<p><b>I finally got my act together this morning and went out for an early 8.2 mile run.</b> Technically, if I was sticking to my training plan, I should have done 11 miles but since I don&#8217;t know this area at all and have to be on my feet all day long working, I just decided to do 8 instead. Call me slacker. <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  I&#8217;m totally going to get rocked by this half marathon. However, I must admit how absolutely AMAZING it is to run in nice cool, crisp weather with no humidity. I ran back and forth down this trail behind the guy&#8217;s house and it was soooo gorgeous. I looove it all!</p>
<p>Before I left I had a <b>Nature&#8217;s Path Optimum energy bar</b> and then when I got back I had <b>oatmeal with greek yogurt, apple, honey, cinnamon and almond butter.</b> Unfortunately there was a little mix up in the memory cards though and the pictures were lost. Don&#8217;t hate me, please! I think you all have seen enough oatmeal pictures though to last you the rest of your life, no?</p>
<p>I did enjoy a lovely cup of coffee in my new mug!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">I saw this mug last night at <a href="http://www.bovolorestaurant.com/">Bovolo</a> and knew it had to be mine. I love the color!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>So today I am pouring wine all day at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair</b>. Tons and tons of wineries will have booths there and people just walk around and try different wine and food. It seems like something I would want to GO to, so hopefully working it will be fun as well.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Trying to pack and prepare for my trip to NYC tomorrow as well&#8230;.I can&#8217;t believe I&#8217;m getting ready to fly BACK across the country again. This is insane.</p>

<p>I feel about 500 times better this morning&#8230;..thanks to a solid 8+ hours of sleep (with tylonel pm, ear plugs and eye mask), an early morning run, a jenna-breakfast and amazing grass, I think I&#8217;m almost back to my old self. I&#8217;m currently sitting at a little French bakery in downtown Healdsburg, drinking a cafe au lait and James Taylor &#8220;going to Carolina&#8221; is playing and I almost choked up&#8230;.but besides that, things are going well.</p>
<p>This morning I set my alarm for 6:15 and for the first time, I actually felt like it WAS 6:15 and not 9:15. <b>I ate a banana, laced up my running shoes and ran a COLD couple miles.</b> I found a little park and track near the boy&#8217;s house and blasted my music&#8230;..it was wonderful to get back out there, break a sweat and clear my mind. Since I&#8217;m out here all on my own and don&#8217;t even have the comfort of my old car, <b>my music</b> is the one thing that makes me feel close to home. <b>I couldn&#8217;t believe it was 44 degrees outside</b>&#8230;.I&#8217;m used to running when it&#8217;s 84 and humid. This is so weird!</p>
<p>When I got back, I made a comforting jenna breakfast of <b>oatmeal with almond butter, banana and honeycrisp apple chunks:</b></p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Wooooowwweeeeee!!!! It actually was a really, really good run and I just tried to soak it all up since I knew it would be LAST! I used the <b>Galloway method</b> the whole time (per advice of the athletic trainer I saw last week) and did a 5:1 run walk ratio, finishing in <b>1:44.</b> My shins actually didn&#8217;t bother me at all and I focused the whole time on alignment. <b>Before I left, I ate a peanut butter sandwich and while I ran, I drank gatorade and then around mile 6, and then 8, I ate Annie&#8217;s fruit snacks!</b> The sugar really did make a difference in my performance and I was able to keep up a steady pace and make it without hitting the wall or anything.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">When I got home I ate the only thing I could find&#8230;..fast!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><!-- Start Shareaholic LikeButtonSetTop Automatic --><!-- End Shareaholic LikeButtonSetTop Automatic --><p><b>Today I ran 9 miles.</b> I&#8217;m going to say it went as well as running 9 miles at 5:45 in the morning can go. I think I figured out the tactic that works for me the best, and aside from the first five minutes, I had really no discomfort. Basically, I run my heart out as far as I can go and then I just run the rest of the way doing the ever efficient Galloway method, running for three minutes and walking for one. It works for me! Oh, and keep it slow. Real slow.</p>
<p>What you all don&#8217;t know is that on Thursday night I was up at 12:45 crying and writing Team in Training a long letter as to why I had to quit. My shins hurt, I said. <b>I just can&#8217;t do it. I&#8217;m not a &#8220;real runner&#8221;.</b></p>
<p>My gut told me to wait until Monday to send that letter so I saved it in my drafts section of my gmail and went to bed with a heavy heart.</p>
<p>And then this morning the sermon at church totally spoke to me. Brian, our pastor, was telling us how his fourteen year old daughter just ran in her first cross country meet yesterday. There were 60 runners and she was second to last. Her one friend on the team was dead last and so far back and lost that everyone thought she dropped out. Well, Brian&#8217;s daughter actually made the decision to TURN AROUND and run the opposite direction close to the finish line just so she could find her friend and run by her side&#8230;so she wouldn&#8217;t be the last. She didn&#8217;t care about time or pace; she put someone else before herself. And she&#8217;s only fourteen. Amazing.</p>
<p><b>This whole time, I&#8217;ve been trying to make this race all about ME.</b> I&#8217;ve been so concerned with walking less, running more and running fast while at it. I felt like in order to hold my head high in the blogworld, I had to finish the race in under two hours and run the entire time.</p>
<p>Now I can see just how ridiculously stupid that is. The truth of the matter is that this race isn&#8217;t about Jenna at all. Not in the least bit. This race is for all those cancer patients who will benefit from the research that raising close to $9,000 will bring in. What does it matter what my &#8220;split&#8221; times are, how fast I go, or how much I walk? What does it even matter if I walk the whole dang thing?! I&#8217;ve twisted this race around to be a selfish matter when it most clearly should not be. It&#8217;s really easy to get caught up in reading these food and exercise blogs&#8212;-thinking that if you aren&#8217;t running 30 miles a week you <i>must</i> not be a runner&#8230;it&#8217;s ingrained in us to be the BEST at everything and to judge ourselves based on someone else. But, at the end of the day, <b>who cares</b>? Seriously. <b>I challenge each one of you to stop comparing yourself to others, stop aiming for perfection, and just accept what you are and where you are today and help someone else.</b> It&#8217;s not all about PRs and calories; it&#8217;s about real life and real people.</p>
<p>Okay, rant over. Moral of the story: I&#8217;m not quitting and even though it might take me five hours to finish this thing, I&#8217;m doing it for those who can&#8217;t even walk and would kill to be in my shoes.</p>
<p>Hopefully I didn&#8217;t come off as too harsh. God gave me a <i>very</i> passionate, feisty and stubborn heart and I&#8217;m using it the best way I know how. <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Drank watered down gatorade the whole way and it worked well. I love that stuff! When I got home I made a big shake with <b>1 scoop Vega, 1 scoop Amazing Grass SuperFood, 1 frozen banana, frozen peaches, 1 cup soymilk and 1 scoop peanut butter.</b></p>

