Good evening!
It was a rainy, cold day in Healdsburg so Anne and I decided to head to the big cityyyy for a day of food and awesomeness.
I was having a MAJOR pho craving so that was first up on the list. We found this place just by driving by called Pot de Pho. I ordered a medium sized bowl of chicken pho and made it extra spicy with the addition of lots of spicy peppers and sriracha sauce!
This was so spicy it made my nose run…..but that’s a good thing seeing as I’m pretty congested right now (tmi?). Anyways, it was amazing and I drank all the broth and left a lot of the noodles. I’m pretty much convinced pho cures anything.
We then went to The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (first time!) to get these amazing winter tea lattes that Beth has been telling me about now for weeks. She claimed it beats the Flying Goat bittersweet mocha as best coffee shop drink ever so I knew I had to give it a try.
Um yeah. Beth, you are a smart girl indeed. This was, hands down, one of the BEST drinks I’ve ever had. I’m not even sure what it was exactly but it just was sooo tasty.
A huge highlight of the day was the fact that I parallel parked perfectly on the steepest hill in San Francisco. Anne and I were both sort of scared for our lives (and my vehicle) but it worked. Dad, aren’t you proud??! 😉
Seriously, the hill was so steep that we basically rolled down it. Whewwwwwwww
However, the prize at the BOTTOM of the hill was very much worth it!
My very first visit to a Lululemon store!!!!!!! So, not going to lie, sort of wanted to buy the whole store but then almost choked when I saw the prices. I know the yoga pants fit really well……but DANG!!!
Exhaustion hit like a ton of bricks and we made it home around dinner time. I had a pancake made with Kodiak mix topped with Chobani, almond butter and Kodiak berry syrup with a kiwi on the side.
Nothing like pancakes and tea to ring in the first dinner of 2010. Whew! Anne was jealous, but she was too busy making out with Dexter to care. I told them to get a room or something.
***
Just got back from going to see Brothers. Can you say i-n-t-e-n-s-e?! Really, really good though. I highly recommend it.
It’s 9:30 and we are about to hit the sack. Gooooodnight!

January 1, 2010 at 10:38 pmThat all looks SO good, spicy soup sounds delish right now.
BTW, when lived in SF got 2-tickets for not ‘curbing’ tires properly–$271-fine each. Notice other cars in pix how much their tires are turned–probably by people who rec’d previous tickets that make you paranoid. Front tires must be sharply turned out if you are parked facing uphill on slope, sharply toward the curb if facing downhill…wish someone had told me when first moved to SF! The SF parking police are ruthless, esp re all the posted non-parking zones during rush hr for high traffic cross-town bus line streets. Like Sacramento St through the Financial District/Chinatown/Nob Hill/Polk Gultch/Pac Heights etc. Police in those little white motorized carts show up with a battery of tow trucks just as the no parking time begins-and yank tourist cars to somewhere remote in the Mission expensive to get back. They go at it with such zeal think there must be some a bonus in it somewhere for them. 😉

My mom is from vietnam and makes an amazinggg pot of pho (which i miss out on, ya know, with the whole vegetarian thing.) what a fun day in the city! looks like that might be the lulu in cow hollow? i know their stuff is RIDICULOUSLY priced, but their pants are my splurge. guilty!

January 1, 2010 at 10:48 pmPS, forgot to look at the Dexter pix. ROTFLMAO….the little paw on the laptop, so cute. I’ve played my cat this talking cat video viewed by nearly 25M otherwise educated/intelligent cat nuts. Cats love watching it.

January 1, 2010 at 11:05 pmAwww, you were back in my neighborhood today (Lululemon is in the Marina)! Sounds like it was a fun trip to the city. Your post as me craving Asian noodle soup at 11:04 pm. Sign….
I’m visiting Healdsburg for the first time ever tomorrow! Excited! Any recommendations?

January 1, 2010 at 11:56 pmI’m so jealous that you got to go to Lululemon!! They sell nice running clothes too. I’ve been searching for a discount retailer online with no luck. They are so expensive, but I guess they are supposed to last a really long time?
Feel better! 😉
Karmen @ Fit Twentysix
January 2, 2010 at 12:57 amI really wish I knew of a good Vietnamese restaurant in Michigan..besides Pho looking pretty tasty, I’m sure it would clear my congestion up too! Now you’ve got me thinking I should find a recipe for some kind of spicy soup to help.
Love Lululemon, even if I can only afford one clothing item a year..and a half haha 🙂
Karla
January 2, 2010 at 1:40 amI’ve always wanted to buy clothes in Lululemon too but sooooooo expensive!! Someday…
Angi
January 2, 2010 at 2:45 amI’d kill for some Pho right now! It isn’t something I enjoy any other time, but when I am sick, it is magic.
Lulu is pricey however, the quality is excellent. My Remix hoodie looks like the day I bought it – four years ago. My pants would too, but my sweetheart washed them with towels (a no no apparently) and so they do pill now. But the bottoms are not frayed at all and I wear those suckers everywhere!
Anais
January 2, 2010 at 2:59 amSo glad you finally checked out Lululemon! Beware, once you buy something there, you’ll be hooked 😉 (check out their hoodies too, they’re the best!)

