Hello everyone 🙂
I’m starting to feel a little better after resting all day and being at home. I still feel all icky and flu-ish but I definitely feel better than I did early this morning. I’m just praying that I can sleep the majority of it off and feel good enough tomorrow to go to the wedding with Ryan.
For dinner tonight I had an egg and cheese sandwich on a whole grain english muffin. I used one egg + one egg white and a slice of reduced fat provolone.
For some reason whenever I’m sick I crave eggs. Scrambled, fried or poached….I just love ’em. I think its because whenever I was sick when I was little my mom would make me poached eggs on toast. Tonight I didn’t have the energy to poach eggs so this was second best.
I wish I could have enjoyed the delicious dinner my mom made—chicken with kalamata olives in an apricot sauce over jasmine rice. I had a small bite—
It was delicious but I couldn’t handle a heavy meal tonight. My egg sandwich was perfect.
After I ate I helped my parents decorate the tree. Too bad I don’t feel well because this is my favorite thing to do around this time of year. I just love blasting Christmas music, making cookies and decorating the tree. My family has always made a big deal out of it so its just tradition I guess.
I did hang the first ornament though!
And I found these super cool glasses in the Christmas box
Mikan liked them too
And then my dad and I went out for frozen yogurt because I was having a major craving. I got yellow cake batter with oreos
We went to this place called D’Lites here in Tampa…..I went there a lot last year but haven’t been in a long long time. They claim that the small size of froyo is only 50 calories and the medium (which I got) is only 100. They have all the nutritional info on the wall but I still don’t know how it could possibly be so low in calories. Its a mystery….. but does taste good once in awhile and tonight was one of those nights. And I like thinking I just ate all this ice cream with oreos for less than 200 calories.
I’m going to be hitting the sack soon. Hopefully I will feel better in the morning!!

December 5, 2008 at 8:50 pmThat oreo and yogurt mix takes me back to my DQ Blizzard days, and unfortunately, nothing at Dairy Queen is under 200 calories! Your mom’s dinner sounds divine! I hope you make it to the wedding.

December 5, 2008 at 9:59 pmHmm, D’lites in Tampa looks like Tasti D-lite here in NYC. I think a big reason behind the absurdly-low calorie counts is the amount of air they pump into each cup.

December 5, 2008 at 10:01 pmI’m so sorry you aren’t feeling well!! Eggs are such a complete protein, maybe your body crave all those amino acids!
I decorated the tree today with my mom, definitely a spirit-lifting activity. Hope you get some good rest tonight!

December 5, 2008 at 10:21 pmHope you’re all better by tomorrow! 🙂
My mom made us “sick eggs” as kids. It was basically a soft boiled egg and toast, but she’d tear the toast up and serve it all in a bowl. I always want it when I’m sick now!

December 6, 2008 at 5:54 amJust found your blog and am very glad I did. We have a lot in common. Aside from the fact that poached eggs on toast (gluten-free in my case) are my comfort food of choice as well! Love your doggie picture. Very cute.
Hope you feel better.

December 6, 2008 at 7:06 amJenna, my husband and I go there at least once a week since we can walk from our house. We always look at the flavors online at the beginning of the week and plan our night to go…or let’s be honest, NIGHTS! I agree that the calorie info seems questionable (perhaps along with the ingredients?? haha) so one night I took it home and weighed it on my Salter scale. The nutritional info they used to have on their wall/website was based on weight of the product, and the serving weight was a lot more than the size of cup, if that makes any sense–i.e. they say it was a 5 oz cup size and that they fill it with about 6 oz, but the weight of the portion in my bowl was like 10 oz even after taring the scale for my bowl. This “over filling” of the product was present with my next bowl or two and then I gave up on my experiment. Now I’ve noticed that they’ve changed their caloric values now to represent “volume of of liquid base mix dispensed.” Whatever. It’s good. I am usually a stickler for quality ingredients and knowing all of them, but in this case, whatevs—I love me some Dlites!! Their pumpkin cheesecake flavor is my fav. Now you have to try Berryism on Dale Mabry–it’s our other weekly treat.
I hope you’re feeling better. By the way, my go-to sick food is toast with soft boiled eggs too (known as mom’s special,) and I always want my mom when I’m sick. I think it shows you have a great mom.