I really don&#8217;t like this Vega stuff and am thankful that my refill for Amazing Meal is on route to me right now! I feel like Vega has a weird sweet taste. Maybe it&#8217;s just me.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The shake actually filled me up for quite some time but when I got home around 1:00, I was literally shaking again from hunger. Dangit, running 9 miles makes me HANGRY! <b>I made the quickest and most filling meal I knew:</b></p>

<p>How&#8217;s your Monday going? Mine is flying by and I still need to get a bunch of stuff done before my shift at the yoga studio this afternoon (I work 4-8).</p>
<p>Most importantly, I set a new PR this morning!!!! woot woot <strong>2 miles in 16 minutes flat</strong>. I never pace an 8 minute mile anymore but speedwork is important and I want to keep getting stronger and stronger. I was totally pushing myself though this morning and listened to a new playlist just called &#8220;speed&#8221; haha (I just figured out how to do screenshots and currently obsessed)</p>

<div style="text-align: left;"><strong>Currently icing shin AGAIN and contemplating buying new running shoes.</strong> I&#8217;ve been running in the ones I have now since March 1st and LOVE them. I would never buy any other shoes other than Pearl Izumis but I&#8217;m just worried that even though I have orthotics in my shoes now, running in &#8220;older&#8221; shoes might be contributing to the re-occuring shin pain in my left leg. Thoughts?</div>