January 2, 2010 at 3:49 amI love Luluemon too…
but they are so expensive:) I guess you get what you pay for!!!
The San Fran photos looks awesome!

January 2, 2010 at 4:59 amI have never had pho, my friend maddy eats it all the time. I need to look into how to make it, it sounds fab!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
January 2, 2010 at 5:39 amI’ve gone to a LuLu once so I know exactly what you mean about the prices. Can we say…*insane*?? I loved their stuff, but even the water bottles were out of my price range! haha…;)
Good job for parking on that hill! I’m notorious for parking a mile away just to avoid parallel parking—never mind if it’s on a steep hill. Eeks! 😀
Katherine
January 2, 2010 at 5:50 amThat was the first Lululemon store I ever visited too! I went when I was in SF for the 2007 Nike Marathon and bought myself a pair of Groove pants as my reward for completing the race. They’re still the only piece of Lulu apparel I own, but they’ve lasted and I wear them at least once a week!

January 2, 2010 at 5:51 amLooks like a great day. Hey, what brand is your purse? I admire it every time it is shown!!

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg
January 2, 2010 at 6:27 amLove pho!!!
GAH! The prices at lululemon are so depressing 🙁 Oh well…self-control is a good thing!
Sarah
January 2, 2010 at 6:41 amLooks like a cool day in San Fran.
I bought my first pair of Lululemon yoga pants in 2004 and they are still in great shape and I wear them all the time. I have since bought a few tops, shorts and the running tights. They are expensive but gym clothes are worm a lot (and washed a lot) so they really are great quality and last for years. And no, I don’t work for Lulu, that is just my opinion. 🙂
Cate
January 2, 2010 at 6:44 amI agree on the Lulu being SO worth it! I still wear my boogie crops from 2002 🙂
Kate
January 2, 2010 at 6:44 amLulu is a Canadian store (originally) so I have been addicted for some time now….the clothes are really pricey but so worth it. Love being able to go out in comfy clothes and not look like I am running around in my sweats (which really, I am!) Did you get anything??? I heart the capris and groove pants..and my fav sweater is the remix hoodie…so comfy!
Julie
January 2, 2010 at 6:48 amNext time you go to the city, check out http://www.burmasuperstar.com which is kind of like thai/viet/indian food and can be pretty spicy. My sister in law used to live around the corner and it is seriously amazing. People actually line up in front of the place before it opens!
Jenna
January 2, 2010 at 6:55 amWhat a great day to the new year!!
Liz
January 2, 2010 at 7:05 amMmmmm, pho is delicious! There’s a place by me called Le Colonial that has the BEST pho. Seriously, it is beyond words. You should check it out if you’re ever in Chicago 🙂
Dione
January 2, 2010 at 7:17 amYou need to get some lululemon. It’s the best. I have a ton of it. It’s great for running, working out, and looks good just to wear out shopping or something. it must be a Canadian thing (I am from Edmonton Alberta), but pretty much everyone has lulu here:) Once you get a couple pieces, you’ll become an addict.
Brynne
January 2, 2010 at 7:22 amI’ve always wanted to try Pho since I love Asian, but I somehow think that my on-campus cafe doesn’t do it justice. Looks so good though!
Jessie (Vegan-minded)
January 2, 2010 at 7:39 amI love a good bowl of Pho, especially when I am sick. So good! I have never been to a Lululemon store, but I saw the prices online and was a bit shocked myself. I am sure everything is good quality and comfortable, but I just can’t afford spending that much on yoga pants! I guess you get what you pay for. 😉
skinnyrunner
January 2, 2010 at 7:47 ami love coffee bean! they make really good flavored coffees. and of course love lulemon. i want everything they sell!
Rachel
January 2, 2010 at 7:54 amLove your rainboots.. I need to get some. Yeah, I just can’t see spending that much money on Lululemon even if it’s amazingly great. Maybe you can find an outlet store and get it on sale? Even then it’s semi-expensive. There’s always EBAY!
nikki
January 2, 2010 at 7:56 amYou need to go back and get some Lulu! There is an outlet store in Washington….worth the trip.
BethT
January 2, 2010 at 7:57 amHaha, the latte is just tea, milk and vanilla flavoring. And love.
I’ll echo the person above who advises you to curb your wheels – that will not only prevent tickets, but also make your car feel a lil bit safer on those hills 🙂
Paige@ RunningAroundNormal
January 2, 2010 at 8:00 amWhat an amazing day! That’s so awesome that you just took off to explore:) That pho restaurant looks good! I’ve never had Vietnamese food before. Looove Lululemon. What a cool building!

