Salmon Quinoa Burgers

How’s everybody doing today? We are in the midst of “spring break” (whatever that means to a preschooler) over here and somehow everyone but me is down with a cold. As I type this, I’m knocking on all the wood I can find. Despite all that, we have still been doing some fun spring break stuff this week — rides on the merry go round in the park, painting in the yard and picnics at the playground. I’m starting to plan a super casual backyard party for Grayson’s third birthday next month and seriously can’t even believe it. How in the world is he already turning three?! It doesn’t even seem possible.

Considering the life stage I’m in, where my days consist of wiping runny noses, playing at the park and rocking in the glider, I obviously am finding myself making more kid friendly food more than anything else. I don’t know what it is about salmon burgers, but my kids are really digging these. When I originally made them, I was really just going for something that used up the leftover quinoa in the fridge. These came together in SERIOUSLY ten minutes and two little boys totally gobbled them up, so I would say it was a total win.

It would be fun to make a mini version of these, but to be honest it didn’t even cross my mind. You know how it is at around 5pm when you have little kids at your feet — I was on a mission and on a mission fast. 😉 I did use some of my homemade burger buns, which I adore. They are seriously so simple and on a whole other burger bun level. I like to make big batches and keep them in the freezer because they defrost extremely quickly and perfect for impromptu salmon burger situations such as this!

I hope you guys (and your kids) enjoy these as much as we did! I feel like they are prettyyyyyyyy much the healthiest thing my kids have ever eaten, with all the wild salmon and quinoa super powers. Hey, there are tons of nights where we eat frozen chicken tenders or Annie’s mac & cheese, so this all makes it somewhat even in my opinion.

You can ask the guys at the seafood counter at your local store or do it yourself by processing frozen salmon fillets in a food processor. 🙂

Can I use wild canned salmon instead of ground? We don’t have that on the east coast.

      Hi!

You can grind your own salmon by buying wild salmon fillets, freezing them and then processing them (still frozen) in the food processor.

Salmon burgers are my son’s favorite too! I was wondering about canned salmon as well. Would that work?

Um I am so excited to make these. It would totally stretch my week night meal budget as well. How funny is it my that preschoolers favorite food has always been salmon? Except don’t you dare give him pizza….that’s what we get for being foodies 😉
    Loving your blog again!

Hey, I eat frozen chicken tenders and mac & cheese too. No shame in that.
These burgers look seriously yummy! I actually really like salmon burgers, which is ironic since I’m not such a big fan of just eating salmon. Definitely putting these on my to-try list. 🙂

Not sure if you will see this but these are soooo GOOD! I froze the salmon and placed into my food processor. 1. smaller pieces is key and 2. hold on to the processor! Mine wanted to rock right off the counter. The only thing I did differently is I added a healthy shake of Tony Chachere, I’m from New Orleans and it just added a little kick! I have made these twice and shared with friends. They demanded the recipe so I emailed the link to the recipe. Thank you so much!