<p>A<b>nyways, had a great day today with a mix of work and fun</b>. Got some writing done, went to the jcrew outlet (muhaha) and then ran 8 miles! More on that in a bit. First, lunch!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><b>When I got home, the clouds were out and I made the executive decision to just run the 8 miles today rather than waiting and waking up at 5:30 tomorrow morning.</b> I really prefer to save Sundays for total rest and knew I would feel better once it was out of the way.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><b>The run was&#8230;&#8230;.hard.</b> I&#8217;ve never done a long run in the middle of the day and have gotten so used to fueling the same way every morning so this was weird. Luckily, the balance bar did not upset my stomach or anything, <b>but just running at a different time sort of threw me off</b>. I averaged a 9:30 mile for the first 4 miles and then slowed down a bit to 10:00 for the return. On mile 6 it started to POUR but this time I welcomed it!!! People say if you can run 7, you can obviously run 8 but I&#8217;m here to tell you that there is DEFINITELY a difference between running 7 and 8. <b>That last mile felt soooooo long and I stopped to walk a few times&#8230;.my legs were feeling like lead.</b> Finally, I started giving myself a pep talk (literally, talking out loud&#8230;I&#8217;m crazy) and I made it. Woohooooooooooo!!!!!!</p>

I got it at Target for like $10 and I WILL be wearing it at my race next month! <p style="text-align: left;"><b>My thoughts?</b> Meh. Sorry y&#8217;all but I&#8217;ll always give you my personal honest opinion and <b>I just wasn&#8217;t a big fan of this.</b> I don&#8217;t know if it was the Vega or my combination, but this was waaaay too sweet and had a weird aftertaste. <b>I <i>much</i> prefer chocolate Amazing Meal and luckily I have some coming my way this week&#8230;.I&#8217;ve been out for too long!</b></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Regardless, I drank it down while soaking in an epsom salt bath Classy, I know.</p>

I actually am a natural blonde but this was right when &#8220;A Walk To Remember&#8221; was coming out and I coveted Mandy Moore&#8217;s hair. <b>So, dark chestnut brown it was&#8230;and super, super loooong.</b> And I used to spiral it by wrapping pieces of it around a curling iron every day. <b>I</b> loved it. I miss it&#8230;sometimes&#8230;.hehe</p>

I only ran 2.5 miles because my shin is sore and it literally was a sauna outside&#8230;I should have waited until later but I was itching at my desk and left around 4:00. Took some <b>coconut water</b> for the road&#8212;</p>

You gotta do what&#8217;s right for you! And warm coconut water is just ick.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">I gulped down glass after glass after glass of water&#8230;..still feel a little parched from my run. <b>I was pretty full after I ate but finished it off with 2 pieces of my dark chocolate&#8230;and more water.</b> <i>Note to self: next time wake up when the alarm goes off for a cooler run. <p>So&#8230;&#8230;hills are HARD! <strong>But I loved it!</strong> Unfortunately my left shin does NOT love it, but nothing a little ice and ibprofin can&#8217;t solve. I did <a href="http://chandrasshenanigans.com/exercise/cardio/incline-intervals/">Chandra/Melissa&#8217;s incline interval routine</a> this morning on our home treadmill and I was shocked at how tough it was. I basically followed their directions and it went something like this:</p>
<p><em>5 minutes warm up walking</em></p>
<p><em>7 minutes steady pace</em></p>
<p><em>1 minute 2% incline</em></p>
<p><em>1 minute 5% incline</em></p>
<p><em>2 minutes 8% incline</em></p>
<p><em>5 minutes steady pac</em>e</p>
<p>**Repeat as many times as you want.</p>
<p>This didn&#8217;t SEEM to be very intense but I guess because I&#8217;m totally not used to running with any sort of elevation it was hard for me. <strong>I really really liked it though because I felt like I was working really hard and it made the treadmill a lot less boring.</strong> Even when this race is over and done with (phew!) I think I&#8217;ll still do this routine once a week because I feel like I got a kick butt workout in. <strong>I repeated the intervals 3x and went about 3 miles, including warm up and cool down.</strong> + 90 crunches on the stability ball. I&#8217;m only going to do this little sequence once a week because it does bother my shins but I&#8217;ve already iced twice today and I&#8217;m not too worried about it.</p>
<p><strong>After I ran, I ate a kiwi but forgot to take a picture!</strong> Then, I made lunch about an hour later.</p>