January 2, 2010 at 8:15 amHi! I’ve been following your fantastic blog for awhile now (this is my first comment). I just wanted to recommend Philz Coffee the next time you’re in S.F. I’m particularly fond of the store in the mission! They’ll hand craft a cup for you based on your likes and dislikes in coffee… the best cup I’v ever had! http://www.philzcoffee.com

January 2, 2010 at 8:26 amLove Pho! Need to learn to make that myself. Oh, and I think somebody else already mentioned this but you should always turn your tires when parking on a hill. It’s a safety issue. If your emergency brake fails you’ll roll into the curb instead of rolling down the hill & into other cars. Turn them toward the curb when facing downhill and toward the street when facing upill.
Lauren@ Reading and Running
January 2, 2010 at 8:26 amYum that pho looks delicious! I’m going to have to find a place in Dallas! San Fran looks beautiful!
Lisa
January 2, 2010 at 8:40 amYou must buy Lululemon….I have 6 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of Capris and 2 Hoodies (I tell myself that as a Canadian I’m supporting our own company ;). I wear it DAILY!
Don’t get the plain Yoga pant….when the fabric wears it becomes “bally”. They do have a great return policy though. DO IT!!!!! You’ll love it!

January 2, 2010 at 8:42 amBrothers was TOO emotional for me!!!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! BTW now I want pho! if I don’t get it…PHOgetaboutit!

January 2, 2010 at 8:47 amAwesome job on the parallel park . . . oh and btw – once you put your first lulu pants on, you will never wear another pant again, I don’t even wear jeans or pj’s anymore, just lululemon pants all the time
Cynthia (It All Changes)
January 2, 2010 at 9:02 amMan after seeing that Pho I wish we had a good place around here to get some. I might have to make a trip to Boston to get some. Good thing I’m going out there next week.

That Pho looks YUMMY!!!!

January 2, 2010 at 9:25 amLULU! Oh how I love LULU! And it cracks me up how the salespeople always want to hear my Bikram stories when I go there. There’s only a small section of Hot Yoga clothes so when they see you looking at them the inevitably ask “Bikram huh?” Happy New Year to you. May 2010 be your best year ever!

January 2, 2010 at 9:25 amPho (pronounced FA) for those who don’t know. IS THE BEST STUFF EVER! If I had my way I’d eat it EVERYDAY lol.

January 2, 2010 at 11:27 amI’m just going to reiterate how worth-it the lululemons are. yes, obscenely expensive, but I wear my pants more than any other item of clothing I own. And they last for ages!

January 2, 2010 at 12:00 pmI love Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. They have awesome tea lattes and iced teas. YUM!

January 2, 2010 at 1:02 pmWaffles look good! Do you eat just one?! Never tried Pho – hmmm, something else to try…can’t believe that you was your first Lulu trip – yeah the clothes are nice – but I actually find them toooo form-fitting sometimes – especially the band around the waist …I’d rather not “feel/focus” on my stomach areas when I’m walking or yoga please 😉
Kristen @ Change of Pace
January 2, 2010 at 1:05 pmYour pink boots are too cute! I’ve heard good and bad things about Brothers… Will definitely have to see it though 🙂

January 2, 2010 at 3:05 pmDo you have any recommendations for downloads/videos for someone just starting yoga? I am athletic, but not flexible in the least. Thanks for your help, Amy
Katerina
January 2, 2010 at 3:06 pmTake it from this Vancouver (where lulu started) girl. The pants are worth every penny. I have been wearing them for almost a decade now and they are amazing, I wear them all the time. In fact I am wearing them right now as I work at my desk on bloggie admin stuff.
Gracie
January 2, 2010 at 3:26 pmOkay, so I should see Brothers? I’ve been semi-wanting to but kind of worried that I would just leave feeling depressed :/ Natalie Portman is one of my favorites, though, so maybe I’ll have to check it out! You should see Sherlock Holmes for sure, VERY good film!

January 2, 2010 at 5:12 pmYour boots are too cute. LuLu is so stinking overpriced I just can’t bring myself to buy their stuff! It is nice though.

January 2, 2010 at 5:31 pmOoooh, you have GOT to get something from lululemon– you will NEVER be sorry! They’ll hem your pants to the perfect length, and they never look old no matter how many times you wear, wash, and dry them! Once you get them, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. 🙂 They’re def expensive, but I’m convinced it saves $$ in the long run on workout clothes.

January 2, 2010 at 5:33 pmLululemon is the BEST EVER. Wait for a sale, or go to their website and shop the “loot” section — good stuff!

January 2, 2010 at 6:56 pmWOOHOO on the parallel parking! 🙂 I love the Coffee Bean — don’t have ’em in New England but any time in LA..I have to make a trip. They had a fall special latte called pecan praline or something like that…that was amazzzing!
