The Second Trimester: Third Time Around

Hey guys!

I only have two weeks left in my second trimester and like everyone says, it has FLOWN by. I mean, I thought my second pregnancy went by quickly…but wow! This third pregnancy is going at lightening fast speed. I think it’s because our lives have just been so busy lately with the boys. I spend my days either cooking or chasing after two toddlers and crash asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow at night. So many of you have asked for a recap on how I am feeling these days, though, so here you go!

I am definitely currently in that pregnancy “sweet spot” of feeling really good and pretty darn normal. Some days I even forget that I’m actually pregnant! Unlike my first two pregnancies, I have surprisingly not dealt with as much round ligament pain or pubic bone synthesis pain this time around. Maybe I am just carrying differently? Or maybe my body is just so used to being pregnant now. Haha. 😉 I can’t complain though! My midwives let me borrow a special belt called a Serola belt for pubic bone synthesis and when I actually remember to wear it (haha) it does really help.

I definitely am ready to get off my feet by the end of the day, but overall I am still sleeping pretty good and no real symptoms other than heartburn to report. Because this isn’t my first rodeo, I know sleep goes out the window around 30-ish weeks, so I am just enjoying this for all it’s worth right now.

Ladies, I bought this pregnancy pillow this time around and it has made a WORLD of difference. I highly recommend this pillow! I actually wasn’t sure if I liked it at first because it’s so big but it’s literally become my best friend over the past couple months. At this point in my life, I am not sure I could really sleep without it. 😉

I have really tried to get on an exercise schedule in my second trimester! Honestly, I don’t always make it to the gym when I have planned but my goal is to work out twice a week and it’s been really helping me stay feeling good. I sort of gave up trying to fit in a home workout during Luke’s afternoon nap, as that’s my only time of day to actually get work done right now, so instead I have made the commitment to just make good use out of my YMCA membership a few mornings a week. I actually do a streaming prenatal workout on my phone when I’m there! It’s only 25 minutes and totally doable. I’m doing the same Beachbody prenatal workouts that I did when I was pregnant with Luke.

Originally, I carried some guilt for not being able to stay MORE active this pregnancy. I kept comparing this time to last time (when I had much more extra time to exercise!) and I know how much staying in shape helps in labor and postpartum. However, I sort of had to just let those expectations go because my main job right now is being a mama to two very active little boys and that is a workout in and of itself! I just do what I can, when I can, and that is okay.

The boys are getting really excited to meet their new little brother in a couple months! We are actually planning on moving Luke to Grayson’s room this weekend for his birthday! We put Grayson’s old crib in there and will have Luke sleep in that until he is ready to move to the bottom bunk. The other crib that Luke is currently in will stay in the nursery for the baby when he is ready. Yes, we have two cribs! It seems sort of necessary at this point and for what it’s worth, I much prefer my IKEA crib to the Pottery Barn one that I used with Grayson. I only own one crib mattress, however, so Luke will use it until the baby is ready for it.

Other than that, not much to report! I am trying to work as much as I can right now on various projects before I slow down this fall. Something happened to me last week and all I wanted to do was start nesting immediately. 😉 It’s crazy how that happens, right?! All of a sudden, all I wanted was to go and inhale newborn baby clothes…and shop! We don’t really need much for this little one, but there are a few things on my list to get. I’m excited to get Luke moved into Grayson’s room so I have room to organize what I have so far and see what I need.

I am definitely in a stage of delighting in my kids! Grayson has finally moved out of this, um, rather difficult three year old stage and is maturing into the coolest, funniest guy. And Luke turns two on Sunday! They are both just so much fun right now and we have been just having some really great weekends together lately. I want to do all I can with the boys now before all of the newborn naps/feedings happen this fall! I am one of those annoying people that actually LOVE being pregnant (after the first trimester!) so I am really just soaking all this up right now before the next season of life comes.
