Speed Reader

Well, I already finished The Rogue! Can you believe it? I got so into it while on the treadmill this morning that before I knew it the book was over. I’ve always been an incredibly fast reader—I wasn’t an English major for nothing! 🙂 The book was good…had the “I-just-can’t-put-this-down” effect but I wasn’t very fond of the ending. But….that’ where I think Danielle Steel sort of fails. The endings just seem to neatly tie everything up fast and come too easy and too predictably. You guys need to read it and let me know what y’all think!

I did 40 minutes on the treadmill this morning along with some abs on the ball. I ran for about 25 minutes then walked for the other 15 minutes on a steep incline (finishing my book!). It was a pretty good workout and got me nice and sweaty. I refueled with a summer salad for lunch!

I used the leftovers of last night’s salmon (I didn’t weigh this but I’m just guessing I had 4 ounces of salmon left) and put it atop a salad of romaine lettuce, chopped bell pepper and a couple random leftover roasted new potatoes that I found in the fridge here. I drizzled it all with a little of Annie’s Balsamic Vin. and had a serving of kashi crackers on the side and an ice cold pom-lemonade! I mixed a small amount of blueberry pom juice into a glass of icy lemonade and it tasted ridiculously yummy. I don’t usually drink sugary things like soda or lemonade on a daily basis but for a once and a while treat, you can’t beat it!

I got a new memory card for my camera and it claims to hold 16 minutes of video time. That’s perfect because after 16 minutes you all would be quite bored with me, I’m sure! I really enjoyed doing it yesterday and I’m already hoping to do another (maybe on nougatine?) next weekend. It also would be fun to start doing “virtual tours” of my fridge so you guys can visualize more of my food. First I must clean the fridge though! I’m very open to video suggestions so if there is something y’all want to see, voice it and I will try to make it happen! It adds such a fun (and cheesy) element to the blog I think!

I also got a new book at the store! The cover was ripped but it was the only copy and after reading the inner flap I knew it was a must-have. It’s basically one woman’s culinary memoir from her childhood being abandoned in Korea, moving to New Orleans and then to France. It looks amazing and actually as soon as I finish this post I’m going to make some iced tea and dive right into it!

I get to pick up Ryan tonight from the airport and we are going out to pizza!!!! We have been talking about it all week and even though I’m not sure if he feels the hottest today (last I heard they were getting the priest to do jager bombs at the bar………), he’s all ready for pizza!

Have fun tonight. I’d love to see a virtual tour of your fridge or pantry/kitchen! That would be really neat. I loved your last video too. I was just wondering if you use a heart rate monitor? I see some that are watches and some that are strapped around your chest. I was wondering if you have one or what you think about using them for weight loss?

I adore absorbing reads like that! I’ll have to check it out. I’ve never read any Danielle Steele either, I always thought she was the type with Fabio on her covers or whatever, hahaha.

Your marshmallow video was really good – I’d love to see more! 🙂

    Have a great time tonight!!

For your video post, did you use your normal digital camera or a video camera? What kind do you use? I would like to post some exercises on my blog but I don’t think my camera is going to cut it.

I was also an English major. Currently reading The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood and I highly recommend it or any other book by her.

I think I’m going for pizza tonight too and I can’t wait!

If I can make a recommendation, I would like to suggest Guests of the Sheik. It’s about a young America woman living in 1950s rural Iraq. My ex-girlfriend gave into my last summer, and it’s a great summer read. I reread it again, actually, recently as I was attempting one of your recipes. Now that I’m a living alone again, I never realized all the work that goes into cooking, even as working as a waiter to get through college! Your blog’s really great, though I don’t think it would make me Cordon Bleu material…ever.

By the way, I’m attempting your South Asian stir-fry for friends, and was wondering if there’s another grain I can substitute for quiona?

    Michael,

That dish would also be very nice served over jasmine or brown rice I think….although personally I think the quinoa is amazing in it so if you can find that, make that variation! That is one of my favorite meals…it will not disappoint!

    Guest,

The glass containers came with my lunchbox (from pottery barn) but the other tupperware is just random tupperware I’ve picked up over the years from places like Target and walmart. I have a growing collection!
