My day just got busier as I remembered I have a paper due tonight on the history and making of sugar! Bleh! I raced home this morning, ate a super quick lunch, then raced over to the store to pick up some necessities. For lunch I had the only thing in my kitchen: an Amy’s California veggie burger on an ezekiel english muffin with a slice of reduced fat cheddar, ketchup and dijon, and a random sugar-free organic peach fruit cup that I bought waaay too long ago.
It was actually pretty satisfying, despite me rushing while eating (meh). I’ll have to have lots of veggies later to make up for my lack of them this weekend and today so far!
I went to the grocery store with a good plan in mind and am pretty proud of myself for sticking to it. I went the Super Target next to my apartment to get my produce and Whole Foods to get other stuff with my $25 gift card. Well, I spent 20 bucks on produce at Target and I got a TON of fruits and veggies, and I only spend $19 at Whole Foods where I stocked up on Chobani (they got it back!!), organic turkey lunch meat and energy bars. I’d say it was a successful money saving trip!
I have GOT to get this paper done asap!!!!

September 2, 2008 at 6:43 pmGreat job saving $$. It is definitely less convenient not to do all your shopping at the same store so kudos to you for making the effort. Good luck with the paper!

September 2, 2008 at 6:52 pmHey all– Did we ever come to a consensus the other day about heart rate monitors? I am looking to get one, but looking to stay on the cheaper side of $150. Suggestions? Recommendations?

September 2, 2008 at 7:44 pmHey Jenna! Grocery Shop looks FAB! I finally FOUND Chobani here (in Philly area), but they don’t carry plain 0! Grrrr 🙁
Anyways, I was just wondering, as someone who only consumes the egg whites, but buys the carton (FOR $ saving!), do you just throw away your yokes? Just curious… I hate wasting food and find that every time I send them down the drain, I feel so wasteful!

September 2, 2008 at 7:49 pmJulz,
I do eat egg yolks on occasion as well so I really never feel guilty buying the carton of eggs and using the majority of the whites. When I don’t eat the yolks I do just throw them away, which I guess is wasteful, yes…but I don’t want to buy a carton of liquid whites because then I would have no yolks for when I want them and it costs a dollar more. So….I do realize it is wasteful but it is cheaper and right now, I take the cheaper option since I’m broke!

September 2, 2008 at 8:05 pmSounds like a fun paper! I almost liked having a time crunch to write papers… it helped me focus!
Your shopping trip looks great.. especially all the produce 😀 I need to go shop for the same now…
Sarah (now in FL) - I need a new name, this is ridiculous
September 2, 2008 at 8:14 pmJenna, your day yesterday looked so fun! My husband and I also went to the beach at St. Pete for Labor Day…sadly, we are both BADLY sunburnt! Note to self, don’t try “natural” sunscreen product again…
This may be a question for Ryan (if he reads the comments?) but I was wondering what your basic mojito recipe is. I’ve tried making them myself, but they never turn out as well as the ones I get for like 10 bucks. I also tried one at a friend’s bachelorette party that was a watermelon mojito and I am determined to someday reproduce this, but internet recipe searches have not helped too much. Does anyone have any ideas?

September 2, 2008 at 8:18 pmSarah,
Here’s the recipe…which really isn’t a “recipe” per say but more of a “throw this in, add a bit of that” type deal:
muddle about 2 tsp sugar (or 1 big spoonful) with juice of one lime in a tall glass. Add mint and muddle more. Add 2 shots light rum and fill the rest up with club soda…add ice!
let me know what you think!

September 3, 2008 at 3:22 amI know it’s no fun to remember you have homework due at the last minute, but that sounds like an interesting paper. I’m a total food geek so I love stuff like that. Hope it turned out well.
