Not My Day

Oh man….today has totally not been my day at all. I worked out and steamed (which made my headache go away actually!) but then when I got back home, it came back hardcore. I ended up having to take 2 excedrin migraine tablets, which I HATE doing because they make me feel so loopy and out of it…and I’m on my way to work! And then (sorry this is rather gross), my toilet has some sort of massive malfunction and overflowed everywhere. I mean, my whole bathroom and hallway were under at least four (yes, four!!!!!) inches of water. It was horrible. Really really REALLY horrible! Well, that took me about an hour to clean, mop, sanitize…I’m screaming and crying the whole time of course because I’m such a girl. And now, I’m not even hungry anymore for the dinner I made…and its actually really really good! WOW! You guys probably really didn’t want to hear any of that but sometimes it helps just to vent.

Okay…on to dinner:

Its too bad I’ve lost my appetite because my “chicken salad” sandwich truly was absolutely amazing. You could never ever tell it wasn’t actually chicken. I would make this again in a heartbeat! It had creamy dressing, crisp juicy grapes and hunks of curry scented “chicken”. SO good~ find the recipe in my recipe section and make it soon. Vegetarian or not!

After I worked out I nibbled on some grapes and half a chocolate chip cookie (from the other night). Now I’m off to work and bringing with me a Chocolate-Coconut Think Organic bar in my purse. Wish me luck! πŸ™cimg1272.JPG

Oh, Jenna, I wish there was something I could do to make your day better!! Yikes!! Between the toilet overflowing, your headache, and having to go to work, just hope for the best and remember that (as clichΓ¨ as this sounds) tomorrow is another day – hang in there, girl!!

On a much brighter note, that veg-version of the “chicken” salad looks sensational!! bravo!! glad to see you’re still nourishing yourself during these tough instances – keep at it! :0)

Oh my gosh – I use just about the same ingredients when I make my chicken salad! The only thing I do differently is use mustard or vinegar (depending on my mood) instead of the mayo. Such a small world with such similar thoughts! I like putting my chicken salad over a bed of lettuce with veggies. So tasty!

    Jenna,

Sometimes you just need to cry and scream! At least the day is almost over! I had a day like that last week, and then it passed by and the days after were much better. I think I enjoyed them even more than if I hadn’t had the bad day!

Oh, I got some hemp milk today. Yum! Thanks for the suggestion.

Sam- I buy puffed Kamut from Whole Foods but I have also found it at Randalls in Texas. Whole Foods has their own brand but the other brand is Arrowhead Mills. I also like the puffed corn. It has no sugar and I like that. It is filling if you pair it with fruit and some healthy fat. I don’t drink milk so I use yogurt in my cereal instead so that might contribute to it being more filling as well. It’s my go to breakfast for days that I’m not starving but still want something big.

Sam-I don’t think Kamut or puffed grains in general are too filling…just air (to me). But they do add a nice crunch factor to yogurt. I usually just use a sprinkle here and there for crunch.

Thanks Kelly, if you don’t mind me asking a follow up question, why don’t you drink milk and why do you eat puffed kamut versus cereal or oatmeal? I’m trying to learn about all these food products- there are so many πŸ™‚

awww thanks guys for all your kind words!! I got off work early (around 9:15) and I’m running a really hot, really bubbly bath right now then getting into bed…..tomorrow is a new day!!!!!

    Re skinny bitch:

Its cliche to say that a book can change a life…but this book seriously rocks and these women are amazing because they stand up for what they believe in and NO ONE can tell them otherwise. They aren’t scared to reveal the truth about so many things Americans just don’t even think about every day….Parts of the book really made me cry and then made me get really really MAD (at the USDA and the FDA mainly—its quite well researched and quite startling). You will have to read it to understand. You don’t have to agree with their complete lifestyle, as it is very radical, but its very interesting to hear what they have to say……….

Another great read is “fast food nation” if anyone is interested….

    Jenna,
    1. _Skinny Bitch_ is (despite its title) a good book, right? Funny and convincing. My partner and I tried to be vegan after reading it (we were eating “cruelty free” dairy and eggs before that). We sorta failed — but we cut way back on eggs and dairy to the bare minimum we need for energy.

    2. I KNOW about floods. For a year and half I lived in an apartment that flooded every time it rained, and once it even backed up the sewage into our patio. The landlord refused to fix the problem, and all legal avenues were futile. We moved. Before we moved, we too screamed and cried, and sometimes, somehow, laughed.

    Jenna,

I am glad that you got off work early today! At least you will have a little more time to relax after all that you went through … I am sorry about your headache and toilet situation; at least it is over.

“Fast Food Nation” is truly disturbing! Is “Skinny Bitch” more like a health book or a diet book?? Since you love reading so much, a page where we discuss some books would be kind of interesting, I think.

Jenna (or anyone else), this is a really random question, but I have irritable bowel syndrome (some of my family has such problems, grandpa has mild Crohn’s) and I was wondering if you knew of any foods that make IBS worse/better, or if it depends. Sorry for the random/icky question!

Hi. Had to respond. Sorry about the bathroom. That EXACT thing happened to me two weeks ago. I was completely traumatized. I ended up going to the doctor’s to get gloves and masks before I went down stairs to clean. Then I wanted to bleach my body. So gross! Anyhoo, good luck.

Sam- I do love oatmeal and oatbran but for some strange reason I never crave it in the morning. My “go to” dinner when my husband works late is oatmeal and that happens once or twice a week. I started eating the puffed kamut because it is all natural and no sugar. It’s just plain ol’ puffed kamut. The fiber content isn’t stellar so I add fruit to it most of the time, it also helps to add some healthy fat like nuts or low fat yogurt. When you mix it all together it gets nice and mushy and I just love it!

I don’t drink milk because I don’t like it. I grew up eating it in my cereal but would literally take my teeth and scrape the cereal off the spoon so I didn’t get a spoonful of milk. I can eat cereal with milk if I had to, it won’t make be gag or anything, I just don’t particularly care for it. After becoming more health concious I decided to try yogurt so that I could still get the protein and calcium in. I eat the whole bowl this way. I usually used vanilla yogurt with cereals like puffed corn and Barbara’s Puffins but I used other flavors with cereals I mix fruit in (All Bran, Kamut, Wheatabix) HOpe that helps!