I LOVE these new <strong>marinated tempeh strips</strong>. <strong>I heated up 5 of them (one serving) and stuffed them into an Ezekiel tortilla with some hummus and hot sauce.</strong> + another kiwi! <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">So&#8230;.as it appears on the blog, I do maintain a very clean diet. However, for the next month I&#8217;m going to step it up a notch. This does not mean I&#8217;m on a &#8220;diet&#8221; because I <strong>don&#8217;t</strong> want to lose any weight; <strong>I just want to crank up my nutrition for the rest of my half marathon training since it plays such a crucial role in both training and recovery</strong>. Over the past month I&#8217;ve consumed my fair share of WINE (muhaha), chocolate, white pasta and sweets. <strong>Because I&#8217;ve been eating so much of these things I feel like my sweet tooth has gotten a bit out of control.</strong> Truthfully, I do drink wine most nights with dinner but lately instead of a small or normal sized glass (which there&#8217;s nothing wrong with!!) it&#8217;s been more like a glass and a half. Every night. And I&#8217;ve been getting in the habit of having more chocolate than what you see on the blog&#8230;.we&#8217;ll leave it at that. <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  <em>And</em> I feel like I haven&#8217;t really eaten too many veggies either.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>For the next month I&#8217;m going to focus on (and you can do this with me!):</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><em>more water</em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">And I repeat: THIS IS NOT A DIET. I AM NOT TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT. I feel like everything I say on the blog can possibly be twisted around but the main point is I&#8217;m just going to try to eat as <strong>healthy and clean</strong> as possible and I know this &#8220;plan&#8221; works for me.</p>

