Breakfast

No Such Luck

You know when you are SO tired that you just cannot sleep? Well, that was me last night. I settled in bed around 9:30 (I know, I’m 80) and I swear I didn’t fall asleep until Ryan came home at 3:00 in the morning!!!!!!!! I was just tossing and turning and checking on Dexter (who was sleeping peacefully under the bed) for hours on end. When Ryan did come home (he went to the boxing match, the press conference and the after-party. I am way not cool enough to do that kind of thing), I fell asleep and slept until 9:00. I’m still feeling sort of drained but I’m attributing that partly to the nasty weather we are having outside. It’s windy and cooler and looks like its about to storm.

When I woke up I made steel cut oats (the instant kind) with almond butter and banana. I didn’t want to have too big of a breakfast, seeing that it is already 9:30! Maybe I can make Ryan take me to Pita Pit again for lunch…..

I hate it when that happens! It’s like your body says “no! I fight your desperate need for sleep.” I hope you manage to catch up on sleep tonight at least! Your breakfast looks delicious. =)

Haha, well I didn’t end up getting IN bed until 12:15am, so I definitely was out like a light once my head hit the pillow :0D I do hope that you can get some proper sleep tonight!!

Your breakfast is similar to mine this morning – just substitute hazelnut-butter :0)

Not being able to fall asleep despite being exhausted is the absolute worst. But your breakfast looks wonderful!

Hopefully you can convince your bf to take you out for lunch 😉

Do you usually have problems sleeping?

You were probably up all night because you are a new “mom” 🙂 Your cat is adorable!

How do instant steel cut oat compare to instant rolled or real steel cuts.

Also, what made you decide to switch to pastry versus cooking as you seem to be quite the chef as well and never really eat the pastries.

Relax! Often I am in bed way earlier than that (I wake up early) and I don’t consider myself “80” or a fuddy-duddy. You don’t have anyone to impress with a high-flying social lifestyle, right? Besides, Dexter needed the company.

I really wish I could make myself like bananas, but I just gag.

    Susan,

I like both….there is a slight texture difference between instant steel cut and slow cooked steel cut…instant still takes 6 minutes to cook in the microwave but i guess that’s better than 40 minutes on the stove!

I love cooking but culinary was just a little too intense for me. A lot of yelling, pressure, time crunches….. I like to take things slow and do it on my own time. Plus, baking has always been my number one passion and its what I wanted to do from the beginning…I just sort of convinced myself that if I was spending all the $$ I should do the whole program (culinary). That was going fine until I got into my first baking class!!!

Poor you! I had a late night too, but that was my own fault (studying because I procrastinated too much all day) Enjoy your Sunday!

    Hi Jenna,

I don’t know if this will help you, but when ever I can’t sleep I take Gaba Relaxer by Country Life. It usually works very quickly, and I never have any hang over or fogginess in the morning, even if I don’t get 8 hours. It is an all natural free form amino acid supplement with vitamin b-6 and niacin. In the past I have used tylenol simply sleep and tylenol pm (least fav) but they take forever to work and give me significant hangovers.

    Hope this helps.

aww Jenna you just can’t seem to win with the sleep lately! I definitely hear you on feeling drained these days. I never seem to get enough shut eye…all part of the life of a grad student I guess! This dreary weather definitely doesn’t help with the energy either. At least summer is right around the corner!

Hope you and dexter (and Ryan) are enjoying a relaxing Sunday afternoon 🙂

But now you’ll have a wonderful day and forget everything about it 🙂

I don’t know if you’re into sleep remedies but I recommend “Deep Sleep”. It’s all natural and you can get it at Whole Foods!
