhh I’m absolutely GUSHING about yoga this morning!
My “Yoga Grooves” class was fantastic. Exactly what I’ve been searching for in a practice since I left my beloved studio in Charleston. Jen, the instructor, just moved here from California where she practiced with some of the best yoga people (including Kishan who is the guest instructor of next weekend’s detox workshop event), many of whom have been featured in Yoga Journal. The class was definitely a powerful flow……we were moving the entire time and did tons of sun salutations and chatarungas. Just when I felt like I was at my breaking point and wanting to go down in child’s pose, she called out “and now we will begin the chatarunga sequence!” Haha! We did slowwww 10 second transitions from plank down to chatarunga then back up in another 10 seconds. Talk about working your triceps….and shoulders…and biceps….haha. It was challenging for sure but great to sweat and I felt very strong. And, of course, the music was blasting the whole time.
The only bad thing though that is right now this class is only offered Friday mornings at 9:00, which I won’t be able to do anymore once I start my job. I asked her if they ever planned on making this a noon class (which will be the only time I will be able to make!) and she said she could definitely teach at noon and she would make the request to Annie, the owner. So we will see what happens!
When I got home I grated some fresh and spicy monterey jack cheese, sprinkled it on my leftover pizza slices and did a quick reheat in the micro:
And I had a small cup of blueberries for dessert—
On my way home from yoga I also clocked the distance from the library to my house—-only 2 1/2 miles! So, this afternoon I am planning on a little bike ride there to get a library card so I can work on one of my new year’s resolutions, which is to check out more books than I buy. I already have a library in my bedroom!
There’s talk with Ryan about going out for cuban food tonight and then finally seeing a movie.
See you tonight!

January 2, 2009 at 11:01 amYumm, those blueberries look delicious.
Anyway, I’m here because I saw this tweet from foodimentary, and totally thought of you:
Today is Feast Day of St. Marcarius, patron saint of confectioners, cooks, pastry chefs. Marcarius was once a sugarplum merchant.

January 2, 2009 at 11:32 amWay to ask for what you want with the yoga class…what’s the worst that could happen?: they say ‘no.’ Yay for asserting yourself! And for cheezing up the pizza.

January 2, 2009 at 11:53 amI have a couple of Yoga Journal DVDβs that I love, and they kick my but. I still burn out half way thru and modify it so I can finish. I would love taking a class. I love the way I feel at the end. Refreshed, energized, and my favorite partβ¦a peaceful clear mind =)

January 2, 2009 at 12:11 pmI’m so jealous you have such a great yoga studio where you live! I live in such a small town we don’t have a lot of options! π Do you have any suggestions for at home videos, ect? I’ve been doing yoga off and on for the past 2-3 years and I feel like I’m not advancing and I don’t know the language as well as a should which makes doing online classes a bit more challenging. I’m also concerned that even while doing yoga with a video that my technique is not correct. Any suggests would be great:) thanks!

January 2, 2009 at 12:33 pmJenna, have you ever considered donating some of your books? I’m not sure if libraries take used donations, but I’m pretty sure some school libraries do.
That pizza looks fab!

January 2, 2009 at 1:04 pmThat yoga class sounds amazing!!
Question: do you eat the blueberries straight out of the freezer or actually let them defrost first? Am I missing out on an awesome snack? π

January 2, 2009 at 1:13 pmGlad you enjoyed yoga this morning. Sounds like a challenging class. Love all the Chaturanga action! Pizza looks better with the added cheese. π
I save so much money by using the library. I didn’t realize how much I was spending on books, and after moving, I swore I would stop buying them. All those boxes full of novels were so heavy!
Happy Friday Jenna. Enjoy your Cuban food + movie.

January 2, 2009 at 2:39 pmThat yoga class does sound like fun!! Good for you for making the request – I bet you aren’t the only one who would like to go at a different time! The library is such a good deal – even if you are a couple days overdue, it’s cheaper than buying the book, and the library needs the money! I bet you could find a used bookstore that buys books back – there are quite a few here in WI where I am…you could make some money back on the books you won’t read again. Just a thought…

Actually I was an Alpha Chi Omega at the university of alabama before I transferred to cofc. They didn’t have achios at cofc and I was transferring in as a junior anyways. So fun your friend went there–its a special place!