<p>Long time no talk but I didn&#8217;t get home last night until late and I promptly passed out! Here&#8217;s a little recap of the past day!</p>
<p>Yesterday I went to my office, aka Starbucks, and enjoyed another lovely <strong>nonfat pumpkin spice latte</strong> while writing <a href="http://trueslant.com/jennaweber/2009/09/04/be-prepared/">a True/Slant article on ways to prevent the flu</a>!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">For some reason I always am more productive when I work there instead of at my house. I feel like I&#8217;m back in college again!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Once home, I dug into a kiwi like it was an apple!</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Yes, I do eat the skin of kiwi and I like it!</strong> Very fibrous and chewy. <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  Plus, it saves time peeling and slicing.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">And then around 6:15, Stacey picked me up for the <a href="http://www.createdwomen.com/">Created </a>bible study. <strong>Guys, I didn&#8217;t take pictures of dinner because it seemed like whipping out my camera at such a time was just not appropriate.</strong> I hope you can understand! I enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal of <strong>homemade chicken tortilla soup with cheddar cheese and those yummy scoops tortilla chips!</strong> One of the women also made <strong>strawberry shortcake</strong> for dessert and it was just wonderful!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>The actual study was very&#8230;&#8230;.powerful and REAL.</strong> I had a really, really powerful and emotional night and know it was absolutely the right decision that I was there and I plan to go back. <a href="http://www.createdwomen.com/"><strong>Created</strong></a> is a ministry designated to helping these women off the streets, women with addictions, women just getting out of jail, get back on their feet and function again in society, knowing that their true beauty has been &#8220;created&#8221; in Christ. When they live in the Created house, they have to have been clean for 30 days and want to accept Christ into their hearts to start their lives over. Last night I had the privilege of hanging out with these amazingly strong women and let&#8217;s just say it puts a lot of things in perspective. After dinner we studied a passage in <strong>Phillipians</strong> and talked about different connections we have with people and how this relates back to God. Being in a room with such strong women filled with <strong>love</strong> is just an empowering experience and totally brought me to my knees.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Afterwards, Stacey and I went out for a glass of wine to chat more. I had a lovely glass of <strong>California pinot noir</strong>&#8230;my fave! <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">And then this morning&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..da da da DA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">To start: I really did NOT want to run this morning. I didn&#8217;t fall asleep until around midnight and when the alarm went off at 5:30 I reallyyyyy wanted to turn it off and roll back over. So I did. For 30 minutes. <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  <strong>I finally arose at 6:00, had a slice of Ezekiel bread with almond butter, preserves and half a banana, and got to taping up my feet.</strong> I just want to say that my blisters really have healed! As we all know, blisters mean we have to toughen up and callous our skin so the rubbing of shoes doesn&#8217;t affect us anymore. The blisters on my heels were really okay&#8230;.the one on my sole of my foot sort of hurt but it really wasn&#8217;t <em>that</em> big of a deal. The doctor gave me this AWESOME product last week and it totally saved my life!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>I wish I could tell you where to buy these reusable gelly pads but I think you can only get them from a doctor.</strong> They are amazing! I had to cut them and cover them with moleskin and medical tape (so they wouldn&#8217;t shift around), but they really did save my life. <strong>I only had to stop once and do a little emergency band-aid surgery at my half-way point and apply another blister pad to the sole of my foot.</strong> Note to self: always take band-aids with you on long runs!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I think I finished in pretty good time considering I did stop and sit down on the side of the road at one point to fix my blister pads. I also walked a few times. My shins started aching near the end and when I got home I immediately stretched and iced like it was my job. <strong>I actually got really hungry around mile 6 and wished I would have brought a shot block or something but I just sipped my gatorade and pressed onward.</strong> Next time!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">I&#8217;m still a little behind in my training because I had to take the past two weeks off really due to blisters but I think I&#8217;m going to be okay. This coming up week I&#8217;m going to do HILLS and then have an 8 mile run planned for next Saturday. <strong>I can&#8217;t believe my race is next month!!!!!</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>On the agenda today is college football with my dad!!!!</strong> My two favorite teams are playing&#8212;Ohio State and BAMA!!!! I love Saturdays in the fall for this specific reason. Nothing better than relaxing on the couch in jeans and a t-shirt and watching college football. Okay&#8230;so I&#8217;m secretly a guy&#8230;.except instead of nachos and dips, I prefer raw almonds and green smoothies. <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>Its been a rainy day in Tampa and the sort of day you just want to wear your freshman year sweatpants and watch chick flicks. I actually did <b>not</b> do that but it does sound nice! <img src='http://www.eatliverun.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' />  Truth be told, I&#8217;ve had a busy day! This morning I learned the ropes at the yoga studio&#8230;I think I&#8217;m really going to like my little &#8220;job&#8221;. Free yoga is the best kind of yoga in my book! I worked a couple hours today, checking students in and picking up around the studio. I was feeling snacky so I had this bar from my purse!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">For some reason I only got the blueberry fruitition bars from the Healthy Living Summit last month! I love these and will be very interested to see how the other flavors match up!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">When I got home I made lunch&#8212;<b>a sunshine burger with a light laughing cow cheese on Ezekiel bread with more HUGE grapes!!</b></p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Other activities included my mom&#8217;s first trip to Costco, which was fun. I stocked up on produce and got a ton of delicious pears and the cutest little mini brie cheeses! I could wander for hours in the place&#8230;I swear&#8230;.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>And then&#8230;..I ran!</b> I know&#8230;..I know&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.BUT, I got these new heel cushions and band-aid brand blister pads (no more moleskin!!) and I wanted to try them out. Well, I was fine for the first 2 miles and then I sort of had a difficult time. The good news is that my left foot, which has been giving me the most blister problems, actually felt okay. My right foot was another story. All in all, I got a <b>2.8 mile</b> run in the rain and was thankful for that at least. I see my doctor again tomorrow and maybe he can help me a little more with the blister issue&#8230;.bahhh</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">This is seriously my favorite fast dinner. <b>The whole thing took me under 15 minutes to make and was healthy, tasty and filling!</b> Just remember: feta makes it BETTA! (I&#8217;m a huge dork)</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">However, my sweet tooth was on fire tonight&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<b>.I needed a cookie asap!</b></p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Holy moly&#8230;&#8230;.<b>these are vegan oatmeal cookies with 72% dark chocolate chips (from Eat, Drink and Be Vegan) and they totally rocked my socks off.</b> I rationalized my cookie baking spree by telling myself I would have one (or two) then bring the rest to bible study tomorrow night but&#8230;.they are just so good! I probably ate two if you count all the dough I consumed while baking. These were chewy and perfect. Craving satisfied!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><b>Let&#8217;s all keep</b> <a href="http://nhershoes.blogspot.com"><b>Bobbi</b></a> <b>and her husband in our prayers tonight as they are right in the line of fire (no pun intended!) in Southern California.</b> I just was watching the news and it looks so scary over there.</p>
