Lunch

Resting My Voice

Hello bloggies!

Bad news is my voice is still gone…..good news is that I didn’t need it today because Ryan and I went to go see Australia with my parents! I LOVED it!!!!!!!!! It was soooo good—-now that is my kind of movie! I just love long war epics like that. And it was perfect because I didn’t have to talk.  Before we left I snacked on a chobani with half a banana, sliced.

img_3797.JPG

And then we snuck pita pit into the movie since it was a three hour movie around lunchtime!

img_3798.JPG

I got the same thing I got on Friday—a whole wheat hummus pita with avocado, spinach, jalapinos, banana peppers, pickles, black olives, red onions, feta cheese and hot sauce. I couldn’t take a picture of it unwrapped since we were in the movie theater!

Later on, I went over to hang out with the parents for a bit and had a toasted Kashi waffle with almond butter and jam

img_3799.JPG

I have honestly not been extremely hungry all day because of my cold, but I’m trying to keep my eating as normal as possible so I can stay fueled when I don’t feel well. I’m also trying to drink as many liquids as possible! I had an orange (Essential) vitamin water while in the movie and have been gulping at water all day long.

And now…………I have an announcement to make!

So…..I didn’t want to spill any beans but yesterday I had a job interview at somewhere where I have wanted to work for a very long time (since I heard they were coming to Tampa). Well, I got offered a position yesterday and took a day to think about it and talk to Ryan and my family about it. And………...you are now looking at the newest scratch baker at Greenwise!! They just happened to have the position open for a baker that has had culinary school training and I fit the mold. I wanted this job last spring and actually applied for it then, but then the yacht club opportunity arose and I couldn’t say no because of the chance to work with Chef, who has been named executive chef of the year and so on and so on. But, despite all the cake decorating I do, my heart has always been with scratch bread baking. And when I say scratch baking I mean that every single loaf is made by hand with fresh yeast using old fashioned methods. Breads such as baguettes, dark ryes, sourdoughs, ciabatta…all the artisan loaves that I have come to love. It will definitely be a new and interesting experience. And here’s the kicker——my shift is from 2 am to 11 am every day! Gah! I’m going to have to completely flip flop my life and schedule but I’m sure my body will get used to it…eventually. I’m not quite sure yet on how I will work out the logistics like sleeping/working out/eating meals….but that will come. Hopefully?! 😉

Well, I just wanted to share my news with you. I’m pretty excited. I prayed and prayed for an answer on whether this was the right thing for my career right now and I think that it is. So…get ready for an interesting (nocturnal!) journey to come with me!

Even though I feel like crapola, Ryan and I are going to dinner to celebrate. Well actually we are just going to Greenwise to pick up pizza but still.

See you tonight!

Congrats Jenna! I used to work in a bakery and the bread bakers (who had very similar hours as yours) would go to bed as soon as they got home, sleep through the day while everyone else who has conventional hours is at work and school (quiet house!) wake up an eat dinner with their families and have some socializing time, then when everyone would go to sleep they would do the mundane tasks of life before going in to work! But, you really have to find what will work best for you! 24 hour gym perhaps?

Congrats on the job! It’s awesome that you will get to do one of your dream jobs! As for the 2-11 AM hours, I work similar hours in my job, and most of the time it is great. I get up at 1 A, go to work, and then after work have TONS of daylight hours to exercise, run errands (with minimal crowds), etc. The downside is that I crash between 7 – 8 PM most nights…so my husband and i have shifted many of our activities to earlier in the evening. But still, I love the sunshine!

Girl……. WAHOO!!! Double high fives and a little kick in the pants! hehee I just told my husband of all things, since I feel like I know you! hehee You prayed and worked so hard, you deserve this awesome opportunity. Enjoy every last crumb! 😉

Now… when shall the wedding be? Maybe you can have a morning wedding with brunch since you’ll be used to that schedule. 🙂

I am so happy for you. Feel better and your pita pit makes me jealous… we got NOTHIN’ fun like that to eat here in Indiana! 😉

Will you get to do yoga again? Oh fun!!! Maybe a noon class will work perfectly??

Congratulations Jenna! Don’t worry you’ll adjust. I do two days a week starting at 4 am volunteering in the local hospital bakeshop in prep for school and it wasn’t too hard to adapt. The flip flop from those days to my 8 am restaurant days kind of stinks though. Its awesome having the rest of the day when you get done that early!

It’s good that you’re eating well despite not having an appetite. Your body burns excess calories trying to heal itself, so you need to feed it.

Wow…that’s pretty exciting! You’ll figure out what to do foodwise. I know when I was on night shift in the ER, I usually ate something right before I went, then about 6-7 hours into my shift (1am) I’d eat “lunch.” I usually just had milk before going to sleep but would eat breakfast when I woke up (that afternoon!). 🙂 Congrats….sound like fun.
