Dinner

Pizza Night

It was a gorgeous afternoon here in Tampa! I spent it running errands with my mom, studying in a chair in my driveway (haha) and eating pizza with my family and Ryan! I just love days like this…

It was SO hot outside when I was out there so I had a strawberry all-fruit popsicle for a snack. Later on I also had a little hummus and a couple kashi crackers. For dinner we ordered pizza from my favorite place in town and I got a small (well, 12-inch) cheeseless pizza with portobella mushrooms, onions, black olives and tomato sauce. I sipped on a glass of red wine while waiting for pizza and when it got here I sprinkled some shredded Follow Your Heart Mozzarella Cheese on top (this is SO much better than my previous experience with this kind of non-dairy cheese) and broiled it for a few moments in the oven. The “cheese” didn’t exactly melt completely but it still tasted really good! I think I was just anxious to eat it so I didn’t let it broil for as long as I should have to achieve the melt. I was very very pleasantly surprised though at the outcome of the pizza. Delicious! The slices were small and I ate four of them! Pizza just doesn’t fill me up like it used to when it was cheese-laden. Now its more like a veggie flatbread and I don’t feel as bloated after eating four slices. Each slice was approximately six inches long.

Smaller slices and no cheese = jenna eats four!

I think Ryan and I are just going to rent a movie tonight. Enjoy your Sunday night!

    Hey Jenna,

have you ever tried making your own pizza? I wanted to make one but wanted suggestions on a pizza dough and sauce. Also, I don’t eat dairy and soy makes me sick so I was wondering if the cheese you used has soy in it? Thanks!

Nadia… I agree…does anyone have another recipe for a pizza dough?? I’ve tried Jenna’s Foccia bread recipe for the pizza dough but I’m looking for something that might have a bit more flavor and def with whole wheat flour! Would ww pastry flour work better b/c I felt that the reg ww flour made the dough more dense.

    THe pizza looks YUMMY!!

Oh, I wish I lived near a restaurant that offered cheeseless, whole wheat crust pizza!! I special order if I ever go to a restaurant, but it’s hard to find whole wheat crust!! I make my own sometimes with mini whole wheat pitas! (regular sized pitas are too big and I never finish it!!)

    Jenna–
I made your mashed cauliflower and it was the most DELICIOUS thing!! I put entirely too much garlic, but I love garlic so I wasn’t too upset about it. Thanks for the idea!!
Have you made the tomato and caper couscous recipe from veganomicon? if not, you MUST try it—i made it this weekend and apart from the fact that it LITERALLY takes 10 minutes to make, its completely fabulous.

Okay, so you’re out in the sunshine, in a bathing suit, eating popsicles… I’m in the rain, in a sweatshirt, eating warm foods… no fair!! Haha, just kidding, my friend. Glad to see that your weekend was filled with sunshine, delicious food, and great company. Enjoy!! :0)

I like how you “studied” in the driveway, but your book says “Baking” on the front. 🙂 Were you reading a cookbook? If so, that’s just my style…

That pizza looks amazing!! I am very jealous of the warm weather… Today in Minneapolis it was heatwave with 35 degrees! Send some of the sun & fun my way!

Jenna- How you stopped at three pieces is amazing. I would have ate the whole 12 inch! It looked delicious. Cheeseless pizza is my favorite and I’ve eaten it that way since I was a little kid. Never been a big cheese person.

Wow! I’m so so jealous of your weather. It was warm here, and then it snowed again… but it’s going to get warm. But I won’t be able to sit outside in shorts for another couple of months.

Mmm… pizza! I love how without the cheese you can eat double! So much more pleasure.

Wow, lovin your weather. All I see when I look outside is snow, snow and more snow. Can’t wait to have sun and green and warmth! And popsicles of course.

Your pizza looks SO good. Way tastier even than cheese-loaded pizza.

    Jenna,
This is not a food related question, but I am coming to Tampa in 3 1/2 weeks so my fiancee can be interviewed for a position at a church. We will be going to a casual lunch and dinner gathering on Saturday and then church on Sunday. I know what I would wear HERE for these occasions in April (nice brown pants and cute blouse for Sat. and probably some type of warm dress outfit for Sunday–it’s still cold here!) but I am curious what you would recommend I wear in Tampa. Every time I go to Florida, I bust out the sundresses and swimsuits, but I don’t want to stand out as a tourist if people who live there actually observe the seasons in their dress…so, yes, this is a weird question, but what would you wear? You seem to have cute style! 🙂 Thank you…

Oh, and I also order cheeseless pizza every time (lactose issues prompted it and then I realized it’s WAY better, especially if you get a handtossed whole wheat pizza crust…you can really soak up the good flavors of the crust, sauce, and veggies. Cheese just drowns it.)

You just had to put a sunny picture in, didnt you? Thats the cutest little dog I have ever seen! What kind is it? he looks like hes wearing a life jacket. And hates it.

So it didnt even occur to me that i could order regular pizza without cheese, so I did it last night from pizza hut, with a thin and crispy veggie lovers, and it was delicious. I didnt feel as heavy or sluggish either, because there was no grease. Thats the only way I will order it from now on!
